The BESIII Collaboration recently performed a precise measurement of the e^{+}e^{-}→DD[over ¯] Born cross sections, and confirmed the G(3900) structure reported by BABAR and Belle with high significance. We identify the G(3900) as the first P-wave DD[over ¯]^{*}/D[over ¯]D^{*} molecular resonance. The experimental and theoretical identification of the P-wave dimeson state holds paramount importance in enhancing our comprehension of the nonperturbative QCD and few-body physics.

Lung metastases occur in up to 54% of patients with metastatic tumours. Contributing factors to this high frequency include the physical properties of the pulmonary system and a less oxidative environment that may favour the survival of cancer cells. Moreover, secreted factors from primary tumours alter immune cells and the extracellular matrix of the lung, creating a permissive pre-metastatic environment primed for the arriving cancer cells.

December 2024

Institut für Allgemeinmedizin, Medizinische Fakultät, Universität Duisburg-Essen, Essen, Deutschland. Electronic address:

Background: Strategies to counteract the impending and in some places already existing shortage of general practitioners (GPs) are being discussed in Germany. One approach could be to establish interprofessional teams in GP practices by integrating physician assistants (PAs).

Question: Can GPs imagine employing a PA in their practice and if so, under what conditions?

Methods: In March/April 2023, about 5,000 GPs in North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW), who work in a region with a care level of < 100 %, and about 1,000 GPs from Saxony-Anhalt were asked to take part in an online-based survey.

Background: This paper reports on the outcomes of a proof-of-principle study for the Exposure Therapy Consortium, a global network of researchers and clinicians who work to improve the effectiveness and uptake of exposure therapy. The study aimed to test the feasibility of the consortium's big-team science approach and test the hypothesis that adding post-exposure processing focused on enhancing threat reappraisal would enhance the efficacy of a one-session large-group interoceptive exposure therapy protocol for reducing anxiety sensitivity.

Methods: The study involved a multi-site cluster-randomized controlled trial comparing exposure with post-processing (ENHANCED), exposure without post-processing (STANDARD), and a stress management intervention (CONTROL) in students with elevated anxiety sensitivity.

The CoA thioester of 2-(carboxymethyl)cyclohexane-1-carboxylic acid has been identified as a metabolite in anaerobic naphthalene degradation by the sulfate-reducing culture N47. This study identified and characterised two acyl-CoA dehydrogenases (ThnO/ThnT) and an intramolecular CoA-transferase (ThnP) encoded within the substrate-induced thn operon, which contains genes for anaerobic degradation of naphthalene. ThnP is a CoA transferase belonging to the family I (Cat 1 subgroup) that catalyses the intramolecular CoA transfer from the carboxyl group of 2-(carboxymethyl)cyclohexane-1-carboxyl-CoA to its carboxymethyl moiety, forming 2-carboxycyclohexylacetyl-CoA.

A phase-field study to explore the nature of the morphological instability of Kirkendall voids in complex alloys.

Sci Rep

December 2024

Interdisciplinary Centre for Advanced Materials Simulation (ICAMS), Ruhr-Universität Bochum, Universitätsstr. 150, 44801, Bochum, NRW, Germany.

The present research explores theoretical and computational aspects of the morphological instability of Kirkendall voids induced by a directed flux of vacancies. A quantitative phase-field model is coupled with a multi-component diffusion model and CALPHAD-type thermodynamic and kinetic databases to obtain a meso-scale description of Kirkendall void morphologies under isothermal annealing. The material under investigation is a diffusion couple consisting of a multi-phase multi-component single-crystal Ni-based superalloy on one side and pure Ni on the other side.

Fungal sexual reproduction is controlled by the mating-type () locus. In contrast to a majority of species in the phylum Basidiomycota that have tetrapolar mating-type systems, the opportunistic human pathogen employs a bipolar mating-type system, with two mating types ( and α) determined by a single locus that is unusually large (~120 kb) and contains more than 20 genes. While several genes are associated with mating and sexual development, others control conserved cellular processes (e.

In biological systems, nitrite reductase enzymes (NIRs) are responsible for reduction of nitrite (NO) to nitric oxide (NO). These NIRs have mostly Cu- or Fe-containing active sites, surrounded by amine-containing ligands. Therefore, mononuclear Cu complexes with N-donor ligands are highly relevant in the development of NIR model systems and in the mechanistic investigation of the nitrite reduction reaction.

Management of acute decompensated valvular heart disease.

Eur J Heart Fail

December 2024

Department of Medicine I, LMU University Hospital, LMU Munich, Munich, Germany and DZHK (German Center for Cardiovascular Research), partner site Munich Heart Alliance, Munich, Germany.

Worldwide, valvular heart disease (VHD) is a common cause of hospitalization for acute heart failure. In acute heart failure caused by VHD, symptoms result from rapid haemodynamic changes and subsequent decline in cardiac function, and if left untreated, leads to acute decompensation and cardiogenic shock. Current evidence remains scarce and recommendations regarding the management of acute heart failure caused by VHD are lacking in most recent international guidelines.
