Introduction: Pulsed-field ablation (PFA) is a novel modality for pulmonary vein isolation in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF). We describe the initial uptake and experience of PFA using a pentaspline catheter across selected National Health Service England (NHSE) centres.
Methods: Data collected by NHSE Specialised Services Development Programme regarding AF ablation procedures using a single-shot, pentaspline, multielectrode PFA catheter (FARAWAVE, Boston Scientific) between June 2022 and August 2024 were aggregated and analysed to examine procedural metrics, acute efficacy and safety outcomes over 3-month follow-up.

The epidemiological data regarding mortality rates of adults with sarcoidosis and non-ischemic cardiovascular disease (CVD) are limited. A retrospective observational analysis was conducted to identify trends and disparities related to sarcoidosis and non-ischemic cardiovascular disease mortality among the adult US population from 1999 to 2022. We used the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) WONDER database to extract death certificate data for the adult US population (≥25 years).

The primary aim of this survey was to capture current practice with regard to lifting limitations following elbow arthroplasty. An online survey was emailed to all members of the British Elbow and Shoulder Society. All consultant respondents who reported performing elbow arthroplasty were asked about their advice for post-operative lifting limitations.

Objective: Despite the benefits of digital transformation, many healthcare organisations still rely on manual, traditional processes to transfer clinical images and videos to electronic patient records (EPRs), consuming valuable nurse-patient-facing time. Our study aimed to outline tasks performed by nurses to traditionally transfer clinical images and videos to EPRs, assess the impact on nurses' time and efficiency cost, and report on nurse experiences when transitioning to a digitised process.
Methods: Observations spanned two one-week periods in the ENT outpatient department of Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, using direct observational time and predetermined motion time system analysis to map nurses' tasks pre-and post-implementation of a Medical Video Recorder and Centralised Medical Content Management.

Objectives: There is a gap in our understanding of the experiences and needs of carers for patients with delirium and a scarcity of research on the topic in the UK. This study aims to explore the needs and experiences of carers for person with delirium and offer suggestions to support them.
Method: A qualitative interview study with carers of patients with delirium.

Pathogenic variants in either the mitochondrial or nuclear genomes are associated with a diverse group of human disorders characterized by impaired mitochondrial function. Within this group, an increasing number of families have been identified, where Mendelian genetic disorders implicate defective mitochondrial RNA biology. The PDE12 gene encodes the poly(A)-specific exoribonuclease, involved in the quality control of mitochondrial non-coding RNAs.

Background: The complication of neuropathy is high in patients undergoing distal humerus surgery. Tourniquets (TQs) are typically used but can lead to nerve injury.
Methods: We present a comparative study of a pre-intervention group ( = 38) and a post-intervention group ( = 38) undergoing distal humerus surgery between November 2020 and July 2023.

Introduction: Biallelic variants are a rare cause of isolated pancreatic agenesis and neonatal diabetes (NDM) without exocrine pancreatic insufficiency, with 17 cases reported in the literature.
Research Design And Methods: To determine the phenotypic variability caused by this rare genetic aetiology, we investigated 19 individuals with NDM resulting from biallelic disease-causing variants.
Results: Of the 19 individuals, 8 (42%) were confirmed to have exocrine insufficiency requiring replacement therapy.

Objective: The objective of this study was to report the 12-month oncological outcomes for patients with non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC) within the prospective, international COVIDSurg Cancer study.
Patients And Methods: Eligible patients were aged ≥18 years and scheduled for elective surgical management of NMIBC with curative intent (transurethral resection of bladder tumour [TURBT] or bladder biopsy) from 21 January to 14 April 2020. The primary outcome was disease recurrence within 12 months of previous elective TURBT/bladder biopsy.
