Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the combination of venetoclax (VEN) and vincristine (L-VCR) for patients with relapsed or refractory acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) or lymphoblastic lymphoma (LL).
  • In a dose escalation trial with 18 patients, the maximum tolerated dose (MTD) of the drug combination was determined to be VEN at 600 mg, with significant adverse events reported in 89% of participants.
  • The preliminary results showed a 22% complete response rate, with some patients achieving no measurable residual disease, indicating potential efficacy for this treatment approach.

Purpose: The purpose of this work is to describe the association between body mass index (BMI) and (1) management option for localized prostate cancer (PCa) and (2) disease-specific quality of life (ds-QoL) after treatment or active surveillance.

Subjects/patients And Methods: We analysed data from men with localized PCa managed with radical prostatectomy (RP), radiation therapy (RT), or active surveillance (AS) in a prospective, population-based cohort study. We evaluated the association between BMI and management option with multivariable multinomial logistic regression analysis.

Objectives: Patient education resources that address barriers to health literacy to improve understanding and outcomes in myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) are limited. The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact and outcomes benefits of cancer educational modules (which includes the 'You and MDS' website and YouTube hosted resources) related to MDS education, awareness, understanding and health outcomes.

Methods: This was a retrospective study of learner feedback, metrics, and utilization data from July 2018 to August 2021.

Objective: Mortality-trends from alcoholic liver disease (ALD) have recently increased and they differ by various factors in the U.S. However, these trends have only been analyzed using univariate models and in reality they may be influenced by various factors.

Relative survival is the ratio of overall survival (OS) over survival of the general population, and widely used in epidemiological studies. But it is artificially higher than OS and thus inferior to OS for cancer prognostication of individual patients. Moreover, trend-changes and disparities in OS of breast cancer are unclear while the relative survival of breast cancer has been reported on a regular basis.

Although annual mortality trends for prostate cancer were stabilized in recent years, understanding the exact treatment changes is necessary for optimal management. Utilization of not-otherwise specified (NOS) treatments for prostate cancer was unclear. Thus, this study aimed to analyze trends in treatment for prostate cancer in the U.

Classification of multicategory survival-outcome is important for precision oncology. Machine learning (ML) algorithms have been used to accurately classify multi-category survival-outcome of some cancer-types, but not yet that of lung adenocarcinoma. Therefore, we compared the performances of 3 ML models (random forests, support vector machine [SVM], multilayer perceptron) and multinomial logistic regression (Mlogit) models for classifying 4-category survival-outcome of lung adenocarcinoma using the TCGA.

The majority of patients with prostate cancer die of non-cancer causes of death (COD). It is thus important to accurately predict multi-category COD in these patients. Random forest (RF), a popular machine learning model, has been shown useful for predicting binary cancer-specific deaths.

Background: The recent outbreak of novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) has infected tens of thousands of patients in China. Studies have forecasted future trends of the incidence of 2019-nCoV infection, but appeared unsuccessful. Farr's law is a classic epidemiology theory/practice for predicting epidemics.

Natural products have shown potential to be combined with current cancer therapies to improve patient outcomes. Nobiletin (NBT) is a citrus polymethoxyflavone and has been shown to exert an anticancer effect in various cancer cells. We investigated the effects and mechanisms of NBT in combination with bicalutamide (BCT), a commonly used anti-androgen drug in prostate cancer therapy, on prostate cancer cells.

Little is known about association of mucin abundancy with oncogenic-driver alterations, immunohistochemical and clinicopathologic features in lung adenocarcinomas among Chinese. We here retrospectively examined the clinicopathologic and molecular characteristics of pulmonary mucin-producing adenocarcinoma (PMPA) and previously-reported non-mucinous lung adenocarcinomas collected at our institution. Among the 897 non-mucinous adenocarcinomas, 61 PMPA with ≤90% mucin and 39 PMPA with >90% mucin, ALK rearrangements were found in 47 (5.

The current standard of care for patients with metastatic prostate cancer includes ADT with a palliative intent. Recent studies have investigated the role of local therapy in metastatic prostate cancer. While retrospective data has shown some benefit with regard to survival and delay in initiation of ADT, there has been limited prospective Randomized data.

Ibrutinib is a first-in-class inhibitor of Bruton's tyrosine kinase, which is approved for use in chronic lymphocytic leukemia, mantle cell lymphoma, and Waldenstrom's macroglobulinemia. Although ibrutinib has been linked to an increased incidence of atrial fibrillation, this is the first report of an association with nonischemic cardiomyopathy and ventricular arrhythmia.

An immunocompetent 50-year-old male presented with slight cough and occasional lung congestion. The radiologic findings included diffuse, bilateral reticular and one nodular opacity at the upper lobe of right lung without clear margin. A wedge resection of the lesion showed disordered distribution of the medium-sized vessels and arterioles, several arterioles densely gathered including a few occlusive arterioles, or medium veins dilated with irregular and elongated cavity, indicating the existence of vascular malformation.

Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) of sputum deposition (SD) is an important method to assist in the diagnosis of pulmonary alveolar proteinosis (PAP). However, the low positive rate and poor quality of slices restrict the application of sputum samples in the diagnosis of PAP. Furthermore, it can be more difficult to obtain a sufficient amount of sample for TEM if the patients have little or no sputum.
