A novel finite element model is proposed to study the mechanical response of axons embedded in extracellular matrix when subjected to tensile loads under purely non-affine kinematic boundary conditions. Ogden hyperelastic material model describes the axons and the extracellular matrix material characterizations. Two axon-glia tethering scenarios in white matter are studied a single oligodendrocyte (single-OL) with multiple connections a multi-oligodendrocyte (multi-OL) one.

One potential therapeutic strategy for Alzheimer disease (AD) is to promote degradation of amyloid beta (Aβ) and we previously demonstrated that the lysosomal protease tripeptidyl peptidase 1 (TPP1) can degrade Aβ fibrils in vitro. In this study, we tested the hypothesis that increasing levels of TPP1 might promote degradation of Aβ under physiological conditions, slowing or preventing its accumulation in the brain with subsequent therapeutic benefits. We used 2 approaches to increase TPP1 activity in the brain of J20 mice, an AD model that accumulates Aβ and exhibits cognitive defects: transgenic overexpression of TPP1 in the brain and a pharmacological approach employing administration of recombinant TPP1.

This study aimed to analyze prehospital Emergency Medical Services (EMS) response to the COVID-19 pandemic in the US through a brief systematic review of available literature in context with international prehospital counterparts. An exploration of the NCBI repository was performed using a search string of relevant keywords which returned n=5128 results; articles that met the inclusion criteria (n=77) were reviewed and analyzed in accordance with PRISMA and PROSPERO recommendations. Methodical quality was assessed using critical appraisal tools, and the Egger's test was used for risk of bias reduction upon linear regression analysis of a funnel plot.

In this paper we perform a critical analysis of the Orch OR consciousness theory at the crossroad with the newest experimental results coming from the search for spontaneous radiation predicted by the simplest version of gravity-related dynamical collapse models. We conclude that Orch OR theory, when based on the simplest version of gravity-related dynamical collapse, is highly implausible in all the cases analyzed. We discuss the implications of our findings, the limitations, and future plans toward the development of more realistic gravity-related collapse models.

This paper aimed to provide a holistic view of research that investigated online learning in higher education around the globe during COVID-19 utilizing a bibliometric analysis. The researchers used co-citation analysis and text mining afforded by VOSviewer to document and analyze research patterns and topics reported in peer-reviewed documents published between January 2020 and August 2021. Findings of this study indicated that scholars from 103 countries or regions from the Global North and Global South investigated a wide array of topics, such as use of various technologies and strategies, redesigned curriculum, student perceptions and psychological impacts of the pandemic-imposed online learning.

This qualitative study examined 23 autobiographical narratives to understand how dementia caregivers discursively construct a sense of belonging through In this study, belonging is understood as an individual feeling valued by a group that is communicatively enacted by both the individual and members of the group. This exploratory study revealed two characteristics of belonging as a communicative concept: (a) two-way street and (b) multi-faceted. Findings suggest that belonging is a more nuanced concept than previously thought.

The effects of neural stem/progenitor cells (NSPCs) have been extensively evaluated by multiple studies in animal models of Parkinson's disease (PD), but the therapeutic efficacy was inconsistent. Here, we searched 4 databases (PubMed, Embase, Scopus, and Web of Science) and performed a meta-analysis to estimate the therapeutic effects of unmodified NSPCs on neurological deficits in rodent animal models of PD. Data on study quality score, behavioral outcomes (apomorphine or amphetamine-induced rotation and limb function), histological outcome (densitometry of TH+ staining in the SNpc), and cell therapy-related severe adverse events were extracted for meta-analysis and systematic review.

Background: Recovery housing plays an important role in supporting individuals in their recovery by building recovery capital and providing stable living environments; however, the extent to which medications for opioid use disorder (MOUD), the gold standard for OUD treatment, are accepted in recovery housing settings is unclear. The purpose of this study, as part of a larger statewide evaluation of Missouri recovery homes, was to identify the extent to which Missouri recovery houses were accepting of methadone, buprenorphine, and naltrexone as well as the extent to which the acceptance of each medication was linked to whether the recovery home encouraged tapering off MOUDs.

Methods: Sixty-four recovery housing managers and/or staff, out of 66 eligible recovery homes in Missouri completed the survey.
