Article Synopsis
  • Rf1 is a crucial gene for restoring male fertility in sunflowers, but its exact location and function have yet to be fully determined.
  • Researchers have developed two new markers based on single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) linked to the Rf1 gene, which have proven effective for genotyping various sunflower accessions and populations.
  • The study successfully pinpointed the Rf1 gene's location to a region of 59 Kb, narrowing down candidate genes but suggesting further analysis may uncover additional candidates not present in the reference genome of cytoplasmic male sterility maintainer lines.

As a result of the accident at the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant, significant territories were exposed to ionizing radiation. Some isotopes, such as Cs, are capable of making a significant impact on living organisms in the long-term perspective. The generation of reactive oxygen species is one mechanism by which ionizing radiation affects living organisms, initiating mechanisms of antioxidant protection.

Late blight is one of the most economically important diseases affecting potato and causing a significant loss in yield. The development of transgenic potato plants with enhanced resistance to infection by may represent a possible approach to solving this issue. A comparative study of the leaf response in control potato plants ( L.

Tocopherols are antioxidants that preserve oil lipids against oxidation and serve as a natural source of vitamin E in the human diet. Compared with other major oilseeds like rapeseed and soybean, sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.) exhibits low phenotypic diversity of tocopherol composition, both in wild and cultivated accessions from germplasm collections.

An assay was developed to detect the potato spindle tuber viroid (PSTVd), a dangerous plant pathogen that causes crop damage resulting in economic losses in the potato agriculture sector. The assay was based on the reverse transcription and recombinase polymerase amplification (RT-RPA) of PSTVd RNA coupled with amplicon detection via lateral flow assay (LFA). Primers labeled with fluorescein and biotin were designed for RT-RPA for effective recognition of the loop regions in the high-structured circular RNA of PSTVd.
