In laboratory conditions, composite sutures based on polylactide (PLA) containing chitin nanofibrils modified with polyethylene glycol (CN-PEG) and poviargol (silver nanoparticles stabilized with poly(N-vinylpyrrolidone)) were obtained, studied, and used as a prototype. Surgical sutures threads with the addition of CN-PEG have stable mechanical properties both in air and in a buffer simulating the environment of a living organism. The yield strength of oriented threads decreased by an average of 15%, whereas for non-oriented threads the decrease was 3-4 times.

Granov Russian Research Center for Radiology and Surgical Technologies, Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, 197758 St. Petersburg, Russia.

Exosomes, the subclass of small membrane extracellular vesicles, have great diagnostic and therapeutic potential, but the lack of standardized methods for their efficient isolation and analysis limits the introduction of exosomal technologies into clinical practice. This review discusses the problems associated with the isolation of exosomes from biological fluids, as well as the principles of traditional and alternative methods of isolation. The aim of the presented review is to illustrate the variety of approaches based on the physical and biochemical properties of exosomes that can be used for exosome isolation.

N-vinylpyrrolidone-co-allylamine copolymers (VP-co-AA) containing iminodiacetic (IDA) chelation units were prepared in the range of molecular masses of the copolymers from 9000 to 30,000 Da depending on polymerization conditions. Non-radioactive organometallic species Re(CO) were introduced into polymeric carriers under mild conditions; the prepared metal-polymeric complexes were characterized by IR, NMR, ESI-MS and HPLC. IR spectra data confirmed the coordination of M(CO) moiety to the polymeric backbone via IDA chelation unit (appearance of characteristic fac-M(CO) vibrations (2005, 1890 cm), as well as the appearance of group of signals in H NMR spectra, corresponding to those inequivalent to methylene protons CHCOO (dd, 4.

Polymorphisms of neurotransmitter metabolism genes were studied in patients with prostate cancer (PC) characterized by either reduced or extended serum prostate-specific antigen doubling time (PSADT) corresponding to unfavorable and favorable disease prognosis respectively. The 'unfavorable prognosis' group (40 cases) was defined by PSADT ≤ 2 months, whereas patients in the 'favorable prognosis' group (67 cases) had PSADT ≥ 30 months. The following gene polymorphisms known to be associated with neuropsychiatric disorders were investigated: a) the STin2 VNTR in the serotonin transporter gene; b) the 30-bp VNTR in the monoamine oxidase A gene; c) the Val158Met polymorphism in the catechol-ortho-methyltransferase gene; d) the promoter region C-521T polymorphism and the 48 VNTR in the third exon of the dopamine receptor gene.

Insufficient knowledge age peculiarities of the clinical course of cardiac arrhythmias occurring asymptomatically as a manifestation of cardiotoxicity in women with breast cancer at the stage of radiation therapy, determines the high demand for research on this problem. The aim of the study was to identify and evaluate asymptomatic cardiac arrhythmias in elderly women with left breast cancer at the stage of radiation therapy. 48 women without a history of severe cardiovascular disease with HER2neu negative cancer of the left breast at the stage of 3D conformal radiotherapy were examined.

Copolymer of N-vinylpyrrolidone (VP) with vinylformamide (VFA) and N-vinyliminodiacetic acid (VIDA) was synthesized; its metal-polymer complexes (MPCs) with gallium were obtained. The complexes were characterized by size exclusion chromatography, hydrodynamic and optical methods, scanning electron microscopy, and spectral methods (UV, IR, Н NMR spectroscopy). It was demonstrated that in going from polymer to complex, hydrodynamic parameters of macromolecules change only slightly, although the polymer contains intramolecular Ga(VIDA) fragments in its structure.

Background: Studies in patients with rheumatoid arthritis and advanced follicular lymphoma have shown that CT-P10, a rituximab biosimilar, has equivalent or non-inferior efficacy and pharmacokinetics to rituximab. We aimed to assess the therapeutic equivalence of single-agent CT-P10 and rituximab in patients with newly diagnosed low-tumour burden follicular lymphoma.

Methods: In this ongoing, randomised, double-blind, parallel-group, active-controlled, phase 3 trial, adult patients (≥18 years) with stage II-IV low-tumour-burden follicular lymphoma were randomly assigned (1:1) using an interactive web or voice response system stratified by region, stage, and age to CT-P10 or US-sourced rituximab.

The effects of auditory enrichment on zebrafish behavior and physiology.

PeerJ

July 2018

Programa de Pós-Graduação em Farmacologia, Universidade Federal de Santa Maria (UFSM), Santa Maria, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil.

Environmental enrichment is widely used to improve welfare and behavioral performance of animal species. It ensures housing of laboratory animals in environments with space and complexity that enable the expression of their normal behavioral repertoire. Auditory enrichment by exposure to classical music decreases abnormal behaviors and endocrine stress responses in humans, non-humans primates, and rodents.

Despite the high prevalence of neural and immune disorders, their etiology and molecular mechanisms remain poorly understood. As the zebrafish (Danio rerio) is increasingly utilized as a powerful model organism in biomedical research, mounting evidence suggests these fish as a useful tool to study neural and immune mechanisms and their interplay. Here, we discuss zebrafish neuro-immune mechanisms and their pharmacological and genetic modulation, the effect of stress on cytokines, as well as relevant models of microbiota-brain interplay.

Electronic address:

The endocannabinoid and opioid systems are two interplaying neurotransmitter systems that modulate drug abuse, anxiety, pain, cognition, neurogenesis and immune activity. Although they are involved in such critical functions, our understanding of endocannabinoid and opioid physiology remains limited, necessitating further studies, novel models and new model organisms in this field. Zebrafish (Danio rerio) is rapidly emerging as one of the most effective translational models in neuroscience and biological psychiatry.
