This study investigated the binding mechanism of taxifolin (TA), daidzein (DA), and S-equol (SQ) flavonoids with fish sperm double helix DNA (dsDNA) under the simulated physiological pH condition using UV-Vis and photoluminescence spectroscopy, as well as viscometric methods. Binding constants (K) for the flavonoids to dsDNA were determined as 1.8 × 10 M for SQ, 1.

Toughening of thermoset composites using glass/polypropylene commingled stitching yarns.

Heliyon

January 2025

Portsmouth Centre for Advanced Materials and Manufacturing (PCAMM), School of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering, University of Portsmouth, Portsmouth, PO1 3DJ, UK.

This paper investigates the damage resistance and tolerance of thermoset composite laminates stitched by glass and hybrid glass/polypropylene commingled yarns. Different impact energies (10-70 J) were applied to stitched composite laminates before compression after impact (CAI) tests were conducted. The results showed that, except for 70J, commingled yarn-stitched laminates absorbed more energy than glass-stitched laminates.

Background: The aim of this study is to examine the relationship between elabela (ELA), a recently identified peptide also known as Toddler and Apela, and diabetic retinopathy (DR). ELA, produced in various tissues, acts as a natural ligand for the apelin receptor (APJ). Upon reviewing the existing literature, only one study was found investigating ELA, one of the APJ ligands, in the pathogenesis of DR.

Neurodegenerative diseases are significant health concerns that have a profound impact on the quality and duration of life for millions of individuals. These diseases are characterized by pathological changes in various brain regions, specific genetic mutations associated with the disease, deposits of abnormal proteins, and the degeneration of neurological cells. As neurodegenerative disorders vary in their epidemiological characteristics and vulnerability of neurons, treatment of these diseases is usually aimed at slowing disease progression.

Prediction of body weight (BW) using biometric measurements is an important tool especially for animal welfare and automatic phenotyping tools that needs mathematical models. In this study, it was aimed to predict the BW using body length (BL), chest girth (CG) and width of the waist (WW) for rabbits of the maternal form of Hyla NG. The standard rabbit-raising practices were applied for the animals.

The purpose of this study was to determine the levels of IL-17, Bcl-3 and IκBζ gene expression in the gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) of psoriatic and healthy individuals and to compare the clinical periodontal parameters in the patient and control groups. A total of 10 psoriasis patients and 2 healthy patients in the control group were included in the analysis for IL-17, Bcl-3, and IκBζ gene expression in the GCF. Periodontal health, gingival index, plaque index, and mobility (using a periotest device) levels were compared between the groups.
