FDG altered biodistribution in white adipose tissue, a rare entity: case report and review of the literature.

Purpose: Altered F-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) biodistribution due to patient factors such as exercise and inadequate fasting are well established causes of limited diagnostic efficacy. In addition, medications such as G-CSF are known to affect uptake of FDG by bone marrow and spleen. In this study, we present a case of increased white adipose uptake in a pediatric lymphoma patient who recently received high dose dexamethasone and review the relevant literature regarding this rare and poorly understood pattern of altered FDG biodistribution.

Regulation of MicroRNA-4697-3p by Parkinson's disease-associated SNP rs329648 and its impact on SNCA112 mRNA.

Background: Parkinson's disease (PD) is a common neurodegenerative disorder characterized by a multifaceted genetic foundation. Genome-Wide Association Studies (GWAS) have played a crucial role in pinpointing genetic variants linked to PD susceptibility. Current study aims to delve into the mechanistic aspects through which the PD-associated Single Nucleotide Polymorphism (SNP) rs329648, identified in prior GWAS, influences the pathogenesis of PD.

An ordinal clinical score predicts seizure freedom after minimally invasive epilepsy surgery.

Objective: To predict one-year seizure freedom, using a combination of relevant clinical variables, following stereotactic laser amygdalohippocampotomy for mesial temporal lobe epilepsy in a series of 101 patients.

Methods: Eight predictors of seizure freedom were selected based on their association with medial temporal lobe epilepsy: (1) MRI evidence of mesial temporal sclerosis (MTS); (2) unitemporal interictal epileptiform discharges; (3) absence of generalized tonic-clonic seizures; (4) history of febrile seizures; (5) onset of epilepsy ≤16 years; (6) absence of an auditory, visual, or vertiginous aura; and (7) unitemporal ictal onset; (8) unitemporal PET hypometabolism. We compared four multivariate models: "MTS," using just evidence of MTS; "FULL," using all eight binary predictors; "AIC" using backwards selection of variables; and "SCORE," using a 0-to-8-point ordinal score awarding one point for each binary predictor.

Analysis of Surgeon and Center Case Volume and Stroke or Death after Transcarotid Artery Revascularization.

Background: It has been suggested that the annual hospital volume of cases may affect the number of adverse events after carotid endarterectomy (CEA). We aim to study the associations between hospital as well as surgeon volume and the risk of stroke or death after transcarotid artery revascularization (TCAR).

Study Design: Retrospective review of the Vascular Quality Initiative data of patients undergoing TCAR from 2016 to 2021.

Use of immune checkpoint inhibitors in solid organ transplant recipients with advanced cutaneous malignancies.

Background: Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICI) are standard of care therapy for patients with cutaneous malignancies, the most frequently diagnosed cancers in solid organ transplant (SOT) recipients. The activity and rate of allograft rejection in SOT recipients with advanced skin cancers treated with ICI is understudied.

Methods: We conducted a retrospective analysis of SOT recipients with advanced melanoma, cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (cSCC), and merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) who were treated with ICI.

Single-Position Synchronal Management of Metastatic Prostate Cancer of the Spine and Femur Using Prone Nailing: A Case Report.

Case: A 71-year-old man with castration-resistant Stage IVB prostate cancer developed symptomatic oligometastatic disease in the lumbar spine and bilateral proximal femurs. He was treated with a single-position L2-L4 kyphoplasty with concomitant prone left-sided femoral prophylactic cephalomedullary nailing. Six months later when he again lost the ability to ambulate, he was treated with a single-position L4-L5 laminectomy for an epidural tumor with prone right-sided femoral prophylactic cephalomedullary nailing.

Introduction: Past research examining the relationship between exposure to online e-cigarette marketing and e-cigarette-related attitudes and behaviors has relied on unaided recall measures that may suffer from self-report bias. To date, few studies have presented participants with e-cigarette marketing stimuli and assessed recognition. This study examined the associations between recognition of online e-cigarette marketing stimuli and e-cigarette-related attitudes and behaviors among young adults in California.

Autosomal Recessive Infantile Hyaline Fibromatosis Identified Using Artificial Intelligence-Assisted Rapid Whole Genome Sequencing: A Rare, Multisystemic, Hereditary Disorder.

Infantile hyaline fibromatosis syndrome (HFS) is an ultra-rare genetic condition characterized by the deposition of hyaline material in the skin, muscle, and viscera. Potential complications include debilitating joint contractures, coarse facial features, recurrent infections, failure to thrive, and death. Here, we present the case of a six-month-old infant with a history of painful extremity contractures, global developmental delay, neck hemangioma, and feeding intolerance presenting to our institution with abdominal distension.

Complications and adverse events in lymphadenectomy of the inguinal area: worldwide expert consensus.

Background: Inguinal lymph node dissection plays an important role in the management of melanoma, penile and vulval cancer. Inguinal lymph node dissection is associated with various intraoperative and postoperative complications with significant heterogeneity in classification and reporting. This lack of standardization challenges efforts to study and report inguinal lymph node dissection outcomes.

PET Imaging in Chimeric Antigen Receptor T-Cell Trafficking.

The evolving field of chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy, though promising, necessitates more comprehensive imaging methods to enhance therapeutic effectiveness and track cell trafficking in patients and ex vivo. This review examines the application of PET imaging in CAR T-cell trafficking and optimizing their therapeutic impact. The application of PET imaging using various radiotracers is promising in providing evaluation of CAR T-cell interaction within the host, thereby facilitating strategies for improved patient outcomes.

Risks of Placental Abruption and Preterm Delivery in Patients Undergoing Assisted Reproduction.

Importance: Patients using assisted reproductive technology (ART) may need additional counseling about the increased risks of placental abruption and preterm delivery. Further investigation into the potential additive risk of ART and placental abruption is needed.

Objective: To ascertain the risk of placental abruption in patients who conceived with ART and to evaluate if placental abruption and ART conception are associated with an increased risk of preterm delivery (<37 weeks' gestation) over and above the risks conferred by each factor alone.

Aim: We sought to explore the experiences and perceptions of the quality of life of adolescents with pediatric-onset multiple sclerosis and assess their readiness for academic, employment and/or health care-related transitions.

Background: Adolescents with pediatric-onset multiple sclerosis face unique challenges in managing a chronic illness while navigating future scholastic, social and occupational goals. We conducted a qualitative study with in-depth, semi-structured interviews from July 2017 to March 2019.

Longitudinal program evaluation of an inter-institutional mentorship network for pediatric rheumatology using a quality improvement framework.

Background: The American College of Rheumatology (ACR)/Childhood Arthritis and Rheumatology Research Alliance (CARRA) Mentoring Interest Group (AMIGO) is an inter-institutional mentorship program launched to target mentorship gaps within pediatric rheumatology. Initial program evaluation indicated increased mentorship access. Given the small size of the pediatric rheumatology workforce, maintaining a consistent supply of mentors was a potential threat to the longevity of the network.

The Role of Midwives in US Perinatal Palliative Care: A Scoping Review.

Introduction: Perinatal palliative care (PPC) is a rapidly growing and essential reproductive health care option for pregnant persons with a diagnosed life-limiting fetal condition who continue their pregnancy. The provision of PPC is within the scope of basic midwifery competencies, and midwives are well-positioned to make unique and valuable contributions to interprofessional PPC teams. However, little is known about midwives' past or current involvement in PPC in the United States.

Aims: Despite advances in therapies, the disease burden of heart failure (HF) has been rising globally. International comparisons of HF management and outcomes may reveal care patterns that improve outcomes. Accordingly, we examined clinical management and patient outcomes in older adults hospitalized for acute HF in the United States (US) and Japan.

Objective: COVID-19 has been associated with myocardial involvement in collegiate athletes. The first report from the Big Ten COVID-19 Cardiac Registry (Registry) was an ecological study that reported myocarditis in 37 of 1597 athletes (2.3%) based on local clinical diagnosis.

A Fatal Case of 3-Hydroxyisobutyryl-CoA Hydrolase Deficiency in a Term Infant with Severe High Anion Gap Acidosis and Review of the Literature.

3-hydroxy isobutyl-CoA hydrolase (HIBCH) deficiency is a recently described, rare inborn error of valine metabolism associated with a Leigh syndrome-like phenotype, neurodegenerative symptoms, and caused by recessive mutations in the HIBCH gene. We report the most severe case to date of an intrauterine growth-restricted term male who presented with severe acidosis and a high anion gap soon after birth. The manifestation was fatal that led to death within 36 hours of life.
