Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the early outcomes of a novel off the shelf pre-loaded inner branched thoraco-abdominal endograft (E-nside) in the treatment of aortic pathologies.

Methods: Data from a physician initiated national multicentre registry on patients treated with the E-nside endograft, were prospectively collected and analysed. Pre-operative clinical and anatomical characteristics, procedural data, and early outcomes (90 days) were recorded in a dedicated electronic data capture system.

Left ventricular assist device (LVAD) has emerged as an effective surgical therapy for end-stage heart failure. In an attempt to reduce invasiveness and avoid difficult sternal re-entries, alternative surgical approaches have been adopted. In particular, when the thoracic aorta is severely diseased or difficult to expose, subclavian arteries could serve as site for outflow graft anastomosis.

Background: Patients with LVAD require continuous monitoring and care, and since Implanting Centers (ICs) are more experienced in managing LVAD patients than other healthcare facilities, the distance between patient residency and IC could negatively affect the outcomes.

Methods: Data of patients discharged after receiving an LVAD implantation between 2010 and 2021 collected from the MIRAMACS database were retrospectively analyzed. The population was divided into two groups: A (n = 175) and B (n = 141), according to the distance between patient residency and IC ≤ or >90 miles.

Aim: The aim of the present study is to evaluate and quantify the bias of competing risks in an Italian oncologic cohort comparing results from different statistical analysis methods.

Background: Competing risks are very common in randomized clinical trials and observational studies, in particular oncology and radiotherapy ones, and their inappropriate management causes results distortions widely present in clinical scientific articles.

Materials And Methods: This is a single-institution phase II trial including 41 patients affected by prostate cancer and undergoing radiotherapy (IMRT-SIB) at the University Hospital of Udine.

Department of Neuro-Urology, CTO - Spinal Unit, Città della Salute e della Scienza di Torino, Turin, Italy.

Purpose: The aim of our study is to evaluate the efficacy and safety of ATOMS® system for the treatment of postoperative male stress urinary incontinence (SUI).

Materials And Methods: We retrospectively evaluated all patients treated at our institution for postoperative male SUI with ATOMS® implant. We excluded patients with low bladder compliance (< 20 mL / cmH2O), uncontrolled detrusor overactivity, detrusor underactivity (BCI < 100), urethral or bladder neck stricture and low cystometric capacity (< 200 mL).

AbobotulinumtoxinA: A New Therapy for Hip Osteoarthritis. A Prospective Randomized Double-Blind Multicenter Study.

Toxins (Basel)

October 2018

Neurological Unit 1, Fondazione I.R.C.C.S. Istituto Neurologico Carlo Besta, 20133 Milan, Italy.

Hip Osteoarthritis (OA) causes pain and disability. Here we evaluate abobotulinumtoxinA (Dysport) (AboBoNT-A) injections versus placebo as a novel treatment option to improve hip range of motion, pain and quality of life. This prospective randomized double-blind multicenter study (EudraCT # 2012-004890-25) recruited 46 outpatients with hip OA who were randomized 2:1 to the Treatment Group (TG; 31 subjects), or the Placebo Group (PG; 15 subjects).

Parkinson's disease is known to pose a relevant burden to society in industrialized countries. However, not much research has been conducted on the epidemiology of this disease in Italy. Our aim was to estimate the incidence rate and prevalence of Parkinson's disease in the Italian Friuli Venezia Giulia region using administrative health-related databases.

Applicability of laparoscopic approach to the resection of large adrenal tumours: a retrospective cohort study on 200 patients.

Surg Endosc

August 2016

Section of Clinica Chirurgica, Department of Medical and Biological Science, S. Maria della Misericordia University Hospital of Udine, University of Udine, Udine, Italy.

Background: Controversies exist in the best surgical approach (open vs. laparoscopy) to large adrenal tumours without peri-operative evidence of primary carcinoma, mainly due to possible capsular disruption of an unsuspected malignancy. In addition, intra-operative blood loss, conversion rate, operative time, and hospital stay may be increased with laparoscopy.
