Background: As summarized by the Lancet Psychiatry Commission on youth mental health (McGorry et al., 2024), the statistics on mental disorders in children are alarming and highlight the need to expand and optimize research on childhood mental health. Although patient and public involvement (PPI) of those affected has the potential to boost both the acceptance and outcomes of research studies, the active involvement of young children, that is, primary school children, in mental health research has been neglected.

Background/aims: Previous studies indicated a significant association between mental disorders and cardiovascular diseases, including heart failure (HF) and coronary artery disease (CAD) with comorbidity hypertension (HTN), and vice versa, leading to a challenge in the final decision. To resolve this issue, we aimed to exclude comorbidities and further assessed to better find any association between mental disorders and cardiovascular diseases (CVD).
Methods: The cross-sectional study involved 300 participants: 100 with HTN (without HF or CAD), 100 with HF (without HTN or CAD), 100 with CAD (without HTN or HF), and 100 healthy individuals as a control group.

Old Yellow Enzymes (OYEs) are flavin-containing ene-reductases that have been intensely studied with regard to their biotechnological potential for sustainable chemical syntheses. OYE-encoding genes are found throughout the domains of life, but their physiological role is mostly unknown, one reason for this being the promiscuity of most ene-reductases studied to date. The unicellular green alga possesses four genes coding for OYEs, three of which we have analyzed biochemically before.

However, MHC I binding grooves can differ largely in their plasticity, from binding grooves that are conformationally stable by themselves to those that require a high-affinity peptide to be bound to attain conformational stability. These latter MHC I alleles are dependent on the C-terminus of the peptide that stabilizes the F-pocket region of their binding grooves.

These differing perceptions are assumed to be due to different business models, mainly linked to the distribution system adopted and resulting in varying distances of producers to distributors and consumers. While upstream integration characterizes the Old World, the New World applies a downstream business model, being more closely linked to distributors and consumers and, therefore, more vulnerable to shocks, which should lead to higher perceived impacts of the COVID-19 crisis.

In this work, we employ differential electrochemical mass spectrometry (DEMS) to track the real-time evolution of CO at nanoporous gold (NpAu) catalysts with varying pore parameters (diameter and length) during the electrochemical CO reduction reaction (CORR). We show that due to the increase in the local pH with increasing catalyst roughness, NpAu catalysts suppress the bicarbonate-mediated hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) compared to a flat Au electrode. Additionally, the geometric current density for CORR increases with the roughness of NpAu catalysts, which we attribute to the increased availability of active sites at NpAu catalysts.

Recently, the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) issued a tolerable daily intake (TDI) for erucic acid, which is mainly found in rapeseed oil. Infants may be exposed to erucic acid from rapeseed oil indirectly through maternal consumption via breastmilk or the fat component in formula, and directly as a part of complementary feeding (CF). To check the safety of infant nutrition, scenarios for erucic acid exposure were calculated based on the daily food amounts of the German dietary guidelines.

Introduction: Determining potential risk factors of amyloid beta (Aβ) misfolding in blood, a risk marker for clinical Alzheimer's disease (AD), could have important implications for its utility in future research and clinical settings.
Methods: Participants aged 50 to 75 years attending a general health examination were recruited for a prospective community-based cohort study in Saarland, Germany, in 2000 to 2002. For these analyses, participants with available Aβ misfolding measurements and clinical AD information at 17-year follow-up were included ( = 444).

A wide variety of processes controls the time of occurrence, duration, extent, and severity of river floods. Classifying flood events by their causative processes may assist in enhancing the accuracy of local and regional flood frequency estimates and support the detection and interpretation of any changes in flood occurrence and magnitudes. This paper provides a critical review of existing causative classifications of instrumental and preinstrumental series of flood events, discusses their validity and applications, and identifies opportunities for moving toward more comprehensive approaches.
