Palmitic and oleic VLDL (>80% total VLDL) are not converted in low density lipoproteins (LDL). Atherosclerosis is not an alimentary deficiency of polyenic fatty acids (PFA), but results from low in vivo bioavailability of PFA in LDL against the background of high dietary palmitic FA and palmitic LDL.

Collagen is one of the most promising materials for 3D bioprinting because of its distinguished biocompatibility. Cell-laden constructs made of pure collagen with or without incorporated growth supplements support engineered constructs persistence in culture and are perfectly suitable for grafting. The limiting factor for direct 3D collagen printing was poor printability of collagen solutions, especially admixed with cells or tissue spheroids.

Background: An elevated lipoprotein(a) (Lp(a)) level is observed in more than 30% of patients with stable ischemic heart disease (SIHD). We conducted an investigation of the effects of specific Lp(a) apheresis on the progression of atherosclerosis in SIHD patients with Lp(a) levels greater than 50 mg/dL.
Methods: We prospectively enrolled 15 patients diagnosed with SIHD based on symptom-driven coronary angiography findings, with Lp(a) ≥50 mg/dL and a low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) ≤2.

Se-containing glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) is one of the key enzymes of the body's antioxidant system. The kinetic characteristics of GSH-Px (substrate is tert-butyl hydroperoxide) after modification of the enzyme by various concentrations of natural dicarbonyls (glyoxal, methylglyoxal, malonic dialdehyde) were studied. It was shown that dicarbonyls affected both K and V for GSH-Px.

Background: Bococizumab is a humanized monoclonal antibody that inhibits proprotein convertase subtilisin-kexin type 9 (PCSK9) and reduces levels of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol. We sought to evaluate the efficacy of bococizumab in patients at high cardiovascular risk.
Methods: In two parallel, multinational trials with different entry criteria for LDL cholesterol levels, we randomly assigned the 27,438 patients in the combined trials to receive bococizumab (at a dose of 150 mg) subcutaneously every 2 weeks or placebo.

This review discusses and summarizes the results of molecular and cellular investigations of myosin light chain kinase (MLCK, MYLK1), the key regulator of cell motility. The structure and regulation of a complex mylk1 gene and the domain organization of its products is presented. The interactions of the mylk1 gene protein products with other proteins and posttranslational modifications of the mylk1 gene protein products are reviewed, which altogether might determine the role and place of MLCK in physiological and pathological reactions of cells and entire organisms.

Aim: To study the association of polymorphisms in the IL2RA and TNFRSF1A genes with severity and early clinical manifestations of remitted multiple sclerosis (MS).
Material And Methods: Five hundred and eight patients of Russian ethnicity with bout-onset MS were genotyped for IL7RA (rs6897932), IL2RA (rs2104286) and TNFRSF1A (rs1800693) polymorphisms. Association analysis of the gene variants with disease severity, variants of MS manifestation, and first remission duration was performed.

It is shown that endothelial cells from human umbilical vein have a reduced activity and gene expression of the "classic" antioxidant enzymes (Cu,Zn-superoxide dismutase, catalase, and Se-containing glutathione peroxidase). At the same time, a high expression level of peroxiredoxin genes was identified in the same endothelial cells, which obviously indicates the predominant involvement of these enzymes in protecting the endothelium from the damaging effect of free radical peroxidation.

We studied the composition of circulating immune complexes precipitated in the presence of various concentrations of polyethylene glycol in patients with coronary heart disease (CHD) and high concentration of lipoprotein(a) - Lp(a). Precipitation of highly purified Lp(a) preparation with polyethylene glycol was evaluated. The contents of Lp(a), autoantibodies to Lp(a), IgG, and IgM in circulating immune complexes isolated from the sera of donors and CHD patients with normal and high levels of Lp(a) were measured.

Myosin light chain kinase (MLCK) is a key regulator of various forms of cell motility including smooth muscle contraction, cell migration, cytokinesis, receptor capping, secretion, etc. Inhibition of MLCK activity in endothelial and epithelial monolayers using cell-permeant peptide Arg-Lys-Lys-Tyr-Lys-Tyr-Arg-Arg-Lys (PIK, Peptide Inhibitor of Kinase) allows protecting the barrier capacity, suggesting a potential medical use of PIK. However, low stability of L-PIK in a biological milieu prompts for development of more stable L-PIK analogues for use as experimental tools in basic and drug-oriented biomedical research.

D-fructose strongly stimulates peroxidation of natural lipid-protein supramolecular complexes in vitro regardless of the oxidation initiation method. Fructose (ketose) intensifies free radical peroxidation to a much greater extent than glucose (aldose), which is important for the etiology and pathogenesis of diabetes mellitus.

During phylogenesis, all fatty acids (FA) were initially transported to cells by apoA-I high-density lipoproteins (HDL) in polar lipids. Later, active cellular uptake of saturated, monoenoic and unsaturated FA occurred via triglycerides (TG) in low-density lipoproteins (LDL). Objective: This study assessed the value of modern medical treatment (MMT) with and without carotid endarterectomy (CEA) in patients with asymptomatic severe carotid artery stenosis.
Methods: We conducted a randomized trial involving 55 patients with 70% to 79% carotid stenosis at three Russian centers. Between 2009 and 2013, 31 patients were randomized to undergo CEA with MMT (CEA group) and 24 to receive MMT alone.
