This paper presents a new phase-shift modulation for isolated dual active bridge (DAB) direct current-direct current (DC-DC) converter. The proposed technique aims to minimize the maximum current stress of the converter, which could directly increase the efficiency and reduce the device losses. This modulation technique controls the converter power through only two phase-shift angles or two degrees of freedom; one phase shift is used between the legs of its first bridge and the other one between the legs of the second bridge.

Introduction: Cardiac surgery for older patients, postoperative functional decline and the need for long-term care have received increasing attention as essential outcomes in recent years. Therefore, prevention of functional decline and long-term care dependency after cardiac surgery are important; however, our current understanding of postoperative functional trajectory and effects of postoperative regular exercise on long-term functional decline and long-term care dependency is limited. Therefore, we will conduct a multicentre, prospective cohort study to (1) examine the effect of hospital-acquired disability on long-term functional decline and long-term care dependency and (2) investigate the favourable effect of postoperative regular exercise on long-term functional decline and long-term care dependency in older patients after cardiac surgery.

To our knowledge, this study represents the first demonstration of Arthrographis kalrae biofilm formation in vitro by scanning electron microscopy and the distinct cytotoxic activity between planktonic and biofilm extracts on RAW 264.7 cell line. Higher activity was observed with biofilm.

Cytochrome P450 (CYP) 3A4 is one of the major drug-metabolizing enzymes. Genetic variants of CYP3A4 with altered activity are one of the factors responsible for interindividual differences in drug metabolism. Azole antifungals inhibit CYP3A4 to cause clinically significant drug-drug interactions.

Accretionary prisms are thick layers of sedimentary material piled up at convergent plate boundaries. Large amounts of anaerobic groundwater and methane (CH) are contained in the deep aquifers associated with accretionary prisms. In order to identify microbial activity and CH production processes in the deep aquifers associated with the Cretaceous accretionary prism in Okinawa Island, Japan, we performed geochemical and microbiological studies using anaerobic groundwater and natural gas (mainly CH) samples collected through four deep wells.

Abnormal NKG2D ligand expression has been implicated in the initiation and maintenance of various auto-inflammatory disorders including systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). This study's goal was to identify the cellular contexts providing NKG2D ligands for stimulation of the immunosuppressive NKG2DCD4 T cell subset that has been implicated in modulating juvenile-onset SLE disease activity. Although previous observations with NKG2DCD4 T cells in healthy individuals pointed towards peripheral B cell and myeloid cell compartments as possible sites of enhanced NKG2DL presence, we found no evidence for a disease-associated increase of NKG2DL-positivity among juvenile-onset SLE B cells and monocytes.

Objectives: To present and characterize CT and MR imaging findings of metastases to the parotid nodes.
Methods: CT (n = 10) and MR (n = 11) images from 14 patients with metastases to the parotid nodes were reviewed. The primary tumour sites were the ocular adnexa in five patients, facial skin in four patients, upper aerodigestive tract in four patients and thyroid gland in one patient.

Corals belong to the most basal class of the Phylum Cnidaria, which is considered the sister group of bilaterian animals, and thus have become an emerging model to study the evolution of developmental mechanisms. Although cell renewal, differentiation, and maintenance of pluripotency are cellular events shared by multicellular animals, the cellular basis of these fundamental biological processes are still poorly understood. To understand how changes in gene expression regulate morphogenetic transitions at the base of the eumetazoa, we performed quantitative RNA-seq analysis duringAcropora digitifera's development.

Objective: A multicenter phase II trial was conducted to assess the efficacy and toxicity of concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CCRT) with weekly cisplatin (CDDP) and paclitaxel (PTX) in patients with locally advanced uterine cervical cancer.
Methods: Patients with FIGO stage III-IVA uterine cervical cancer without para-aortic lymphadenopathy were enrolled. Patients received definitive radiotherapy (RT) consisting of external beam whole-pelvic RT and high-dose-rate intracavitary brachytherapy.

Objective: The aim of the present study was to consider the safety and efficacy of concurrent use of strontium-89 (Sr-89) with external beam radiotherapy (EBRT) for multiple bone metastases, including lesions that require urgent therapy.
Methods: A retrospective review was performed of a consecutive series of patients who received Sr-89 for multiple bone metastases. Forty-five patients with multiple bone metastases received Sr-89 injection.

Objective: To examine patterns of high resolution computed tomography (HRCT) of lungs of adults with disseminated tuberculosis (TB).
Design: Disseminated TB was defined as radiological involvement of all lung lobes.
Results: The case series illustrated wide variation in HRCT of disseminated TB.

Objective: Due to the paucity of reports evaluating stress induced by thoracoscopic surgery with minithoracotomy, we assessed this stress based on the inflammatory response to surgery.
Methods: Differences in pre- and postoperative peripheral white blood cell (WBC) count, serum C-reactive protein (CRP), and serum interleukin-6 (IL-6) were evaluated, defined as dW, dCRP, and dIL-6. Thoracoscopic partial lung resection cases were divided into 2 groups by access route: Group A patients in which surgery was concluded via several small access ports.

A survey was made of the sleep and lifestyle activity patterns of 3754 students from 14 different junior high schools on Okinawa Island. The survey showed that bedtimes became progressively and significantly later as students ascended to higher grades, resulting in adolescent sleep debt. The later adolescents retired to sleep, there appeared significantly greater numbers suffering from insufficient sleep, who found difficulty in waking up, who arose later in the mornings, and who failed to eat breakfast.

We compared thoracoscopic surgery (TS) and open thoracotomy for the diagnosis of interstitial pneumonia. Intraoperative blood loss and duration of postoperative chest drainage were significantly less with TS than with thoracotomy. The length of postoperative hospital stay and social insurance costs with TS was significantly less than with thoracotomy.
