Islet amyloid polypeptide (IAPP) is co-secreted with insulin from pancreatic ß-cells. Its oligomerisation is regarded as disease driving force in type 2 diabetes (T2D) pathology. Up to now, IAPP oligomers have been detected in affected tissues.

Background: Primary tumor (PT) sidedness is an established prognostic marker in metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC) and has a predictive impact on the efficacy of anti-epidermal growth factor receptor (anti-EGFR) antibody [monoclonal antibody (mAb)] in patients with RAS wild-type mCRC. This investigation focuses on patients with BRAF-mutated (BRAFmt) mCRC and examines the efficacy of anti-EGFR mAbs in relation to primary tumor sidedness (PTS).
Patient And Methods: This pooled analysis was carried out using individual patient data from five randomized studies in the first-line setting of mCRC.

The vibrational spectroscopy of protonated methane and its mixed hydrogen/deuterium isotopologues remains a challenge to both experimental and computational spectroscopy due to the iconic floppiness of CH. Here, we compute the finite-temperature broadband infrared spectra of CH and all its isotopologues, CHD up to CD, from path integral molecular dynamics in conjunction with interactions and dipoles computed consistently at CCSD(T) coupled cluster accuracy. The potential energy and dipole moment surfaces have been accurately represented in full dimensionality in terms of high-dimensional neural networks.

As an alternative to transvenous ICD systems, two non-transvenous ICD systems have been established in recent years: The subcutaneous ICD (S-ICD), which has been established for several years, has a presternal electrode that is implanted subcutaneously and offers a shock function and, to a limited extent, post-shock pacing. In addition, the extravascular ICD (EV-ICD) has been available in Europe since 2023 which does not require transvenous electrodes and offers the option of providing patients with antibradycardic and antitachycardic stimulation in combination with a conventional ICD function. The lead of this device is implanted substernally.

Understanding developmental trajectories and gender differences in depressive symptoms is clinically relevant. Discerning true differences across gender, age groups, and time is based on the often-neglected premise of measurement invariance (MI) of child and adolescent depression scales. In this systematic review, we assessed available evidence for MI across gender, age groups, and time for depression scales validated in children and adolescents, in studies with at least one assessment under age 18.

VCD research continues to thrive, driven by ongoing experimental and theoretical advances. Modern studies deal with increasingly complex samples featuring weak intermolecular interactions and shallow potential energy surfaces. Likewise, the combination of VCD measurements with, for instance, cryo-spectroscopic techniques has significantly increased their sensitivity.

Machine learning potentials (MLPs) have revolutionized the field of atomistic simulations by describing atomic interactions with the accuracy of electronic structure methods at a small fraction of the cost. Most current MLPs construct the energy of a system as a sum of atomic energies, which depend on information about the atomic environments provided in the form of predefined or learnable feature vectors. If, in addition, nonlocal phenomena like long-range charge transfer are important, fourth-generation MLPs need to be used, which include a charge equilibration (Qeq) step to take the global structure of the system into account.

Purpose: This study investigates the care provision and the role of infectious disease (ID) specialists during the coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.
Methods: A survey was conducted at German study sites participating in the Lean European Open Survey on SARS-CoV-2 infected patients (LEOSS). Hospitals certified by the German Society of Infectious diseases (DGI) were identified as ID centers.

Improving proton transfer is vital for electrocatalysis with porous materials. Although several strategies are reported to assist proton transfer in channels, few studies are dedicated to improving proton transfer at the local environments of active sites in porous materials. Herein, we report on new Co-corrole-based porous organic polymers (POPs) with improved proton transfer for electrocatalytic oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER).

Human hair cortisol concentration (HCC) has previously been found to be highly stable for a 1-year interval (r = 0.73) in terms of a product-moment correlation. The present study aimed to replicate this finding and compare HCC stability regarding 1-year and 2-year test-retest intervals.

The text attempts to understand the development of collaborative audiovisual knowledge practices in anthropology as situated and diffractive knowledge (Haraway, Barad, Smith). By considering specific stages in the history of collaborative and participatory projects, the article argues that collaborative filmmaking is not only a decentering of one-sided authorship and one-sided modes of representation, but also a media-specific form of knowledge that is bound to and embedded in social contexts. Through the example of colonial film, the article describes stations of demarcation and attempts to decolonize film.

Geriatrics can enable and monitor a holistic care of older people through a comprehensive geriatric assessment in a structured way. Therefore, it must be integrated much more closely with preventive, rehabilitative and acute care units. Geriatrics are not seen in any aspects as a replacement for general practitioners or in-hospital structures but much more as a supplement to them.

Background: The Charité Alarm Fatigue Questionnaire (CAFQa) is a 9-item questionnaire that aims to standardize how alarm fatigue in nurses and physicians is measured. We previously hypothesized that it has 2 correlated scales, one on the psychosomatic effects of alarm fatigue and the other on staff's coping strategies in working with alarms.
Objective: We aimed to validate the hypothesized structure of the CAFQa and thus underpin the instrument's construct validity.

Objectives: Adequate theoretical and practical training of prospective clinical perfusionists is essential for maintaining clinical standards and ensuring patient safety during cardiac surgery procedures. Perfusion schools play a crucial role in establishing and maintaining higher education and training standards in clinical perfusion. The aim of this study is to obtain a comprehensive overview of European training standards in clinical perfusion in 2023.

Background: Patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) are at increased risk for thromboembolic events including stroke. The primary source for thromboembolism in these patients is thrombus formation in the left atrial appendage (LAA). Depending on the individual thromboembolic risk, long-term anticoagulation is recommended.

A hallmark of Parkinson's disease is the specific degeneration of dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra pars compacta. Interestingly, not all of these neurons are affected to the same extent. Studies revealed that neurons located more ventrally within the substantia nigra pars compacta have a higher prevalence to degenerate than those located in the dorsal tier.

Introduction: Despite numerous papers focusing on mindfulness at work, our knowledge about how flow experience and stress as indicators of optimal functioning and wellbeing at work evolve over time during the common mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) program remains limited. Drawing from the transactional model of flow and stress, we argue that a build-up of mindfulness over the training duration not only leads to a decrease in stress but also an increase in flow experience. Thereby, we examine the moderating role of emotional exhaustion amplifying the beneficial effects of mindfulness.

Previous trials reported comparable results with PASCAL and earlier MitraClip generations. Limited comparative data exist for more contemporary MitraClip generations, particularly the large MitraClip XT(R/W). We aimed to evaluate acute and 30-day outcomes in patients undergoing mitral valve transcatheter edge-to-edge repair (M-TEER) with one of the large devices, either PASCAL P10 or MitraClip XT(R/W) (3rd/4th generation).
