In this study, a catalyst composite of Co-Cu was prepared from chloride-containing precursor of Co(II) and Cu(II) metals using the milky latex of the plant following green principles of synthesis. The catalyst composite was characterized using XRD, EDAX, SEM, HR-TEM, FTIR, XPS and TOF-MS. The crystallinity of the mixed-oxide composite with a distorted octahedral nature was confirmed from analysis.

A variety of 1,3-dihydro-2H-1,4-benzodiazepin-2-one azomethines and 1,3-dihydro-2H-1,4-benzodiazepin-2-one benzamide were prepared, characterized and evaluated for the anticonvulsant activity in the rat using picrotoxin-induced seizure model. The prepared 1,3-dihydro-2H-1,4-benzodiazepin-2-one azomethine derivatives emerged potentially anticonvulsant molecular scaffolds exemplified by compounds, 7-{(E)-[(4-nitrophenyl)methylidene]amino}-5-phenyl-1,3-dihydro-2H-1,4-benzodiazepin-2-one, 7-[(E)-{[4-(dimethylamino)phenyl]methylidene}amino]-5-phenyl-1,3-dihydro-2H-1,4-benzodiazepin-2-one, 7-{(E)-[(4-bromo-2,6-difluorophenyl)methylidene]amino}-5-phenyl-1,3-dihydro-2H-1,4-benzodiazepin-2-one and 7-[(E)-{[3-(4-fluorophenyl)-1-phenyl-1H-pyrazol-4-yl]methylidene}amino]-5-phenyl-1,3-dihydro-2H-1,4-benzodiazepin-2-one. All these four compounds have shown substantial decrease in the wet dog shake numbers and grade of convulsions with respect to the standard drug diazepam.

A series of analogs containing tetrahydrothieno[3,2-c]pyridine-2-carboxamide as a building block with numerous alicyclic and aromatic amines were synthesized. All analogs were characterized by spectral analysis and evaluated for their in vitro antiplatelet activity. 4-Fluorophenyl amide derivatives (compounds 8-11) have been found to be most active in the series with respect to prasugrel and aspirin, a third generation antiplatelet agents (P2Y12 receptor antagonists).

Efficient and general protocols for the --boc protection and -arylation of phenols were developed in this paper using a recyclable magnetic Fe₃O₄-Co₃O₄ nanocatalyst (Nano-Fe-Co), which is easily accessible via simple wet impregnation techniques in aqueous mediums from inexpensive precursors. The results showed the catalysts were well characterized by XRD (X-ray Diffraction), ICP-AES (Inductive Coupled Plasma Atomic Emission Spectroscopy), TEM (Transmission Electron Microscopy), TOF-SIMS (Time-Of-Flight Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometry) and XPS (X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy). The --boc protection and -arylation of phenols was accomplished in good to excellent yields (85–95%) and the catalyst was reusable and recyclable with no loss of catalytic activity for at least six repetitions.

Using an HIV-1 Reverse Transcriptase (RT)-associated RNase H inhibition assay as lead, bioguided fractionation of the dichloromethane extract of the Ocimum sanctum leaves led to the isolation of five triterpenes (1-5) along with three 3-methoxy-4-hydroxy phenyl derivatives (6-8). The structure of this isolates were determined by 1D and 2D NMR experiments as well as ESI-MS. Tetradecyl ferulate (8) showed an interesting RNase H IC value of 12.
