Aging is the result of several complex and multifactorial processes, where several agents contribute to an increased intrinsic vulnerability and susceptibility to age-related diseases. The hallmarks of aging are a set of biological mechanisms that are finely regulated and strictly interconnected, initiating or contributing to biological changes and anticipating several age-related diseases. The complex network of cellular and intercellular connections between the hallmarks might represent a possible target for the research of agents with pleiotropic effects.

COVID-19 increases the risk of venous thromboembolism (VTE) through a complex interplay of mechanisms collectively referred to as immunothrombosis. Limited data exist on VTE challenges in the acute setting throughout a dynamic long-term follow-up of COVID-19 patients compared to non-COVID-19 patients. The aim of the study was to investigate acute and long-term management and complications in VTE patients with and without COVID-19.

: Breast localization plays a key role in early breast cancer (BC) surgery. The current gold standard is wire-guided localization (WGL), despite the known disadvantages. The patients often experience anxiety and discomfort due the metallic wire placed in the breast, and surgeons are compelled to perform the surgery on the same day as the radiological release of the wire to prevent migrations or breakages.

Teledermatology may be defined as the application of telemedicine to dermatology. According to published data, teledermatology is more widespread in Europe and North America, probably where resources for health care are greater than in other areas of the world. Indeed, teledermatology requires advanced technology to be efficient, as high image quality is necessary to allow the dermatologist to make correct diagnoses.

G-quadruplexes (G4s) are non-canonical nucleic acids secondary structures that can form at guanine-rich sequences of DNA and RNA in every kingdom of life. At the DNA level, G4s can form throughout genomes but they are prevalently found in promoter regions and at telomeres, and they have been attributed functions spanning from transcriptional regulation, to control of DNA replication, to maintenance of chromosome ends. Our understanding of the functions of G4s in cells has greatly improved with the development of specific anti-G4 antibodies, which allow the visualization of G4s by immunofluorescence but also the mapping of these secondary DNA structures genome wide.

Background: According to scientific literature, burnout can be described as a multidimensional syndrome with three fundamental dimensions: emotional exhaustion, depersonalization and reduced personal accomplishment. Every day, clown-doctors, play therapists, teachers and volunteers, such as ceramic art therapists, work in pediatric cancer wards to improve the quality of life of hospitalized children and activate positive resources during their therapeutic journey.
Methods: This study investigated burnout levels and the relationship between work-related stress and resilience in a total of 36 operators (clown-doctors, in-hospital teachers, play therapists, and ceramic art therapists), working at the Unit of Pediatric Oncology of IRCCS A.

Background: In adoptive T cell therapy, the long term therapeutic benefits in patients treated with engineered tumor specific T cells are limited by the lack of long term persistence of the infused cellular products and by the immunosuppressive mechanisms active in the tumor microenvironment. Exhausted T cells infiltrating the tumor are characterized by loss of effector functions triggered by multiple inhibitory receptors (IRs). In patients, IR blockade reverts T cell exhaustion but has low selectivity, potentially unleashing autoreactive clones and resulting in clinical autoimmune side effects.

During development, motor axons are guided toward muscle target by various extrinsic cues including extracellular matrix (ECM) proteins whose identities and cellular source remain poorly characterized. Here, using single-cell RNAseq of sorted GFP cells from -injected zebrafish embryos, we unravel the slow muscle progenitors (SMP) pseudotemporal trajectory at the single-cell level and show that differentiating SMPs are a major source of ECM proteins. The SMP core-matrisome was characterized and computationally predicted to form a basement membrane-like structure tailored for motor axon guidance, including basement membrane-associated ECM proteins, as collagen XV-B, one of the earliest core-matrisome gene transcribed in differentiating SMPs and the glycoprotein Tenascin C.

NRF2 is a master regulator of the antioxidative response that was recently proposed as a potential regulator of extracellular matrix (ECM) gene expression. Fibroblasts are major ECM producers in all connective tissues, including the dermis. A better understanding of NRF2-mediated ECM regulation in skin fibroblasts is thus of great interest for skin homeostasis maintenance and aging protection.

In the last several decades, advances in genetic testing have transformed the diagnostic and therapeutic approach to pediatric epilepsy. However, the interpretation of these genetic tests often requires expert analysis and counseling. For this reason, as our molecular understanding of the linkages between abnormal cerebral physiology and genetics has grown, so too has the field of clinical epilepsy genetics.
