Background: In revision total knee arthroplasty, addressing significant bone loss often involves the use of cemented or press-fit stems to ensure implant stability and long-term fixation. A possible alternative to stem was recently introduced utilizing custom-made porous metaphyseal cones, designed to reconstruct the missing tibial and femoral geometries. Early clinical and radiological assessments have shown promising results.

Background-aims: The SOLE study was conducted on a large cohort of Italian patients with moderate-severe Crohn's disease (CD) to assess epidemiological and disease characteristics and their correlation with disease-related worries, treatment satisfaction and adherence, workability.

Methods: The following tools were used over 12 months to assess: Results were correlated with demographic and clinical variables with linear regression models.

Results: 552 patients with active CD (51% men) were recruited.

In recent years, there has been an explosion in the amount of available information on cancer in parallel with an ever-increasing number of cancer survivors. Cancer patients and long-term survivors are known to be more sensitive to health-related information and dietary changes could represent a potential consequence of this huge availability of messages. In our review about dietary changes after cancer diagnosis, we found that this topic is particularly investigated among the breast cancer population.

Purpose: The assessment of bowel habit is important in the management of patients with colorectal disease. There is not an ideal and practical bowel habit scoring system. The current scores have been designed only for a subclass of patients having a particular disorder.

Follow-up of patients with early breast cancer: is it time to rewrite the story?

Crit Rev Oncol Hematol

Department of Medical Oncology, IRCCS AOU San Martino-IST, Genova, Italy.

The guidelines for follow-up in breast cancer survivors support only performance of periodic physical examination and annual mammography. However, medical oncologists and primary care physicians routinely recommend both blood tests and non-mammographic imaging tests in asymptomatic patients, leading to an increased anxiety related to false-positive results and higher medical expenses. Recently, advanced imaging technologies have improved sensitivity/specificity to detect metastatic lesions before symptoms arise.

Purpose: To verify whether a tumor control probability (TCP) model which mechanistically incorporates acute and chronic hypoxia is able to describe animal in vivo dose-response data, exhibiting tumor reoxygenation.

Methods And Materials: The investigated TCP model accounts for tumor repopulation, reoxygenation of chronic hypoxia, and fluctuating oxygenation of acute hypoxia. Using the maximum likelihood method, the model is fitted to Fischer-Moulder data on Wag/Rij rats, inoculated with rat rhabdomyosarcoma BA1112, and irradiated in vivo using different fractionation schemes.

Background: Tumor size is a criterion of staging in nonfunctioning pancreatic endocrine tumors as well as a predictor of outcome after curative resection. This study analyzes the correlation between tumor size and malignancy in patients with nonfunctioning pancreatic endocrine tumors.

Methods: All patients with nonfunctioning pancreatic endocrine tumors who underwent curative resection (R0) at our institution between 1990 and 2008 were considered.

Background: Cystic pancreatic endocrine tumors (CPETs) are rare lesions and their biological features have been scarcely investigated.

Aim: To compare clinical and pathological features of resected non-functioning sporadic CPETs (NF-CPETs) with solid pancreatic endocrine tumors (SPETs) in a single-institution experience.

Methods: All patients with a pathologically confirmed diagnosis of sporadic non-functioning pancreatic endocrine tumors who underwent curative resection between 1990 and 2008 were included.
