Electropolarity treatment (0.8 V/DC/Cm) was given to the gastrocnemius muscle of Bufo melanostictus every day for 5 min. for 5 days, and kinetic study of succinate dehydrogenase (SDH) in muscle and liver was conducted with different effectors - sodium malonate, ethylene diamine tetra acetic acid (EDTA), calcium chloride (CACl2) and sodium citrate.

Effects in vitro of benthiocarb on rat brain Mg2+-ATPase were studied to elucidate the interaction of benthiocarb with Mg2+-ATPase. Based on IC50 values, it was evident that Mg2+-ATPase was sensitive to benthiocarb. Non-competitive inhibition with respect to activation by ATP was indicated by decreased maximal velocity (V) without change in Michaelis Menten constant (Km).

Scorpion (Buthus tamulus) venom was subjected to neutralization by treating the venom with various chemicals such as hydrochloric acid, sodium hydroxide, thiourea, formaldehyde, zinc sulphate, acetic acid and trichloroacetic acid. The venom was also subjected to heat treatment. The levels of total protein, free amino acids and protease activity in neutralized venom decreased significantly.

Changes in carbohydrate metabolism were studied in midgut gland, muscle, and gill tissues of marine prawn Penaeus indicus exposed to a sublethal concentration (0.3 ppm) of phosphamidon. A significant decrease in glycogen and pyruvate and an increase in lactate content were observed in all phosphamidon-exposed prawn tissues after 96 hr.

A spectrophotometric method has been developed for the determination of isoxsuprine hydrochloride and its dosage forms, based on its coupling reaction with diazotized sulphanilic acid. The yellow chromophore has an absorption maximum at 440 nm. Beer's law holds over the range 0.

Selected kinesiological parameters were studied in the gastrocnemius muscle of frog, R. hexadactyla Lesson, under different treatments with malathion and atropine. There is an apparent decrease of twitch amplitude, half contraction time, half relaxation time, twitch duration and fatigue time in control muscle during malathion treatment.

The levels of proteins, glucose and glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase activity were studied in muscle, gill and liver tissues of the fish Tilapia mossambica under sublethal methyl parathion toxicity. Tissue glucose levels decreased with increased soluble protein content and the activity levels of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase were elevated considerably. These results are discussed in relation to the involvement of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase in both synthetic and detoxification processes as an adaptive response against methyl parathion toxicity.

Substrate kinetics of acetylcholinesterase (AChE) were investigated in control and dieldrin-treated Mus booduga brains. Non competitive inhibition with respect to activation by acetylcholine was indicated by decreased maximal velocity (V) without change in Michaelis-Menten constant (Km). Activation energies (delta E) were found to be increased suggesting decreased efficiency of enzyme in dieldrin-treated mouse brains.

Arginine administration (5 m moles/kg/day) to albino rats for 7 days, revealed that this vital basic amino acid possesses latent potentiality for the accentuation of urea cycle or at least for arginase activity. The mitigation of ammonia toxicity was observed to be more effective in the case of gastrocnemius and red vastus as compared to white vastus. Further, ammonia and lactate levels were also decreased by arginine in blood and thereby delaying the onset of fatigue by preventing ammonotoxemia and lactic acidemia.

Urea hydrolysis has been employed to raise the pH for homogeneous precipitation of zinc ammonium phosphate. From 30 to 100 mg of zinc can conveniently be determined by this technique (relative standard deviation 0.2% for 89 mg).

Winkler's procedure for the determination of dissolved oxygen has been modified to cope with substantial amounts of oxidizing or reducing substances in the samples. The manganese(III) is treated with an excess of hydroquinone, the unconsumed part of which is then titrated with standard ceric sulphate solution. A blank determination is also carried out, in which the order of addition of reagents is reversed so that the solution is always acidic, to allow for the interfering substances present.

Leacthing the excised embryonic-axes from dormant groundunt (Arachis hypogaea) seeds resulted in their growth. However, their growth was stunted compared to that of after-ripened ones. It is attributed to (1) the lower amount of gibberellin-like substances in the dry, dormant embryonic-axes than in the after-ripened ones, and (2) the inability of the former to sythesise tbe tibberetllin as indicated by the lower content compared to the after-ripened ones kept in water.
