Background: We aimed to investigate how self-reported physical and cognitive limitations (challenges), self-efficacy, and social support interacted with life satisfaction in adolescents and young adults with congenital heart disease (CHD) or acquired heart disease, among whom life satisfaction may be impaired.
Methods: "Adolescence with Heart Disease" was a cross-sectional, nationwide survey of patients with CHD or early acquired heart disease aged 15-25. Structural equation modeling was used to test the implied latent variable mediation model between the main outcome of interest (life satisfaction) and challenges, social support, and self-efficacy.

Background: Carbapenem-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii (CRAB) frequently causes both healthcare-associated infections and nosocomial outbreaks in burn medicine/plastic surgery and beyond. Owing to the high antibiotic resistance, infections are difficult to treat, and patient outcomes are often compromised. The environmental persistence capability of CRAB favors its transmission in hospitals.

Objective: Our aim was to evaluate possible short and long-term benefits of 3-dimensional (3-D) compared to 2-dimensional (2-D) laparoscopy for benign hysterectomy. Primary outcomes were long-term quality of life and postoperative pain. Secondary outcomes were operative time, surgical complications, time to return to work and length of hospitalization.

We report here a 46-year-old male patient with a 14 cm segmental bone defect of the radial shaft after third degree open infected fracture caused by a shrapnel injury. The patient underwent fixed-angle plate osteosynthesis and bone reconstruction of the radial shaft by a vascularized 3D-printed graft cage, including plastic coverage with a latissimus dorsi flap and an additional central vascular pedicle. Bony reconstruction of segmental defects still represents a major challenge in musculo-skeletal surgery.

Introduction: Core outcome sets (COSs) are agreed outcomes (domains (subdomains) and instruments) that should be measured as a minimum in clinical trials or practice in certain diseases or clinical fields. Worldwide, the number of COSs is increasing and there might be conceptual overlaps of domains (subdomains) and instruments within disciplines. The aim of this scoping review is to map and to classify all outcomes identified with COS projects relating to skin diseases.

Aims: In a continuously ageing population of patients with congenital heart disease (CHD), understanding the long-term risk of morbidity is crucial. The aim of this study was to compare the lifetime risks of developing comorbidities in patients with simple CHD and matched controls.
Methods And Results: Using the Danish nationwide registers spanning from 1977 to 2018, simple CHD cases were defined as isolated atrial septal defect (ASD), ventricular septal defect (VSD), pulmonary stenosis, or patent ductus arteriosus in patients surviving until at least 5 years of age.

Aims: Over the past decades, there have been improvements in the management of cardiovascular (CV) disease and risk factors. Long-term contemporary data on the population-level incidence of myocardial infarction (MI), heart failure (HF), and CV mortality in patients with peripheral artery disease (PAD) are sparse, which we aim to investigate in this study.
Methods And Results: Danish nationwide registers were used to identify all patients aged ≥18 years, with first diagnosis of PAD between 1997 and 2016.

The increases observed in incidence and survival of oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC) have been attributed to human papillomavirus (HPV) infection, but the survival-impact of specific genotypes is poorly understood. We investigated the potential influence of HPV genotypes on survival in HPV-positive (HPV+) OPSCC. All patients with HPV+/p16+ OPSCC and available genotype data within the period 2011 to 2017 in Eastern Denmark were included.

Introduction: Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive motor neuron disease with great heterogeneity. Biological prognostic markers are needed for the patients to plan future supportive treatment, palliative treatment, and end-of-life decisions. In addition, prognostic markers are greatly needed for the randomization in clinical trials.

Background: The complement system has been suggested to be involved in the pathophysiology of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), a progressive motor neuron disease. In the present study, we compared levels of selected complement markers to clinical outcome in ALS patients.
Methods: This observational, explorative cohort study included 92 ALS patients, 61 neurological controls (NCs) admitted for suspected aneurysmal subarachnoid haemorrhage, and 96 neurologically healthy controls (NHCs).

Background: This study examined whether ultra-low-dose chest computed tomography (ULD-CT) could improve detection of acute chest conditions.
Purpose: To determine (i) whether diagnostic accuracy of ULD-CT is superior to supine chest X-ray (sCXR) for acute chest conditions and (ii) the feasibility of ULD-CT in an emergency department.
Material And Methods: From 1 February to 31 July 2019, 91 non-traumatic patients from the Emergency Department were prospectively enrolled in the study if they received an sCXR.

Background: Current guidelines recommend dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT) following percutaneous coronary intervention for 6-12 months in patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) and 3-6 months in those with chronic coronary syndromes (CCS). Whether DAPT duration has a differential effect on outcomes following treatment of ischemic coronary disease with durable versus biodegradable drug-eluting stent (DES) is poorly defined.
Methods: The TARGET All Comer study was a randomized trial of patients with ischemic coronary artery disease assigned to treatment with either a biodegradable polymer DES (Firehawk) or a durable polymer DES (XIENCE).

Background: The aim of this study was to analyze learning curves and competency gains of novice vascular trainees when performing open aortic repair in a simulation-based environment.
Methods: This was a prospective study of 16 vascular trainees performing infrarenal open aortic repair on an inanimate abdominal aortic aneurysm simulator with pulsatile pressure and flow. Each participant performed 4 procedures as a primary surgeon while getting structured feedback by a supervising experienced vascular surgeon.

Background: The inflammatory biomarker soluble urokinase plasminogen activator receptor (suPAR) is associated with presence and severity of coronary artery disease (CAD) and incident death and myocardial infarction (MI). We sought to validate this finding in a further cohort of patients with suspected CAD.
Methods: Plasma suPAR was available in 1635 patients (73% with CAD) undergoing coronary angiography at a single regional Danish hospital between 2003 and 2005.

Background And Aim: Recognition of structured training in endovascular aortic repair (EVAR) for vascular trainees is increasing. Nevertheless, how trainees can achieve sufficient skills in EVAR sizing and graft selection is sparsely described. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of systematic training in basic EVAR sizing and graft selection on vascular surgery trainees using a validated assessment tool.

Background: Results of clinical trials are often criticized by low inclusion rate and potential sampling bias in patient recruitment. The aim of this validation registry is to evaluate how far an all-comers design in the context of clinical research can ensure the representation of the true all-comers population.
Methods: This validation registry is a prospective international multicentre registry, conducted at 10 out of the total 21 centers, participating in TARGET-AC (registered under NCT02520180).

Recently, the TARGET All Comers study has shown similar results of the Firehawk compared to the XIENCE stent (Abbott Vascular, Santa Clara). However, clinical outcomes in high-risk patients are unclear.
