Feasibility of a virtual reality course on adult tracheostomy safety skills.

The National Tracheostomy Safety Project has run high-quality, face-to-face skills courses since 2009. The aim of this project was to produce a virtual reality version of the established course and evaluate its impact on participant learning, and participant and faculty satisfaction. Healthcare staff and students were recruited and randomised to attend one of (1) a face-to-face traditional course (control); (2) a virtual reality course at a conference centre with on-site technical support; (3) a fully remote virtual reality course; the virtual reality groups were combined for the analysis of learning outcomes and satisfaction.

A retrospective cohort study of Libmeldy (atidarsagene autotemcel) for MLD: What we have accomplished and what opportunities lie ahead.

Metachromatic leukodystrophy (MLD) results from ARSA gene mutations. Affected individuals meet early milestones before neurological deterioration and early death. Atidarsagene autotemcel (arsa-cel), an autologous haematopoietic stem cell gene therapy (HSC-GT) product, has demonstrated sustained clinical benefits in MLD.

Imaging of juvenile spinal disorders.

The growing spine is under excessive stresses during pubertal growth. There are specific pathologies, such as posterior ring apophyseal fractures, spondylolysis, and Hirayama's disease, which are primarily encountered in this subset of patients. Pain and deformity remain the common clinical presentations of these disorders.

Notes for the general paediatrician: managing thyrotoxicosis in children and young people.

Thyrotoxicosis due to hyperthyroidism is a serious disorder in childhood often presenting to general paediatricians with a range of clinical manifestations. The commonest cause is Graves' disease, an autoimmune disorder resulting from thyrotropin receptor stimulation by autoantibodies. Early recognition and accurate interpretation of investigations are essential to achieve and maintain a euthyroid state.
