Fibrous variant of Hashimoto's thyroiditis is a rare condition occurring in about 10% cases, mainly middle age people. It is characterized by an extensive fibrous proliferation without extension into the surrounding structures. Objective: Percutaneous laser thermal ablation (LTA) has been applied in several tumors. In this study we evaluated the safety and long-term efficacy of LTA in the treatment of benign thyroid nodules.

Design And Patients: Seven patients with autonomous hyperfunctioning thyroid nodule (group A) and five patients with compressive nodular goiter (group B) were treated with LTA.

Objective: The usefulness of power Doppler (PD), a new color Doppler ultrasonography technique, namely in the diagnosis and management of hypoechoic thyroid nodules in comparison with color Doppler (CD) is investigated in this study. Patients and methods: 157 hypoechoic thyroid nodules were studied by CD and PD. The distribution of vascular patterns was compared with the results obtained at cytology and/or histology.
