Endoscopic resection of Intralabyrinthine Schwannoma followed by Cochlear implantation.

We present the case of a 65 years old patient who developed a complete, sensorineural hearing loss on the right side due to an intravestibular schwannoma. Our video shows a transcanal, endoscopic approach with complete schwannoma removal on the right side, subsequent e-BERA recordings, and cochlear implantation.

Outcome after liver resection for primary and recurrent intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma.

Background: Liver resection is the only curative therapeutic option for intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC), but the approach to recurrent ICC is controversial. This study analysed the outcome of liver resection in patients with recurrent ICC.

Methods: Demographic, radiological, clinical, operative, surgical pathological and follow-up data for all patients with a final surgical pathological diagnosis of ICC treated in a tertiary referral centre between 2001 and 2015 were collected retrospectively and analysed.

Target refraction for best uncorrected distance and near vision in cataract surgery.

Purpose: To assess the target refractive error after cataract surgery to achieve best uncorrected visual acuity for both distance vision and reading vision.

Methods: The study included patients consecutively undergoing routine phacoemulsification with clear corneal incisions and implantation of a foldable monofocal intraocular lens (IOL). Uncorrected distance visual acuity (UCDVA), best-corrected distance visual acuity (BCDVA), uncorrected near visual acuity (UCNVA,) and best-corrected near visual acuity were measured at 93 ± 47 days (minimum 4 weeks) after surgery.

Intravitreal steroid slow-release device replacing repeated intravitreal triamcinolone injections for sympathetic ophthalmia.

Purpose: To report on the intraocular use of a steroid slow-release device in an attempt to avoid multiple intraocular triamcinolone injections in chronic sympathetic ophthalmia.

Methods: A 47-year-old patient with sympathetic ophthalmia had received 17 intravitreal triamcinolone injections to suppress the uveitis, to increase intraocular pressure, and to reduce systemic anti-inflammatory medication. Frequency of cataract surgery after intravitreal injection of high-dosage triamcinolone acetonide.

Purpose: To evaluate the frequency of cataract surgery after intravitreal injection of high-dosage triamcinolone acetonide in elderly patients.

Methods: This clinical interventional case series study included 144 phakic eyes that consecutively received an intravitreal injection of about 20 mg triamcinolone acetonide for diffuse diabetic macular edema (n=42 eyes), exudative age-related macular degeneration (n=98), and branch retinal vein occlusion (n=4). Comparison of Nd : YAG capsulotomy rates following phacoemulsification with implantation of PMMA, silicone, or acrylic intra-ocular lenses in four European countries.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to compare the incidence of Nd : YAG laser capsulotomy after cataract surgery according to the type of intra-ocular lens material (PMMA, silicone, hydrophilic acrylic, hydrophobic acrylic) implanted in four European countries (France, Italy, Germany, Spain).

Design: A retrospective record review.

Participants: A review of 1525 patients (first operated eye), aged 50 to 80 years, operated on for cataract in 1996 or 1997 in 16 surgical centers (4 per country).
