Background: In facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy (FSHD), it is not known whether physical activity (PA) practiced at young age is associated with the clinical presentation of disease. To assess this issue, we performed a retrospective cohort study concerning the previous practice of sports and, among them, those with medium-high cardiovascular commitment in clinically categorized carriers of a D4Z4 reduced allele (DRA).
Methods: People aged between 18 and 60 were recruited as being DRA carriers.

A search for events with a dark photon produced in association with a dark Higgs boson via rare decays of the standard model Z boson is presented, using 139 fb^{-1} of sqrt[s]=13 TeV proton-proton collision data recorded by the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. The dark boson decays into a pair of dark photons, and at least two of the three dark photons must each decay into a pair of electrons or muons, resulting in at least two same-flavor opposite-charge lepton pairs in the final state. The data are found to be consistent with the background prediction, and upper limits are set on the dark photon's coupling to the dark Higgs boson times the kinetic mixing between the standard model photon and the dark photon, α_{D}ϵ^{2}, in the dark photon mass range of [5, 40] GeV except for the ϒ mass window [8.

Background And Objectives: Heterozygous variants in RAR-related orphan receptor B () have recently been associated with susceptibility to idiopathic generalized epilepsy. However, few reports have been published so far describing pathogenic variants of this gene in patients with epilepsy and intellectual disability (ID). In this study, we aimed to delineate the epilepsy phenotype associated with pathogenic variants and to provide arguments in favor of the pathogenicity of variants.

Brain abscess is a focal infection occurring within the brain parenchyma consisting of a pus collection surrounded by a vascularized capsule and a fibrinous-caseous layer between the pus and capsule. Surgery is indicated for lesions with a diameter >25 mm. Different surgical approaches have been described, including puncturing of the abscess (under neuronavigation, stereotactic or echographic guidance) with aspiration of the purulent fluid through a catheter and craniotomy with microsurgical removal of the purulent material and surrounding capsule.

Objective: Common complications after spinal fusion, such as pseudoarthrosis, cage subsidence, or instrumentation failure, are affected by patients' bone quality. The cervical-vertebral bone quality (C-VBQ) score, a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)-based adaption of the lumbar vertebral bone quality (VBQ) score, was developed by 3 separate research groups simultaneously to evaluate bone quality in cervical spinal fusion patients. We present the first analysis comparing these scoring methods to the well-validated VBQ score.

Introduction: Faith-based organisations (FBOs) and religious actors increase vaccine confidence and uptake among ethnoracially minoritised communities in low-income and middle-income countries. During the COVID-19 pandemic and the subsequent vaccine rollout, global organisations such as the WHO and UNICEF called for faith-based collaborations with public health agencies (PHAs). As PHA-FBO partnerships emerge to support vaccine uptake, the scoping review aims to: (1) outline intervention typologies and implementation frameworks guiding interventions; (2) describe the roles of PHAs and FBOs in the design, implementation and evaluation of strategies and (3) synthesise outcomes and evaluations of PHA-FBO vaccine uptake initiatives for ethnoracially minoritised communities.

Quantifying axonal branching is crucial for understanding neural circuit function, developmental and regeneration processes and disease mechanisms. Factors that regulate patterns of axonal arborization and tune neuronal circuits are investigated for their implication in various disorders in brain connectivity. The lack of a reliable and user-friendly method makes the quantitative analysis of axon morphology difficult.

The interplay between immune activation and immune regulation is a fundamental aspect of the functional harmony of the immune system. This delicate balance is essential to triggering correct and effective immune responses against pathogens while preventing excessive inflammation and the immunopathogenic mechanisms of autoimmunity. The knowledge of all the mechanisms involved in immune regulation is not yet definitive, and, probably, the overall picture is much broader than what has been described in the scientific literature so far.

Over recent decades, peripheral sensory abnormalities, including the evidence of cutaneous denervation, have been reported among the non-motor manifestations in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). However, a correlation between cutaneous innervation and clinical features has not been found. The aims of this study were to assess sensory involvement by applying a morpho-functional approach to a large population of ALS patients stratified according to King's stages and correlate these findings with the severity and prognosis of the disease.

Carbonyl-carbonyl interactions in peptides and proteins attracted considerable interest in recent years. Here, we report a survey of carbonyl-carbonyl interactions in cyclic peptides, depsipeptides, peptoids and discuss the relationship between backbone torsion angles and CO∙∙∙CO distances. In general, φ values in the range between -40° and -90° and between 40° and 90° correspond to CO∙∙∙CO distances below 3.
