Objective: Several studies have reported about the performance of C-choline-PET/computed tomography (CT) (choline) in patients with biochemical recurrent (BCR) prostate cancer, but there is a lack of information regarding negative choline in the same clinical setting. Our aim was to retrospectively analyse negative choline in a cohort of BCR-patients with high prostate-specific antigen (PSA).

Methods And Results: We retrospectively analysed all choline-scans performed at two high-volume imaging centres between 2005 and 2018, selecting those of interest according to the following inclusion criteria: (1) proven prostate cancer treated either with radical prostatectomy or primary external beam radiation therapy (EBRT), (2) BCR after radical prostatectomy or EBRT, (3) PSA serum values >20 ng/mL at the time of scan and (4) scan reported as negative for active disease.

December 2020

Research Unit of Rare Diseases, Department of Pediatric and Inherited Metabolic Disorders, First Faculty of Medicine, Charles University, Prague, Czech Republic; Section on Nephrology, Wake Forest School of Medicine, Winston-Salem, North Carolina, USA. Electronic address:

There have been few clinical or scientific reports of autosomal dominant tubulointerstitial kidney disease due to REN mutations (ADTKD-REN), limiting characterization. To further study this, we formed an international cohort characterizing 111 individuals from 30 families with both clinical and laboratory findings. Sixty-nine individuals had a REN mutation in the signal peptide region (signal group), 27 in the prosegment (prosegment group), and 15 in the mature renin peptide (mature group).

An anomalous origin of the left circumflex coronary artery that arises as a side branch of the right coronary artery and encircles the aortic annulus is usually an incidental finding. However, in patients undergoing aortic valve/root procedures, its existence can significantly complicate the surgical treatment. We report our operative strategy with three different prostheses without valve downsizing.

Sars-CoV-2 in pregnancy: Why is it better than expected?

Eur J Obstet Gynecol Reprod Biol

September 2020

Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, University of Parma, Parma, Italy.

Since the outbreak of Coronavirus disease in December 2019, information specific to pregnancy remains limited and controversial. Based on data from previous reports, it has been noticed that contrary to prior pandemics such as SARS, MERS and H1N1 and although pregnancy is usually considered as a condition of high susceptibility to viral infections, new SARS-CoV2 infection seems to have a more benign clinical course when affecting pregnant women. We speculate that during pregnancy the physiological "silencing" of the Th1 pro-inflammatory response may blunt the cytokines storm which is thought to play a key-role in the pathogenesis of the severe complications of Covid-19.

Immunohistochemical over-expression of HER2 does not always match with gene amplification in invasive bladder cancer.

Pathol Res Pract

August 2020

Department of Pathology, S.Orsola and Maggiore Hospital, and Department of Specialistic Diagnostic and Experimental Medicine, University of Bologna, Via Massarenti 9, 40138 Bologna, Italy.

Background: HER2 is a potential target of therapy in urothelial cancer (UC). Pathological case stratification according to HER2 gene amplification or HER2 protein overexpression was critical for patients' selection in previous unsuccessful clinical trial with HER2 targeting agents.

Study Design: We evaluated the HER2 overexpression by immunohistochemistry (IHC) together with the amplification of the HER2 gene with chromogenic(CISH) and fluorescent (FISH) in situ hybridization in a cohort of 61 patients covering the whole spectrum of bladder UC variants, using a tissue microarray (TMA) approach.
