The emergence of new SARS-CoV-2 variants has raised concerns about the effectiveness of COVID-19 vaccines. To address this challenge, small-molecule antivirals have been proposed as a crucial therapeutic option. Among potential targets for anti-COVID-19 therapy, the main protease (M) of SARS-CoV-2 is important due to its essential role in the virus's life cycle and high conservation.

The number of patients with functional loss of bone and cartilage tissue has shown an increasing trend. Insufficient or inappropriate conventional treatments applied for trauma, orthopedic diseases, or other bone and cartilage-related disorders can lead to bone and cartilage damage. This represents a worldwide public health issue and a significant economic burden.

Prostate cancer (PCa) is the second prevalent cancer in men. Recent studies have highlighted the critical role of prostate cancer stem cells (PCSCs) in driving tumor initiation and metastasis of the prostate tissue. PCSCs are a rare population of cells in the prostate that possess self-renewal and differentiation capabilities, making them a potential therapeutic target for effective PCa treatment.

Most of the studies have reported the downregulation of miR-9 in metastatic melanomas compared to primary tumors. They indicated that miR-9 negatively regulates the epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT) by inhibiting SNAIL1 expression and consequently promotes CDH1 expression. Since the process of EMT is associated to stem cell features, it could be interesting to study the effect of miR-9 on melanoma cancer stem cells.

Biocompatible and bioactive carbon-based nanocomposites are ingeniously designed and fabricated with the aim of enhancing drug delivery applicability in breast cancer treatment. Reduced graphene oxide (rGO) and multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) are utilized as nanocarriers for increasing penetrability into cells and the loading capacity. What sets our study apart is the strategic incorporation of the two different complexes of silver (AgL) and palladium (PdL) with the carboxamide-based ligand CHNOS (L), which have been synthesized and decorated on nanocarriers alongside doxorubicin (DOX) for stabilizing DOX by π-π interactions and hydrogen bonding.

Extracellular vesicles (EVs) encompass a diverse range of membranous structures derived from cells, including exosomes and microvesicles. These vesicles are present in biological fluids and play vital roles in various physiological and pathological processes. They facilitate intercellular communication by enabling the exchange of proteins, lipids, and genetic material between cells.

The therapeutic effects of extracellular vesicles (EVs) have been identified as a significant factor in intercellular communication in different disease treatments, including osteoarthritis (OA). Compared to the conventional approaches in treating OA, EV therapy is a non-invasive and cell-free method. However, improving the yield of EVs and their therapeutic effects are the main challenges for clinical applications.

Objective: The collagen-induced arthritis (CIA) model is the most commonly studied autoimmune model of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). In this study, we investigated the usefulness of collagen type II emulsified in Freund's incomplete adjuvant (CII/IFA) as a suitable method for establishing RA in Lewis rats. The aim of the present study was to present a straightforward and effective method for inducing CIA in rats.

Reactive oxygen species (ROS) play essential roles in cellular functions, but maintaining ROS balance is crucial for effective therapeutic interventions, especially during cell therapy. In this study, we synthesized an injectable gelatin-based hydrogel, in which polydopamine nanoparticles were entrapped using supramolecular interactions. The surfaces of the nanoparticles were modified using adamantane, enabling their interactions with β-cyclodextrin-conjugated with gelatin.

Background: Recent studies have shown an increasing number of patients with cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL) who do not respond to pentavalent antimonials as the first line of treatment for CL. Nanocarriers such as extracellular vesicles (EVs) are efficient vehicles that might be used as drug delivery systems for the treatment of diseases. Therefore, we aimed to isolate and characterize the EVs of , load them with Amphotericin B (AmB), and investigate the toxicity and efficacy of the prepared drug form.

Background: The objective of this study was to induce the differentiation of human theca stem cells (hTSCs) into germ cell-like cells (hGCLCs) and assess their developmental progression following in vitro 3D culture with ovarian somatic cells within the follicle-like structures. To achieve this, the hTSCs were isolated from small antral follicles of three patients of varying ages and were then seeded in a differentiation medium for 40 days. The differentiated hGCLCs were subsequently aggregated with somatic ovarian cells (cumulus cells and hTSCs) in a ratio of 1:10 and cultured in a growth medium in a suspension culture dish.

Background: Aortic valve replacement (AVR) may complicate conduction abnormalities and require permanent pacemaker (PPM) implantation. New techniques that lessen this challenge may lead to the development of new approaches. Our objective was to evaluate the contemporary incidence of early postoperative PPM implantation in patients undergoing isolated AVR and root disease with the standard AVR surgical technique compared with the novel suture AVR technique.

Introduction: This study aims to investigate the ability of umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells (UC-MSC) to enhance the regeneration of pulp-dentin complex in immature permanent teeth with irreversible pulpitis.
Methods: A total of 32 mandibular premolar teeth with immature apices in 5 dogs were used in this in-vivo randomized controlled trial (RCT). Eight healthy teeth without pre-existing pathosis served as the positive control samples and received no treatment, while in another 8 teeth, the pulp was completely extirpated (negative control).

Colorectal cancer is the third most common and the second deadliest cancer worldwide. To date, colorectal cancer becomes one of the most important challenges of the health system in many countries. Since the clinical symptoms of this cancer appear in the final stages of the disease and there is a significant golden time between the formation of polyps and the onset of cancer, early diagnosis can play a significant role in reducing mortality.

Introduction: Despite improvements in clinical management of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), prognosis remains poor with a 5-year survival rate less than 40%. Drug resistance in HCC makes it challenging to treat; therefore, it is imperative to develop new therapeutic strategies. Higher expression of X-box binding protein 1 (XBP1) in tumor cells is highly correlated with poor prognosis.

Background: In early Alzheimer's disease (AD), high-level visual functions and processing speed are impacted. Few functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) studies have investigated high-level visual deficits in AD, yet none have explored brain activity patterns during rapid animal/non-animal categorization tasks.
Objective: To address this, we utilized the previously known Integrated Cognitive Assessment (ICA) to collect fMRI data and compare healthy controls (HC) to individuals with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and mild AD.
