Objective: To evaluate the reduction of microbial loading using , , and as irrigating agents in deciduous molars after pulpectomy.

Materials And Methods: A controlled, randomized clinical trial involving 150 multirooted deciduous molars from both genders between 6 and 9 years old children were included, 30 molars irrigated with (group I), Triphala (group II), (group III), chlorhexidine (CHX) (group IV), and saline (group V) each. In all cases, two microbiological samples from within the canal were taken with sterile paper points, one before the first irrigation and the other immediately after pulp extirpation.

Article Synopsis
  • Genetic polymorphisms significantly impact human health, particularly in the context of diseases like oral submucous fibrosis (OSMF), a condition that can lead to cancer.
  • This study examined variations in cancer-metabolizing genes (CYP1A1 and GSTM1) in patients with OSMF, comparing genetic markers in patients with different stages of the condition and a control group.
  • Results indicated higher prevalence of specific gene polymorphisms in patients with OSMF and especially those with cancer, highlighting the crucial influence of these genetic variations on disease progression.

Silver diamine fluoride (SDF) is a highly effective topical fluoride for halting dental caries; however, it darkens both teeth and restorations. Therefore, it is of interest to assess the shear bond strength (SBS) of glass ionomer cement (GIC) to caries-affected dentin treated with SDF alone and SDF followed by KI. Forty primary molar samples were prepared to reveal a flat dentin surface and were randomly assigned to two groups.

Objective: To enhance the survival rate of atraumatic restorative treatment (ART) restorations using (class I and class II) bilayer technique of placing glass ionomer cement (GIC) along with nanofilled coating (NC) over the restorations, thereby improving longevity.

Study Design: A total of 178 primary molars in 67 children were selected and randomly divided into four groups. Group IA was treated with a single layer of GIC, followed by a protective layer of petroleum jelly in class I restoration.

  • Traditional pulp testing relies on neural responses, which limits its effectiveness; this study creates a modified dental sensor using a finger pulse oximeter to evaluate tooth vitality through oxygen saturation levels.
  • Involving 300 children, the study categorized 600 teeth into groups and measured systemic and pulp oxygen saturation levels, finding significant differences in oxygen saturation among the various groups.
  • The custom pulse oximeter effectively measured oxygen saturation in teeth, showing it can accurately assess pulp vitality across different developmental stages, making it a valuable tool in pediatric dentistry.

Background And Aim: A new concept of antibiotic sterilization has come into existence which can be used to sterilize the demineralized portion of the teeth with minimal or ultraconservative excavation of caries in deep dentinal carious lesions as an alternative for indirect pulp therapy (IPT) and pulpotomy to avoid further complications. This study was undertaken to compare the success rates of antibiotic sterilization, indirect pulp treatment, and pulpotomy in the management of primary teeth with deep carious lesion.

Materials And Methods: Ninety teeth involving deep carious lesions approaching pulp in primary molars were selected and randomly divided into three groups containing 30 teeth.

Introduction: Local anesthetics are used to alleviate pain, but the prick of the injection delivering anesthesia is known to cause anxiety and pain that affect dental treatment. The most difficult aspect of pediatric dentistry is minimizing discomfort while the intraoral local anesthetic is administered. This pain has been treated using physical, psychological, pharmacological, and combinations of these approaches.

The impact of multiple reuse on the alterations in internal threads of four different implant analogous composed of different materials (stainless steel (SS), aluminum (Al), titanium (Ti), and zirconia (Zr) by utilizing two die materials at different time durations is of interest to dentists. The spacing between the threads was measured using the impressions created for the interior threads of implant analogs, or replicas by stereomicroscope set to x50 at 0th, 3rd, 6th, 9th, and 12th interval. It was observed that there was decrease in distance between threads 1-2 as the increasing reuse at increasing time intervals in all implants analogs.

Article Synopsis
  • In modern dentistry, the focus has shifted towards preventing cavities, with pit and fissure sealants (PFS) being a key method to avoid the buildup of plaque in hard-to-reach areas of teeth.
  • The study aimed to compare the effectiveness of dentin bonding agents (DBA) alone or with a procedure called fissurotomy in reducing microleakage before applying PFS on freshly extracted premolars.
  • Results indicated that using both fissurotomy and DBA (Group 4) resulted in the least microleakage, while the conventional PFS method (Group 1) had significantly higher microleakage scores, highlighting the benefits of combining techniques for better outcomes.

Int J Clin Pediatr Dent

January 2023

Department of Pedodontics and Preventive Dentistry, Teerthanker Mahaveer Dental College & Research Centre (TMDC & RC), Teerthanker Mahaveer University, Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh, India.

Aim: Intracanal posts enhance the resistance of the restoration to mechanical loads and masticatory forces in primary teeth with extensive carious breakdown. This study was done to investigate the clinical performance of composite resin restoration retained by either glass fiber post or biological post in the restoration of primary anterior teeth with extensive carious lesions.

Materials And Methods: A total of 21 children (with 82 primary anterior teeth) who met the inclusion criteria were involved in the study.

Aim: The presence of extensive dental caries leads to pain, inflammation, and discomfort and hence interferes with their nutritional intake, which includes iron deficiency anemia. This study was undertaken to determine whether any correlation exists between severe early childhood caries (S-ECC), serum iron, and serum ferritin levels in children.

Materials And Methods: A total of 688 children were examined in the age-group of 2-6 years, and 82 children who fulfilled the selection criteria were equally divided into group I, that is, case group (carious group = 41) and group II, that is, control group (caries-free group = 41), on the basis of decayed, missing, and filled primary teeth (dmft) scores.

Background And Aim: To evaluate the association between severe early childhood caries (S-ECC), dietary preferences, and 2nd digit-4th digit (2D:4D) ratio. The objective is to contrast the detection and prevalence of dental caries in children with different sensitivity levels to the bitter taste of 6--propylthiouracil (PROP) and its association with 2D:4D.

Materials And Methods: A total of 300 children below 71 months of age were assigned to two study groups-group I (caries-free) and group II (caries).

Pathophysiology of the Toxic Effects in Metallic Implants.

J Long Term Eff Med Implants

November 2023

Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Raipur-492099, India.

Implants play a very crucial role in modern era of medicine and address several needs in all the medical specialties. Both essential and nonessential metals released from implants at high concentrations can impair biological functions and result in toxicity involving multiple systems of the body. Furthermore, the toxicity information is typically based on exposure through dietary intake and/or occupational/environmental exposure but, since the in vivo implant environment and its composition is different or unknown, individual implants toxic effects needs to be elaborated.
