Under the collective threat of war, the 2022 Russian invasion would be expected to unify Ukrainians across distinct ethnic, linguistic, geographic and generational identities. Here, we show this using survey data collected in Belarus and Ukraine before and after the full-fledged invasion of Ukraine by Russia. Using our data collection waves from spring and summer of 2022, we observed attitudinal changes rarely documented before and after such an event.

Objective: Preeclampsia is a major pregnancy complication that results in significant maternal and infant mortality and morbidity, yet difficulties remain in the diagnosis of preeclampsia based on clinical parameters alone. The objective was to assess the performance of a hand-held point-of-care (POC) immunoassay in a clinical environment for glycosylated fibronectin (GlyFn) for the prediction of preeclampsia within 4 weeks of sampling.
Methods: Multinational European prospective observational pilot study of predominantly high-risk patients in the second half of pregnancy to assess a point-of-care immunoassay for GlyFn in predicting preeclampsia within 4 weeks of sampling.

The regulatory mechanisms underlying fruit ripening, including hormone regulation, transcription factor activity, and epigenetic modifications, have been discussed extensively. Nonetheless, the role of long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) in fruit ripening remains unclear. Here, we identified lncRNA1471 as a negative regulator of tomato fruit-ripening initiation.

Interaction of dimeric 14-3-3 proteins with phosphotargets regulates various physiological processes in plants, from flowering to transpiration and salt tolerance. Several genes express distinct 14-3-3 "isoforms," particularly numerous in plants, but these are unevenly studied even in model species. Here we systematically investigated twelve 14-3-3 isoforms from Arabidopsis thaliana.

Background: Infectious diseases, including malaria, Hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg), and Hepatitis C virus (HCV), remain significant public health concerns in developing regions like Lafia, Nasarawa State, Nigeria. Socio-demographic factors, such as gender, age, income level, and access to healthcare resources, have been shown to influence the prevalence and outcomes of these diseases. Despite their importance, there is limited research exploring the interrelationship between these infections and socio-demographic factors within this region.

Ionic crosslinking and Schiff base are employed to construct hydrogel wound dressings. However, the contributions of these crosslinking to the swelling behavior and adhesion performance of hydrogels are still unclear. Here, double-crosslinking chitosan hydrogel (DCH) is designed via catechol-Fe coordination and Schiff base between catechol modified chitosan and oxidized chitosan.

N-methyl-D-aspartate receptors (NMDARs) are involved in the pathophysiology of depression and are inhibited by many antidepressants. In this work, we studied the action of the vortioxetine, a relatively new multitarget antidepressant, on native NMDARs in rat hippocampal CA1 pyramidal neurons and compared it to the action of structurally similar antidepressant fluoxetine. Vortioxetine inhibited these receptors with IC value of 11±1 μM at -80 mV holding voltage, being about three-fold more potent than fluoxetine in these conditions.

Bioreactor-grown plant cells have emerged as a sustainable, high-quality source of plant biomass and bioactive phytochemicals alternative to overcollection of pharmaceutically important wild plant species. At the same time, concerns were raised about the potential biosynthetic instability of plant cell cultures during long-term bioreactor cultivation, which was rarely investigated. In this work, this concern was addressed by performing the first long-term (1.

In experiments conducted on Wistar rats, the effects of the multifunctional cytokine TGF-β1 were investigated using a neurodegeneration model induced by a single injection of the neurotoxicant trimethyltin chloride (TMT). Animals in the experimental group received intranasal administration of TGF-β1 on days 7 and 9 following TMT injection. Behavioral tests were performed to assess cognitive function, and three weeks after TMT administration, hippocampal morphology was analyzed using Nissl staining.

Two-spotted spider mite Tetranychus urticae Koch (Acari: Tetranychidae) is one of the most dangerous pests in the world and one of the most pesticide-resistant species ever. Complex biological preparations are of great interest for the acaricide market because they do not poison ecosystems and do not bioaccumulate in food products, simultaneously, pests more slowly develop resistance to complex preparations. In this study we applied complex bioformulation composed of 11-mer antisense oligonucleotide (oligonucleotide acaricide or DNA acaricide) Tur-3 and fungus Metarhizium robertsii for T.

Background: Incorrect inhalation technique is one of the most common reasons for the ineffectiveness of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) therapy, increasing the frequency of exacerbations. Selection of treatment based on Peak Inspiratory Flow (PIF) measurements or predictors of suboptimal PIF (sPIF) could optimize therapy in patients with COPD. The goal of this study was to investigate a prevalence and predictors of sPIF in hospitalized patients with acute exacerbation of COPD in clinical practice.

Introduction: Fluorescent lymphography-guided lymph node dissection (FL) using indocyanine green (ICG) during radical gastrectomy for gastric cancer has shown enhanced lymph node (LN) retrieval and high sensitivity in detecting LN metastases. However, the impact of FL during gastrectomy following chemotherapy remains uncertain because changes in the ICG injection site due to tumor shrinkage may potentially visualize different lymphatic drainage from the tumor. This study aimed to assess the diagnostic performance of FL during gastrectomy after preoperative chemotherapy.

Tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs) play a pivotal role in the tumor microenvironment (TME), actively contributing to the formation of an immunosuppressive niche that fosters tumor progression. Consequently, there has been a growing interest in targeting TAMs as a promising avenue for cancer therapy. Recent advances in the field of immunometabolism have shed light on the influence of metabolic adaptations on macrophage physiology in the context of cancer.

Evanescently coupled waveguide arrays provide a tabletop platform to realize a variety of Hamiltonians, where physical waveguides correspond to the individual sites of a tight-binding lattice. Nontrivial spatial structure of the waveguide modes enriches this picture and uncovers further possibilities. Here, we demonstrate that the effective coupling between -like modes of adjacent photonic waveguides changes its sign depending on their relative orientation vanishing for proper alignment at a so-called .

Mutations in the gene cause developmental disorders (OMIM#309530) accompanied by epileptic encephalopathy, movement disorders, dysmorphic facial features, autism spectrum disorders and intellectual disability. The IQSEC2 protein controls excitatory synaptic transmission, regulating responses mediated by glutamate receptors at excitatory synapses, and it is also involved in transmembrane transport, lipid transformation and actin cytoskeleton reorganization, playing an important role in learning processes and memory mechanisms. Polymorphic epileptic seizures that occur at an early age contribute to developmental regression; they are pharma-resistant.

Many variants of the gene are described in various neuromuscular, psychoneurological, congenital abnormalities, and malignancies. In this clinical case, the correlation of clinical manifestations with molecular genetic changes of the gene was evaluated.

Objective: To develop mathematical models at the population level to assess the relationship of incidence and prevalence of borderline mental disorders (BMD) of the Russian population with demographic, socio-economic factors and the human resources of mental health care in 1992-2022.
Material And Methods: We used official demographic and socio-economic data at the population level, as well as analytical data from specialized medical and research institutions. Methods of systemic data analysis and statistical analysis were used to develop linear models of the relationship between the factors and BMD incidence rates.
