A systematic review of health-related quality of life in longitudinal studies of myeloma patients.

Objectives: Multiple myeloma (MM) patients report high symptom burden and reduced health-related quality of life (HRQoL) compared to patients with other haematological malignancies. The aim of this review was to analyse published longitudinal studies including MM patients according to a change in HRQoL scores, which is perceived as beneficial to the patient according to two published guidelines.

Methods: A literature search was performed May 2016.

Rosacea is a field within dermatology with new insight within immunological research and new treatment-algorithm. Patient education on rosacea and appropriate treatments is an important aspect in helping patients succeed with therapy. Treatment should be tailored to each individual patient, taking into account: symptoms, trigger factors, patients' wishes, most bothersome symptoms, psychological aspect, individual needs.

Danish Colorectal Cancer Group Database.

Aim Of Database: The aim of the database, which has existed for registration of all patients with colorectal cancer in Denmark since 2001, is to improve the prognosis for this patient group.

Study Population: All Danish patients with newly diagnosed colorectal cancer who are either diagnosed or treated in a surgical department of a public Danish hospital.

Main Variables: The database comprises an array of surgical, radiological, oncological, and pathological variables.

Population Pharmacokinetics of Methylphenidate in Healthy Adults Emphasizing Novel and Known Effects of Several Carboxylesterase 1 (CES1) Variants.

The aim of this study was to identify demographic and genetic factors that significantly affect methylphenidate (MPH) pharmacokinetics (PK), and may help explain interindividual variability and further increase the safety of MPH. d-MPH plasma concentrations, demographic covariates, and carboxylesterase 1 (CES1) genotypes were gathered from 122 healthy adults and analyzed using nonlinear mixed effects modeling. The structural model that best described the data was a two-compartment disposition model with absorption transit compartments.

Tumor seeding following biopsy of renal cell carcinoma is extremely rare with an incidence of 1:10.000. In this paper two cases with multiple recurrent RRC metastasis in the biopsy tract following biopsy of renal tumor is presented and the current literature is shortly discussed.

SuPAR Predicts Cardiovascular Events and Mortality in Patients With Asymptomatic Aortic Stenosis.

Background: Soluble urokinase plasminogen activator receptor (suPAR) is an inflammatory marker associated with subclinical cardiovascular damage and cardiovascular events. Whether suPAR is of prognostic value in asymptomatic patients with aortic stenosis (AS) remains unknown.

Methods: Plasma suPAR levels were measured in 1503 patients with a mean age of 68 years who were recruited in the Simvastatin and Ezetimibe in Aortic Stenosis (SEAS) study.

Serum YKL-40 and gestational diabetes - an observational cohort study.

To examine serum YKL-40 in women developing gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). In the present large observational cohort study of 1179 pregnant women, we determined serum YKL-40 four times during pregnancy (at gestational age 12, 20, 25, and 32 weeks). Pregnancy outcome was obtained from medical records.

Release and Reconstruction of a Postburn Deformed Breast in a Young Woman.

Burn injuries to the anterior chest wall in the young woman may cause disfiguration or lack of development of the breasts during puberty. Often the patients are referred after puberty with an apparent lack of breast development due to firm postburn scar tissue constricting the anterior chest wall. We report a case where a young female with a postburn disfiguration and apparent diminished breast development was reconstructed successfully with incision only through the restricting burn scar, a periareolar skin excision and split-thickness skin grafting of the subsequent outburst of constricted breast tissue.

Observed change in peak oxygen consumption after aortic valve replacement and its predictors.

Objective: To assess the change in peak oxygen consumption (pVO2) and determine its outcome predictors after aortic valve replacement (AVR) for aortic stenosis (AS).

Methods: Patients with AS and preserved left ventricular ejection fraction who were referred for single AVR had cardiopulmonary exercise testing prior to and 9 months post-AVR. Predictors of outcome for pVO2 were determined by multivariate linear and logistic regression analyses.

Clinical evaluation of unselected cardiac arrest survivors in a tertiary center over a 1-year period (the LAZARUZ study).

Objectives: When the cause of an aborted cardiac arrest is unclear the initiation of therapy, counseling and family screening is challenging.

Methods: We included 43 unselected, prospectively identified cardiac arrest survivors with or without a diagnosis. Family history for cardiac disease and supplemental electrocardiograms were evaluated for additional diagnostic information.

The use of exercise interventions to overcome adverse effects of androgen deprivation therapy.

Androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) induces severe hypogonadism and is associated with several adverse effects that negatively affect health and quality of life in patients with prostate cancer. ADT changes body composition characterized by an increase in fat mass and a reduction in muscle mass and strength. Insulin sensitivity is also diminished and population-based studies indicate an increased risk of diabetes mellitus and cardiovascular disease in men receiving ADT.

A Regional Drug and Therapeutics Committee-led Intervention to Reduce the Hospital Costs of Expensive HIV Drugs.

In 2009, the regional Drug and Therapeutics Committee (DTC) began a series of meetings with lead specialists in infectious diseases. The role of the DTC was to engage clinicians and ensure commitment to prescribing the least expensive drugs among the clinically equivalent HAARTs (highly active antiretroviral therapy). DTC also led implementation of a national guideline.

Glaucoma detection with damato multifixation campimetry online.

PurposeTo evaluate Damato Multifixation Campimetry Online (DMCO), a free-of-charge internet-based visual field test. DMCO exists in three versions: DMCO BASIC, DMCO STANDARD, and DMCO ADVANCED. The main focus was (i) to investigate the sensitivity and the specificity of the existing DMCO versions in the detection of glaucomatous visual field loss and (ii) to define and evaluate algorithms for the interpretation of DMCO results.

Long Coronary Lesions Treated With Thin Strut Bioresorbable Polymer Drug Eluting Stent: Experience From Multicentre Randomized CENTURY II Study.

Objectives: To assess performance of new, bioresorbable polymer sirolimus-eluting stent (BP-SES), in patients with long coronary lesions (LL) and to compare it to permanent polymer everolimus-eluting stent (PP-EES).

Background: LL have been associated with worse clinical outcomes in percutaneous coronary interventions (PCI). The impact of lesion length on the outcomes of drug eluting stent (DES) implantations is not as clear.

Early induction of labor in high-risk intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy: what are the costs?

Purpose: Induction of labor among pregnant women with high levels of total bile acid (TBA) is common among clinicians. We examined, if women with intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy (ICP) and TBA ≥ 40 μmol/l have a higher risk of maternal-fetal complications, when labor is induced at 37 weeks of gestation, compared with induction of labor at term in women with low-risk ICP.

Methods: Retrospective cohort study of 16,185 women delivering at Roskilde University Hospital in the period 2006-2011.

Antiretroviral therapy adherence strategies used by patients of a large HIV clinic in Lesotho.

A high degree of adherence to antiretroviral therapy (ART) in patients infected with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) is necessary for long term treatment effects. This study explores the role of timing of ART intake, the information patients received from health workers, local adherence patterns, barriers to and facilitators of ART among 28 HIV-positive adults at the Senkatana HIV Clinic in Maseru, Lesotho. This qualitative, semi-structured interview study was carried out during February and March of 2011 and responses were analyzed inspired by the Grounded Theory method.

Prevalence and clinical significance of neutropenia discovered in routine complete blood cell counts: a longitudinal study.

Background: Neutropenia, defined as an absolute blood neutrophil count (ANC) <1.5 G L(-1) , may accompany a variety of diseases. However, the clinical significance of neutropenia detected in a routine complete blood cell count is poorly understood.

Short-term outcomes after complete mesocolic excision compared with 'conventional' colonic cancer surgery.

Background: Complete mesocolic excision (CME) seems to be associated with improved oncological outcomes compared with 'conventional' surgery, but there is a potential for higher morbidity.

Methods: Data for patients after elective resection at the four centres in the Capital Region of Denmark (June 2008 to December 2013) were retrieved from the Danish Colorectal Cancer Group database and medical charts. Approval from a Danish ethics committee was not required (retrospective study).

Post-bariatric abdominoplasty resulting in wound infection and dehiscence-Conservative treatment with medical grade honey: A case report and review of literature.

Introduction: Wound complications in post-bariatric patients undergoing body-contouring surgery after massive weight loss are not uncommon and often, surgical debridement or conservative management is necessary. Honey is one of the most ancient remedies for wound care and it is also considered to possess debriding effects. Current research has demonstrated promising results showing that honey can improve wound granulation and epithelialization, reduce exudate and shorten healing times.

Quantitative Electroencephalography as a Diagnostic Tool for Alzheimer's Dementia in Adults with Down Syndrome.

Background: Assessment of dementia in individuals with intellectual disability is complex due to great inter-individual variability in cognitive function prior to dementia and a lack of standardized instruments. Studies have indicated that quantitative electroencephalography (qEEG) results may be used as a diagnostic marker for dementia. The aim of this study was to examine the value of qEEG in the diagnostic evaluation of dementia in patients with Down syndrome (DS).
