Preeclampsia is a pregnancy-specific hypertensive syndrome recognized as the leading cause of maternal and fetal morbidity worldwide. Early diagnosis is crucial for mitigating its adverse effects, and recent investigations have identified endoglin as a potential biomarker for this purpose. Here, we present the development of a hybrid biosensor platform for the ultrasensitive detection of endoglin, aimed at enabling the early diagnosis of preeclampsia.

Broader Autism Phenotype (BAP) traits may be present in parents of children on the autism spectrum. However, the prevalence and impact of these traits on parental mental health is poorly understood. We explore BAP traits and its relationship to mental health in 228 fathers and 261 mothers from a sample of 266 scholars from the EPINED study (Spain) grouped as follows: non-autism (N = 122), autism traits (N = 93: 38 subthreshold autism and 55 autism symptoms) and autism (N = 51).

This paper presents a comprehensive dataset detailing the precise indoor positioning of players from a female amateur handball team across 10 real matches. Utilizing Ultra-Wideband (UWB) technology, the dataset captures each player's x and y coordinates every second throughout the games. Additionally, a preliminary game analysis is included, specifying the initiation and termination times of each team's possession.

Bariatric surgery is effective for the treatment and remission of obesity and type 2 diabetes, but pharmacological approaches which exert similar metabolic adaptations are needed to avoid post-surgical complications. Here we show how G49, an oxyntomodulin (OXM) analog and dual glucagon/glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor (GCGR/GLP-1R) agonist, triggers an inter-organ crosstalk between adipose tissue, pancreas, and liver which is initiated by a rapid release of free fatty acids (FFAs) by white adipose tissue (WAT) in a GCGR-dependent manner. This interactome leads to elevations in adiponectin and fibroblast growth factor 21 (FGF21), causing WAT beiging, brown adipose tissue (BAT) activation, increased energy expenditure (EE) and weight loss.

Current evidence indicates that dual antiplatelet therapy with aspirin plus a P2Y inhibitor is essential for the prevention of thrombotic events after percutaneous coronary interventions. However, dual antiplatelet therapy is associated with increased bleeding which may outweigh the benefits. This has set the foundations for customizing antiplatelet treatments to the individual patient.

The relationship between key energy metabolites and brain health is not well understood. We investigated the association between circulating ketone bodies, pyruvate, and citrate with cognitive decline, structural brain characteristics, and risk of dementia. We measured ketone bodies (acetoacetate, β-hydroxybutyrate, and acetone), pyruvate, and citrate species using NMR in plasma samples from 1,850 older adults in the Cardiovascular Health Study collected in 1989-90 or 1992-93.

Introduction: Foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) affects multiple food-animal species and spreads rapidly among ungulate populations, posing significant challenges for disease control. Understanding the dynamics of FMD transmission and evaluating the effectiveness of control measures are critical for mitigating its impact. This study introduces a multiscale compartmental stochastic model to simulate FMD spread and assess countermeasures.

Background: Fatty acid esters of hydroxy fatty acids (FAHFAs) present potential beneficial effects that could offer valuable insights into metabolic and inflammatory diseases. However, few FAHFAs have been studied, and their role is unclear.
Aims: To assess FAHFA levels in individuals with metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) associated with morbid obesity (MO) to explore the potential significance of FAHFAs under these conditions.

Scope: Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) is a global health issue with increasing prevalence. Polyphenols, such as grape seed proanthocyanidin extract (GSPE), are bioactive compounds present in plants and represent an interesting therapeutical approach for MASLD.
Methods And Results: This study questioned whether the timing of GSPE administration impacts liver diurnal metabolism and steatosis in a rat obesity model.

Background: Substance use among adolescents is a public health problem, and the simultaneous use of multiple substances aggravates this problem. Although the facilitators of specific substance use in adolescents have been widely investigated, polydrug use is a less common topic. Likewise, the role that the origin of the information available to adolescents regarding substance use plays in relation to polydrug use is practically unexplored.

The aging of the world's population due to accelerating demographic shift on all continents is causing increasing pressure worldwide, giving rise to a "crisis of care" or "care wave." The increase in longevity is resulting in an increase in chronic diseases (such as dementia), an increase in care needs to perform the activities of daily living, and situations of isolation and profound loneliness among older adults. These circumstances are opening the debate on the need to use technology, such as robots, to improve the wellbeing of older adults and their caregivers.

This paper aims to analyze equity in education policies and practices in Southern Spain that ensure cultural competence in services and the inclusion of migrant and racialized students. Our model for defining and analyzing equity in education was adapted from the Migrant Integration Policy Index (MIPEX) and includes five dimensions: (E1) equity in mission/goal, (E2) equity in access, (E3) quality/sensitivity of services, (E4) equity in participation, and (E5) development of partnerships and opportunities. Through transformative mixed methods (i.

Background: Cardiovascular disease has traditionally been studied predominantly in men, but understanding its manifestations in women is crucial for effective management. This study aims to evaluate the long-term prognosis of female patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) within a tertiary hospital setting in Spain.
Methods: Retrospective observational study based on a cohort of consecutive hospitalized patients with ACS from January 2009 to December 2014.
