Article Synopsis
  • Recurrent events after myocardial infarction (MI) often arise from non-flow limiting lesions, which may differ between sexes, prompting this study to investigate these potential differences among MI patients.
  • The study examined 420 patients, finding that female patients had longer NC lesions and smaller lumen areas and diameters, as well as thinner fibrous caps compared to male patients.
  • Despite females exhibiting more high-risk plaque characteristics, both genders experienced similar rates of major cardiovascular events at two years, suggesting the need for further research on long-term outcomes related to these differences.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to assess how specific OCT-detected vulnerability features (OCT-VFs) can predict major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) in diabetic patients with non-ischemic lesions.
  • A total of 390 patients participated, with the study identifying four specific OCT-VFs (TCFA, r-MLA, h-PB, and CP) and analyzing their impact on MACE over a 5-year follow-up.
  • Results showed that while each OCT-VF was linked to higher risk of MACE, having two or more OCT-VFs significantly increased the risk of adverse cardiovascular outcomes.

Article Synopsis
  • Chronic total occlusion (CTO) in coronary arteries poses significant challenges during percutaneous coronary interventions (PCI), often requiring advanced methods and tools like microcatheters.
  • The BIOMICS study tested a new microcatheter (BioMC) in 100 patients with ischemic symptoms undergoing CTO-PCI, focusing on its ability to successfully facilitate guide wire placement and monitoring for safety issues like cardiac death or myocardial infarction.
  • Results showed a 75% success rate in achieving the primary efficacy goal and only 2% incidence of severe safety events, indicating that the new microcatheter is both effective and safe in treating CTO.

Article Synopsis
  • - The Navitor IDE study examines the safety and effectiveness of the Navitor valve for patients with severe aortic stenosis who are at high surgical risk, focusing on the connection between patient factors and the rate of new permanent pacemaker implantation (PPI) within 30 days post-surgery.
  • - Researchers analyzed data from 260 patients, excluding those with prior pacemakers, and found that specific conduction abnormalities, like first-degree atrioventricular block and right bundle branch block, increased the likelihood of new PPI, while the depth of the valve implantation also played a significant role.
  • - The study concludes that both existing conduction issues and the surgical technique (implant depth) are critical predictors of whether patients will need a new pacemaker

We discovered high-titer neutralizing autoantibodies against interleukin-10 in a child with infantile-onset inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), a phenocopy of inborn errors of interleukin-10 signaling. After B-cell-depletion therapy and an associated decrease in the anti-interleukin-10 titer, conventional IBD therapy could be withdrawn. A second child with neutralizing anti-interleukin-10 autoantibodies had a milder course of IBD and has been treated without B-cell depletion.

Introduction: Several landmark randomized-controlled trials (RCTs) have demonstrated the efficacy of sodium-glucose co-transport 2 (SGLT2) inhibitors in reducing all-cause mortality, cardiovascular (CV) mortality and heart failure (HF) hospitalizations. Much interest surrounds their mechanism of action and whether they have direct effects on reverse cardiac remodelling. Therefore, we conducted a meta-analysis of placebo controlled RCTs evaluating the impact of SGLT2 inhibition on imaging derived markers of reverse cardiac remodelling in patients with HF.
