Background And Objectives: External ventricular drain (EVD) is a common neurosurgical procedure with potential complications, including catheter misplacement, infection, mechanical obstruction, and inadvertent catheter pull-out. A less discussed but critical complication is the misadministration of medications into EVD. This project aimed to review the literature on EVD misadministration and discuss preventative measures, emphasizing the new International Organization for Standardization (ISO) standard for neuraxial connectors.

The unique properties of exosomes can be exploited for use as biomarkers and targeted drug delivery vehicles, and are, for this reason, gaining increasing attention in the field of dermatology. This review aims to synthesise the existing evidence supporting exosomes in regenerative and cosmetic dermatology.

Objectives: We aimed to study the disease course, outcomes, and predictors of outcome in pediatric-onset anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA)-associated vasculitis (AAV) affecting the kidneys.
Methods: Patients eligible for this study had a diagnosis of granulomatosis with polyangiitis (GPA), microscopic polyangiitis (MPA), or ANCA positive pauci-immune glomerulonephritis, were ≤ 18 years at diagnosis, had renal disease defined by biopsy or dialysis dependence, and had clinical data at diagnosis and either 12- or 24-months. Ambispective data from the ARChiVE/PedVas Registry was used.

Application of single-cell/nucleus genomic sequencing to patient-derived tissues offers potential solutions to delineate disease mechanisms in human. However, individual cells in patient-derived tissues are in different pathological stages, and hence such cellular variability impedes subsequent differential gene expression analyses. To overcome such heterogeneity issue, we present a novel deep learning approach, scIDST, that infers disease progressive levels of individual cells with weak supervision framework.

Background: Since the initial introduction in 1967 of spinal cord stimulation (SCS) in the field of neuromodulation, SCS has been utilized to treat a multitude of chronic pain disorders refractory to both conservative and surgical management. Although efficacious when indicated, SCS has associated risks.
Objectives: The goals of this study are to explore the trend of rates of SCS complications in 2 approximately equally sized cohorts (1999-2015 and 2016-2021) within a single institution over a 22-year period.

Introduction: Over 100 million displaced people rely on health services in humanitarian contexts, defined as unstable or transitory settings created in response to complex emergencies. While services are often described, there is a dearth of evidence on best practices for successful implementation to guide efforts to optimize health delivery. Implementation science is a promising but underutilized tool to address this gap.

Cervical cancer is a significant global health issue, ranking as the second most prevalent cancer among women of reproductive age. While prevention strategies like HPV vaccination and screening have made it highly preventable, these benefits are mostly seen in high-HDI nations. In contrast, LMICs lag behind, with Afghanistan facing a growing crisis due to war, poverty, and lack of awareness.

The transmeatal extension of the retrosigmoid approach is an important procedure used in the treatment of various pathologies affecting the posterior fossa, petroclival region, and jugular foramen. Mastering this technique requires a high level of manual skill, particularly in temporal bone drilling. The objective of this study was to describe an easily accessible and cost-effective model of the transmeatal extension of the retrosigmoid approach using cadaveric sheep heads.

Resected rectal polyps with deep invasion into the submucosa (pT1b-sm2,3) or the muscle layer (pT2) are currently confronted with surgery due to non-curative resection. We evaluated the efficacy, safety, and locoregional control of adjuvant radiotherapy (RT) and/or chemotherapy (CT) following endoscopic KAR (knife-assisted resection) in patients with invasive early rectal cancers who are unwilling or unsuitable for additional surgical resection. Fifty-one patients with early rectal cancers, pT1b or pT2, underwent post-resection adjuvant RT and/or CT in 15 centers worldwide.

Introduction: Surgical society guidelines facilitate implementation of up-to-date, evidence-based care, but concerns regarding the contemporality and quality of evidence can hinder adherence. We aimed to evaluate the time gap between evidence publication and their inclusion within clinical guidelines-the publication-to-guideline delay-and characterize the quality of evidence within contemporary surgical society guidelines.

Enteropathogenic Escherichia coli (EPEC) is a gastrointestinal pathogen that affects individuals of all age groups, with infections ranging from subclinical colonization to acute or persistent diarrhea. The bacterium's ability to cause diarrhea depends on the locus of enterocyte effacement (LEE) pathogenicity island. Although regulation of the LEE has been systematically characterized, until the last decade, studies mainly focused on its transcriptional control.

Twins suffer a disproportionately higher burden of adverse perinatal outcomes than singletons. However, the degree to which preterm delivery shapes the relationship between abruption and perinatal mortality in twins is unknown. Through causal mediation decomposition, we examine how preterm delivery mediates the effect of abruption on perinatal mortality among twins using the US-matched multiple birth data (1995-2000).

Traumatic brain injury (TBI) affects neural function at the local injury site and also at distant, connected brain areas. However, the real-time neural dynamics in response to injury and subsequent effects on sensory processing and behaviour are not fully resolved, especially across a range of spatial scales. We used in vivo calcium imaging in awake, head-restrained male and female mice to measure large-scale and cellular resolution neuronal activation, respectively, in response to a mild/moderate TBI induced by focal controlled cortical impact (CCI) injury of the motor cortex (M1).

Dermatomyositis (DM) is an immune mediated inflammatory disease classically associated with muscular and cutaneous involvement. Existing studies have suggested characteristic nailfold findings may be observed in DM, indicating a potential role for nailfold microscopic examination in the diagnosis of DM. To that end, we performed a systematic review of literature pertaining to nailfold microscopic, capillaroscopic, and dermoscopic findings observed in patients with DM, with a secondary review of the association of nailfold microscopic findings with myositis-specific antibody (MSA) and myositis-associated antibody (MAA) status.
