Background: Chemotherapy plus targeted therapy is the established treatment for human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2)-overexpressing breast cancer (BC). Limited data regarding the safety and activity of the combination of eribulin and trastuzumab (E/T) in pretreated HER2-positive advanced BC (ABC) are available. The aim of this observational, retrospective, multicenter study was to examine the tolerability and the clinical activity of E/T in this setting.

Aims: Microvolt T-wave alternans (MTWA) testing is a beat-to-beat fluctuation in the amplitude of T wave. We investigated whether: (a) MTWA can be new non-invasive tool for detection of reversible ischemia in patients with suspected CAD without structural heart disease, (b) MTWA can detect ischemia earlier and with greater test accuracy compared with exercise ECG ST-segment testing, and (c) threshold value of MTWA and heart rate at which the alternans is estimated can be different compared to standard values.
Methods: A total of 101 patients with suspected stable coronary disease, but without structural heart disease, were included.

Background: The hyper-reactive malarial splenomegaly syndrome (HMS) is a leading cause of massive splenomegaly in malaria-endemic countries. HMS is caused by a chronic antigenic stimulation derived from the malaria parasite. Classic Fakunle's major criteria for case definition are: persistent gross splenomegaly, elevated anti-malarial antibodies, IgM titre >2 SD above the local mean value and favourable response to long-term malaria prophylaxis.

Aim: The aim of this study was to investigate the potential cross-talk between implantable cardioverter defibrillator device (ICD) and implantable neuromodulation device (IND) during the implantation procedure and the ventricular fibrillation induction test and in daily life.
Methods: We present two cases of patients with an IND who underwent ICD implantation and one case of a patient implanted with a biventricular ICD who received an IND 6 months later. Two of these patients had a spinal cord stimulator (SCS), while the other had a sacral neuromodulator.

We describe seven cases of meningitis in a group of young Italian travelers coming back from India. Virologic studies identified echovirus-4 as the cause of this cluster of cases, the first imported echovirus outbreak in Italy. Enteroviruses may play an important role in undiagnosed fevers in travelers.

The Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE), a brief test to assess cognitive status, is heavily influenced by age and education. It was administered to 1019 elderly subjects (aged 65-89 years) living in three different Italian cities. A statistical non-linear regression model was built up in order to obtain adjustment coefficients to reduce the influence of demographic variables on the MMSE raw scores.

In order to investigate neuropsychological differences in patients with mild AD, we carried out a pilot study on 28 patients with a clinical diagnosis of mild dementia (CDR: 0.5-1) using an extensive neuropsychological battery, in comparison with 28 normal controls. The results of a cluster analysis, applied on the neuropsychological variables, showed the existence of at least two main subgroups of patients.
