Aims: A proxy is someone other than a patient who reports a patient's outcomes as if they are the patient. Due to known discordance with patient reports, proxies are often not recommended in clinical trials; however, proxies may be needed in certain research contexts. We aimed to identify and describe trials registered on the Australian New Zealand Clinical Trials Registry (ANZCTR) with proxy-reported endpoints.

Background: 99mTechnetium-HDP (HDP) bone scans differentiate transthyretin (ATTR) cardiac amyloid from other infiltrative myocardial diseases. These scans are not quantitative and are assessed by comparing myocardial uptake to bone. This study examined whether quantitative HDP SPECT/CT can discriminate individuals with cardiac ATTR from the population without this disease.

Aim: To describe prospective application of an implementation framework to guide and evaluate a quality improvement (QI) project to improve adherence to evidence-based postoperative diet guidelines (consistent with Enhanced Recovery After Surgery, ERAS) in older surgical patients.
Methods: A hybrid mixed methods study guided by the integrated Promoting Action on Research Implementation in Health Services (i-PARIHS) framework was used. A pre-implementation audit identified gaps in nutrition-related care practices against ERAS guidelines for older surgical patients.

Aims: It is important to understand the number, types and regions of trials that include patient-reported outcomes (PROs) to appreciate how patient experiences have been considered in studies of health and interventions. Twenty-seven percent of trials registered with ClinicalTrials.gov (2007-2013) included PROs; however, a regional breakdown was not provided and no reviews have been conducted of the Australia New Zealand Clinical Trials Registry (ANZCTR).

Unlabelled: Rib osteomyelitis is an infrequently occurring but important complication of breast implant surgery. Although prosthetic or surgical site infection (SSI) and rib osteomyelitis as separate entities are well described in the literature, only five cases of rib or sternal osteomyelitis related to implant placement have been reported globally. Historically patients who experience this complication have not demonstrated an identifiable prevalence of the traditional risk factors associated with SSI or rib osteomyelitis.

This is a contemporaneous review of the frontline treatment of epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC), specifically on the importance of optimal surgical cytoreductive surgery, the pivotal role of platinum-based adjuvant chemotherapy (which encompasses intraperitoneal and dose-dense regimens) and the emergence of neo-adjuvant chemotherapy. Additionally, the benefit of concurrent and maintenance bevacizumab in the suboptimally debullked stage III and stage IV EOC setting is also reviewed. The article also discusses the increasing importance of prognostic and predictive molecular biomarkers in the future management of EOC.
