Background: Expanded-spectrum quinolones (ciprofloxacin) are highly effective against gram-negative bacteria, but significant resistance to quinolones has been increasingly reported. We sought to evaluate the prevalence of gram-negative ciprofloxacin-resistant isolates (CRIs) from our hospital and their mechanism of action.

Methods: Gram-negative CRIs were identified as per standard procedures and confirmed using the Ezy MICTM Strip (HiMedia).

A rare case of atypical Cogan's syndrome presenting as encephalitis.

Cogan's syndrome (CS) is a rare autoimmune vasculitis of unknown aetiology characterised by non-syphilitic interstitial keratitis, audiovestibular symptoms, sometimes systemic symptoms, and multi-organ involvement. Atypical CS has other ocular features, such as scleritis, episcelritis, retinitis, and optic neuritis. Diagnosis of CS is purely clinical without a confirmatory test.

Nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) is the most common cause of chronic liver disease today, and it has now emerged as the leading etiology of end-stage liver disease requiring liver transplantation. Oncologic safety of submental island flap reconstruction in clinically node-negative oral cancer patients: a prospective comparative study.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the oncologic safety of submental island flap (SIF) reconstruction in clinically node-negative oral cancer patients. Forty-four clinically node-negative oral cancer patients with tumour size T1-T3 were divided into two groups. The Submental group consisted of 21 patients, who underwent submental island flap reconstruction whereas the control group consisted of 23 patients who underwent reconstruction with other locoregional or free flaps.
