Background: Upfront 2-stent techniques are often used in bifurcation percutaneous coronary interventions (PCI), but there is controversy about optimal strategy selection.

Methods: The authors examined the clinical and angiographic characteristics and long-term outcomes of 232 bifurcation PCIs that were performed using the double kissing (DK) crush or culotte technique in 216 patients between 2014 and 2023 using data from the Prospective Global Registry for the Study of Bifurcation Lesion Interventions (NCT05100992). The inverse probability of treatment weighted (IPTW) Cox proportional hazards model was used to assess long-term outcomes.

Cluster analysis of sarcopenia in older adults: significant factors contributing to disease severity.

Eur Geriatr Med

January 2025

Federal State Autonomous Educational Institution of Higher Education "Russian National Research Medical University named after N.I. Pirogov" of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, Separate structural unit "Russian Gerontology Research and Clinical Centre", 16 1st Leonova Street, Moscow, Russia, 129226.

Introduction: The European Working Group on Sarcopenia in Older People (EWGSOP2) defines sarcopenia as a muscle disease (muscle failure) rooted in adverse muscle changes that accrue across a lifetime; sarcopenia is common among adults of older age. New findings on the hormonal and metabolic characteristics of patients with sarcopenia have aided in developing more targeted therapeutic strategies. However, treating older patients with sarcopenia still poses a number of challenges.

Numerous cities in the Russian Federation have joined the World Health Organization's (WHO) Global Network for Age-Friendly Cities and Communities since 2011. In order to do quantitative evaluations of the age-friendliness of cities, the Age-Friendly Cities and Communities Questionnaire (AFCCQ) was developed in the Netherlands. The purpose of this study was to translate and test the validity and reliability of the AFCCQ for use in the Russian Federation, and to study the views on the age-friendliness of the city of Kazan in the Republic of Tatarstan from an intergenerational perspective.

Palladium catalysts form a cornerstone of modern chemistry with upmost scientific and industrial impact. Bulk palladium metal itself is chemically inert, and a sequence of chemical transformations has to be utilized to convert the metal into Pd pre-catalyst covered by ligands. However, the "cocktail" of catalysis concept discovered recently has shown that Pd systems can efficiently operate in catalysis without the necessity of a complicated and expensive pre-installed ligand environment.

Public awareness of telephone number for medical emergencies: a scoping review.

Clin Exp Emerg Med

January 2025

Department of General Surgery, Anaesthesiology, Resuscitation and Emergency Medicine, Medical Institute named after S.I. Georgievsky of V.I. Vernadsky Crimean Federal University, Simferopol, Russian Federation.

Objectives: Prompt activation of emergency medical services (EMS) constitutes the fundamental component of bystander response to time-dependent health crises. A clear understanding of the public ability to access EMS may help to guide interventions aimed at enhancing community preparedness for emergencies. This review was conducted to summarise studies that examined public knowledge of emergency phone numbers.

The representatives of the archamoebian genus Pelomyxa are amoeboid anaerobic protists that inhabit fresh-water anoxic sediments, and most of them are usually multinucleate. The cytoplasm of these unicellular organisms is highly complicated and contains numerous vacuoles of different types, as well as a wide range of prokaryotic endocytobionts, agglomerations of glycogen, lipids, etc. Among the great variety of cytoplasmic structures in P.

Ultrasound can improve the quality of finished products by reducing porosity and enhancing microstructure in selective laser melting, directed energy deposition, and laser beam welding. This study evaluates the efficiency of ultrasound produced by a pulsed laser via the optoacoustic effect. A quantitative model of collapse of vapor-gas bubbles has been developed under the conditions of ultrasonic treatment at near resonance frequencies.

Spectroscopic aspects of underwater digital holography of plankton.

Sci Rep

January 2025

Laboratory for Radiophysical and Optical Methods of Environmental Research, National Research Tomsk State University, Tomsk, Russia, 634050.

Monitoring the parameters and behavior of plankton makes it possible to assess the state of the aquatic ecosystem and detect the beginning of an environmental disaster at an early stage. In this respect, the most informative method for the in situ plankton study is underwater digital holography. This method allows obtaining information on the size, shape, and location of plankton individuals, as well as performing their classification and biotesting according to their behavioral responses using a submersible holographic camera non-invasively, in real time, and in the automatic mode.

We derive the compact closed forms of local quantum uncertainty (LQU) and local quantum Fisher information (LQFI) for hybrid qubit-qutrit axially symmetric (AS) states. This allows us to study the quantum correlations in detail and present some essentially novel results for spin-(1/2, 1) systems, the Hamiltonian of which contains ten independent types of physically important parameters. As an application of the derived formulas, we study the behavior of these two quantum correlation measures at thermal equilibrium.

Increased screen time (ST) among preschool children is becoming a matter of concern globally. Although gadgets such as phones, tablets and computers might be of educational use in this population, excessive ST might impair cognitive function among preschoolers. As data on this topic in preschool children are scarce, this study sought to investigate the relationship between ST and executive functions (EFs) in this population.

UV-irradiation is a stress factor for proteins, leading to disruption of their native structure. Test systems based on UV-irradiated proteins are relevant for researchers, as they allow working directly with damaged protein molecules, which can be important when studying the properties and mechanisms of action of various antiaggregation agents. The study of UV-irradiated proteins can also have applied significance, including medical.

Structural and photoelectric properties of p-i-n photodiodes based on GeSiSn/Si multiple quantum dots both on Si and silicon-on-insulator (SOI) substrates were investigated. Elastic strained state of grown films was demonstrated by x-ray diffractometry. Annealing of p-i-n structures before the mesa fabrication can improve the ideality factor of current-voltage characteristics.

Lumpy skin disease (LSD) is an emerging, highly contagious transboundary disease of bovines caused by the Lumpy skin disease virus (LSDV), responsible for substantial economic losses to the dairy, meat, and leather industries in Pakistan as well as various countries around the world. Epidemiological information on LSD is scarce in Punjab, Pakistan. Therefore, a molecular epidemiological study was conducted in two agro-ecologically diverse districts (Bhakkar and Jhang) of Punjab, Pakistan.

A series of cyclometalated Au(III) complexes [Au(C^N^C)(C-L-P(O)Ph)] with C^N^C = 2,6-diphenylpyridine and alkynylphosphine oxide ligands (L = no linker, Au1; phenyl, Au2; biphenyl, Au3; naphthyl, Au4; anthracenyl, Au5) were synthesized and fully characterized by spectroscopic methods and single crystal XRD analysis. The complexes obtained exhibit triplet (Au1-Au3) and dual (Au4, Au5) emissions in solution, in the solid phase and in the PMMA film, whose characteristics depend on the linker's nature of the alkynylphosphine oxide ligand. The description of electronic transitions responsible for energy absorption and emission in Au(III) complexes was made on the basis of a detailed analysis of the results of DFT calculations and has shown to involve ILCT, LLCT and MLCT transitions of singlet and triplet nature.

Inducing multiple neurobehavioural and neurochemical deficits, olfactory bulbectomy (OBX) has been developed as a rodent model of depression with potential for antidepressant drug screening. However, the generality of this model in other vertebrate taxa remains poorly understood. A small freshwater teleost fish, the zebrafish (Danio rerio), is rapidly becoming a common model species in neuroscience research.
