We developed a technique allowing the direct observation of photoinduced charge-transfer states (CTSs)-the weakly coupled electron-hole pairs preceding the completely separated charges in organic photovoltaic (OPV) blends. Quadrature detection of the electron spin echo (ESE) signal enables the observation of an out-of-phase ESE signal of CTS. The out-of-phase Electron-Electron Double Resonance (ELDOR) allows measuring electron-hole distance distributions within CTS and its temporal evolution in the microsecond range.

Mean lifetime of diffusing particle in cylindrical cavity with absorbing spots of arbitrary radii on its bases.

This paper deals with the trapping of a particle diffusing in a cylindrical cavity by two circular absorbing spots of arbitrary radii located in the centers of the cavity bases. The focus is on the mean particle lifetime, which is its mean first-passage time to one of the spots. When the spots are small and their radii are well below the cavity radius, this time can be analyzed using the narrow escape (NE) theory, which describes it as a function of the spot radii and the only parameter of the cavity, its volume, independent of the cavity shape and the particle initial position.

Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is a genetic cardiac disorder associated with an increased risk of arrhythmias, heart failure, and sudden cardiac death. Current imaging and clinical markers are not fully sufficient in accurate diagnosis and patient risk stratification. Although known cardiac biomarkers in blood are used, they lack specificity for HCM and primarily stratify for death due to heart failure in overt cases.

Mobility and community at Mesolithic Lake Onega, Karelia, north-west Russia: insights from strontium isotope analysis.

Novel automated method to assess group dynamics reveals deficits in behavioral contagion in rats with social deficits.

Behavioral copying is a key process in group actions, but it is challenging for individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). We investigated behavioral contagion, or instinctual replication of behaviors, in Krushinky-Molodkina (KM) rats ( = 16), a new potential rodent model for ASD, compared to control Wistar rats ( = 15). A randomly chosen healthy Wistar male ("demonstrator rat") was introduced to the homecage of experimental rats ("observers") 10-14 days before the experiments to become a member of the group.

Developing Chlorin/Arylaminoquinazoline Conjugates with Nanomolar Activity for Targeted Photodynamic Therapy: Design, Synthesis, SAR, and Biological Evaluation.

In this report, we developed novel chlorin/arylaminoquinazoline conjugates for targeted photodynamic therapy of cancer. The synthesized photosensitizers consisted of chlorin- metallocomplexes (Zn, In, or Pd) conjugated with arylaminoquinazoline ligands with high affinity for epidermal growth factor receptors (EGFR). Additionally, the selectivity and antitumor properties of the conjugates were investigated in the EGFR-expressing A431 human tumor cell line .

Experimental and Computational NMR Studies of Large Alkaloids Exemplified With Vindoline Trimer: Advantages and Limitations.

The complete H and C NMR assignments of a trimeric vindoline together with its individual components, dimeric vindolicine and monomeric vindoline, are performed based on a thorough analysis of the ROESY, COSY, HSQC, and HMBC spectra in combination with the state-of-the-art quantum-chemical calculations. A spatial structure of vindoline trimer is determined by means of computational conformational analysis in combination with the probability distribution map of its basic conformers. On the example of monoterpene indole alkaloid, the trimer vindoline, the present study reveals the power of modern computational NMR to perform identification and stereochemical studies of large natural compounds with some limitations, which may arise in the quantum chemical computing workflow.

Ferritin-based hybrids are large 24-subunit macromolecules of megadalton scale have prospective applications ranging from drug delivery to recombinant vaccines, however, their rational design is challenging. Here, we architectured hybrids based on ferritin subunits from Helicobacter pylori and ones fused with a homolog of the Small Ubiquitin-like Modifier protein. We firstly revealed the stochastic nature of bacterial ferritin-based hybrids self-assembly by observing a sequential range of stoichiometries at totally different sample preparation procedures: coexpression in Escherichia coli cells and pH-dependent dis/reassembly.

Directed synthesis of novel water-soluble asymmetric porphyrins containing in a molecule three cationic fragments and residues of adenine (PorAD) was performed, using metal-complex catalysis method. The interaction of the synthesized porphyrin with the oligonucleotides poly[d(AT)2] and poly[d(GC)2] and double-stranded deoxyribonucleic acid of the calf thymus (ctDNA) was studied by means of spectral and hydrodynamic methods. It was established that PorAD intercalated not only into GC-enriched regions, but also into AT regions.

The effect of essential oils (EOs) of 22 species and varieties of essential oil plants on the mental performance of elderly people when they inhaled air containing EOs in a gaseous state at a concentration of 1 mg/m3 of air was studied. For the study, a word recognition test with missing letters and a proofreading test were used. It has been established that recognition of words with missing letters is stimulated for a short (10-20 min) duration of exposure to EOs, and then the effect fades away.

The purpose of the work is to assess the possibility of a unified digital circuit in providing operational monitoring of carbohydrate metabolism in middle-aged, elderly and senile people in the context of COVID-19. The article describes the forms, causes and consequences of insomnia in the elderly. It shows the clinical features of dyssomnic disorders in comorbid depressive and anxiety disorders, as the most common mental pathology of old age. The approaches of Russian and foreign authors to the diagnosis and treatment of insomnia in the elderly are considered.

[Determination of the goals of therapeutic control of type 2 diabetes mellitus in elderly patients using a digital clinical calculator.].

According to the federal register, up to 3,77 million elderly Russians have a confirmed diagnosis of type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM2), the most important criterion for the effectiveness of treatment of which is the achievement of therapeutic control targets. At the same time, the structure of the algorithm for their assessment in elderly patients is quite complex and involves the analysis of many different parameters, including indicators of geriatric status. The aim of the study was to develop a digital clinical calculator for determining individual goals of DM2 control in elderly patients based on the principles of evidence-based medicine.

The topic of the timing of the manifestation of age-associated diseases (as an indirect indicator of accelerated population aging) after the transfer of COVID-19 remains an urgent area in scientific research. Early targeted diagnosis can significantly reduce the consequences of pathology, in connection with which the features of the manifestation of various nosologies in the post-COVID period were studied. The materials were the accounting and statistical data of the municipal polyclinics of the Sakhalin Region for the pre-COVID (2017-2019) and post-COVID (2022-2023) periods.

The review presents the results of long-term research conducted by the staff of the Saint-Petersburg Institute of Bioregulation and Gerontology, dedicated to the study of the biological activity of peptide bioregulators at all levels of a living organism's organization. This review compares the findings of domestic and international studies in this field. At the same time, the priority of Russian scientists in the use of buccal epithelium as a diagnostic marker of age-associated pathology is indicated.

Cellular aging is the inability of structures to proliferate (further division) and repair damage while maintaining metabolic activity. The key well-known factors of cellular aging are the processes of DNA damage, telomere shortening, the development of oxidative stress and epigenetic changes. The above factors provoke the development of a pro-inflammatory environment, leading to errors in gene expression and metabolic dysregulation, thereby affecting the development of age-related diseases that contribute to pathological changes in the functions of tissues and organs.

Neuroinvasive West Nile viruses and HIV activate expression of alpha-synuclein.

[Russian and European experience in implementing the concept of active longevity.].

The article presents an analysis of the medical, demographic and socio-economic conditions for the implementation of the active longevity policy in Russia and European countries. Based on statistical data from Rosstat, OECD Statistics, UNECE Statistical Database and Eurostat, the peculiarities of the aging of population and the non-standard age profile of wages in Russia are demonstrated. The Russian and European experience of implementing the ideas of the concept of active longevity is considered, on the basis of which the features and main trends in this area are highlighted.
