Aim: The purpose of this study was to evaluate and compare the effectiveness of phytic acid and ethylendiamine tetraacetic acid (EDTA) in the removal of calcium ion from radicular dentin during endodontic procedure.

Materials And Methods: Twenty-five single-rooted mandibular premolar teeth were decoronated, and the roots were split longitudinally into two halves. Among obtained specimens, 45 specimens were randomly selected and divided into three groups ( = 15): Group 1 - distilled water, Group 2 - 17% EDTA, and Group 3 - 1% phytic acid.

Background: Substantivity is one of the desirable characteristics of root canal irrigants. Among conventional endodontic irrigants, only chlorhexidine (CHX) is known to exert significant substantivity on root canal dentin. This study explored the substantivity activity of a polymeric biguanide-poly hexamethylene biguanide (PHMB).

Objective: This study was undertaken to investigate the prevalence of intraosseous jaw lesions among pediatrics (0-15 years of age) in a rural health-care center of Maharashtra and to determine the most common types of lesions and their distribution according to gender and anatomical site involved.

Study Design: Histopathological data were collected from a database of lesions classified as intraosseous jaw lesions dated between January 1, 2005, and December 31, 2015, from the archives of the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Rural Dental College, Maharashtra, India. All the cases of jaw cysts and tumors among children under 16 years of age group were segregated and scrutinized further under the headings of type of pathologies, anatomical locations where they are most commonly seen, and the age/gender most pertinent to these pathologies.

To evaluate the management of sub-condylar and angle of mandible fracture by a trans-buccal trocar along with an intra-oral approach. Study parameters included were assessment of adequacy of anatomical repositioning, fixation and stability of fracture site by radiographs, pre and post - operative occlusion by photographs. Evaluation of anatomical repositioning was done with fracture gap measurement on orthopantomogram after 6 months by applying paired student's T test.

Aim: The aim of this study was to compare the efficacy of CanalBrush (CB), EndoActivator (EA), and Passive Ultrasonic Irrigation (PUI) on the removal of triple antibiotic paste (TAP) from root canal walls.

Materials And Methods: Thirty-six extracted human single-rooted teeth were prepared using ProTaper Universal rotary files (DentsplyMaillefer, Ballaigues, Switzerland) up to size F5. The root canals were filled with TAP, and after 21 days, roots were randomly assigned to three groups ( = 10) according to irrigation regimens used: CB, EA, and PUI.

Background: The chances of extrusion of mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) are quite high if apical barrier is not present in immature pulpless permanent teeth. Platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) enriched with platelets and growth factors serves to accelerate the wound healing of periapical lesion in immature pulpless permanent teeth and also serves as internal matrix to condense MTA.

Aim: The aim of the present study was to comprehensively review the clinical success of MTA+PRF in healing of periapical lesions in immature pulpless permanent teeth.

Contemp Clin Dent

January 2019

Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology, C.S.M.S.S. Dental College, Aurangabad, Maharashtra, India.

Solitary bone cyst (SBC) is an uncommon, nonneoplastic osseous lesion that mainly affects metaphysis of long bones and rarely presents in jaws. Due to the lack of true epithelial lining, it is considered as a pseudocyst. It is generally asymptomatic and often discovered incidentally during routine radiographic examination as well-defined unilocular or multilocular radiolucent lesion in the posterior mandible mainly in the first two decades of life.

Background: The extraction of tooth being the most common procedure in oral surgery should be pain free with limited dosage and limited needlepricks. Articaine being unique among amide local anesthetics contains a thiophene group, which increases its liposolubility, and an ester group which helps biotransformation in plasma. Because of the high diffusion properties, it can be used as a single buccal infiltration to extract a maxillary tooth.

Background: The management of mandibular condylar fracture remains controversial many surgeons still favour the open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) which provides good result and immediate functioning as compared to closed reduction. With proven consensus for ORIF, dilemma remains in choosing the surgical approach to condyle due to proximity of complex and important anatomic structure. Various extra-oral surgical approaches are available for ORIF including preauricular, submandibular, retromandibular, transmasseteric anteroparotid etc.
