Expanded and Independent Spanish Validation of the MDS-Non Motor Rating Scale.

Background: The Movement Disorder Society-sponsored Non-motor Rating Scale (MDS-NMS) assess the severity and disability caused by non-motor symptoms (NMS) in Parkinson's disease (PD).

Objective: This article encapsulates the formal process for completing this program and the data on the first officially approved non-English version of the MDS-NMS (Spanish).

Methods: The MDS-NMS translation program involves four steps: translation and back-translation; cognitive pre-testing to ensure that raters and patients understand the scale and are comfortable with its content; field testing of the finalized version; analysis of the factor structure of the tested version against the original English language version for the nine domains that could be analyzed in a confirmatory factor analysis.

Stability and change in acculturation-related characteristics in older Latinos: Implications for culturally compatible ADRD research.

Introduction: Acculturation-related characteristics, that is, factors directly connected to culture and familial relationships, are associated with engaged research participation within Latino communities. Despite this, little empirical data exists on whether acculturation changes over time in older Latinos, which has potential implications for Alzheimer's disease and related dementias (ADRD) research study design including longer duration clinical trial implementation.

Methods: Self-identified Latinos ( = 222; mean age = 71, 76% female) participating in one of three ongoing longitudinal community-based cohort studies of aging who reported their nativity outside of the United States/District of Columbia (US/DC) contributed, on average, 4.

Background: Point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) is increasingly utilized in emergency medicine (EM). While residents are required by the Accreditation Council for General Medical Education to complete a minimum of 150 POCUS examinations before graduation, the distribution of examination types is not well-described. This study sought to assess the number and distribution of POCUS examinations completed during EM residency training and evaluate trends over time.

Harmonization and standardization of nucleus pulposus cell extraction and culture methods.

Background: In vitro studies using nucleus pulposus (NP) cells are commonly used to investigate disc cell biology and pathogenesis, or to aid in the development of new therapies. However, lab-to-lab variability jeopardizes the much-needed progress in the field. Here, an international group of spine scientists collaborated to standardize extraction and expansion techniques for NP cells to reduce variability, improve comparability between labs and improve utilization of funding and resources.

A Longitudinal Study of Acculturation in Context and Cardiovascular Health and Their Effects on Cognition Among Older Latino Adults.

Background We previously outlined the importance of considering acculturation within the context of older Latino adults' lived experience (ie, acculturation in context) to better capture contributors to cognitive aging. We now examine this conceptual framework as related to level of and change in cardiovascular health, and whether cardiovascular health modifies previously documented associations of acculturation in context with cognition. Methods and Results Acculturation in context data from 192 Latino participants without dementia at baseline (age ~70 years) were compiled into 3 separate composite scores: acculturation-related (nativity, language-, and social-based preferences), contextually related socioenvironmental (experiences of discrimination, social isolation, social networks), and familism-related (Latino-centric family ethos).

Rating Scales for Medication Adherence in Parkinson's Disease: A Systematic Review for Critique and Recommendations.

Background: Behaviors interfering with medication adherence (MA) are common and often complex in Parkinson's disease (PD), negatively affecting quality of life and undermining the value of clinical trials. The Clinical Outcome Assessments (COA) Scientific Evaluation Committee of the International Parkinson and Movement Disorder Society (MDS) commissioned the assessment of MA rating scales to recommend the use in PD.

Objective: Critically review the measurement properties of rating scales used to assess MA in PD and to issue recommendations.

Grip strength, gait speed, and trajectories of cognitive function in community-dwelling older adults: A prospective study.

Introduction: This study investigated whether grip strength and gait speed predict cognitive aging trajectories and examined potential sex-specific associations.

Methods: Community-dwelling older adults ( = 19,114) were followed for up to 7 years, with regular assessment of global function, episodic memory, psychomotor speed, and executive function. Group-based multi-trajectory modeling identified joint cognitive trajectories.

Objectives: Scholarship is a requirement of residency training; however, the scholarly productivity of trainees is highly variable. The purpose of this study was to explore the perspectives of residents who have been highly productive in scholarship.

Methods: We performed a qualitative study using a constructivist-interpretivist paradigm and conducted semistructured interviews at seven Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education-accredited emergency medicine residency programs in the United States.

Surveys are descriptive assessment tools. Like other assessment tools, the validity and reliability of the data obtained from surveys depend, in large part, on the rigor of the development process. Genital monkeypox superimposed on co-incident sexually transmitted infections in AIDS patient; a case report.

Monkeypox outbreaks were, until recently, mostly confined to Africa but a currently expanding worldwide outbreak has recently been designated a global emergency by the World Health Organization. Genital manifestation is common and can be confused with sexually transmitted infection (STI), posing a diagnostic challenge. We herein report a case of genital monkeypox superimposed on multiple co-incident STIs in a HIV patient and describe characteristic clinical findings and management.
