Purpose: In 2017, the National Cancer Institute (NCI) funded the Cancer Center Cessation Initiative (C3I) to implement and expand tobacco treatment programs in routine oncology care. Many C3I programs developed specialty care programs staffed by tobacco treatment specialists (TTSs) to deliver evidence-based treatment to adult patients who smoke. People involved in specialty tobacco treatment programs can help to identify implementation strategies and adaptations that may enhance tobacco treatment reach and effectiveness in cancer care and help more patients with cancer quit using tobacco.

Objectives: Intimate partner violence (IPV) has short- and long-term health effects, including physical injuries and traumatic brain injury, as well as sexual, reproductive, and mental health issues. However, accessing necessary health care is often challenging for IPV survivors and became even more difficult during the COVID-19 pandemic. We examined access to health care among those affected by IPV during the COVID-19 pandemic to better connect survivors to health and social support services.

Background: The Costa Rica HPV Vaccine Trial provided initial evidence that 1 dose of the bivalent human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine induces stabilizing antibody levels that may provide extended protection against HPV-16/18 infections. We report antibody seropositivity and stability 11 to 16 years after vaccination.
Methods: We invited a random subset of Costa Rica HPV Vaccine Trial participants (n = 398) who had received 3 doses and all women (n = 203) who had received 1 dose at 18 to 25 years of age to follow-up visits 11, 14, and 16 years after vaccination.

One-dose prophylactic HPV vaccination of pre-adolescents may reduce cervical cancer deaths dramatically in lower-resource settings, but the benefits of achieving immediate high coverage among pre-adolescents would not be realized for 20 to 40 years. Prophylactic vaccine efficacy is reduced after sexual debut, and current therapeutic intervention candidates designed to treat existing HPV infections or precancerous lesions have yielded insufficient evidence to warrant widespread use. However, we are developing a feasible, scalable, high-quality cervical screening approach that could prevent hundreds of thousands of deaths, while we work to achieve high coverage of one-dose vaccination for adolescent cohorts.

Background: Patients with metastatic hepatoblastoma are treated with severely toxic first-line chemotherapies in combination with surgery. Yet, inadequate response of lung metastases to neo-adjuvant chemotherapy still compromises patient outcomes making new treatment strategies, tailored to more efficient lung clearance, mandatory.
Methods: We harnessed a comprehensive patient-derived xenograft platform and a variety of in vitro and in vivo assays to establish the preclinical and biological rationale for a new drug for patients with metastatic hepatoblastoma.

Objective: Patients with lupus nephritis (LN), a severe renal manifestation of systemic lupus erythematosus, should be monitored for progression of chronic kidney disease to end-stage renal disease but data on renal function testing in LN patients are limited. This real-world analysis aimed to evaluate nephrologists' use of renal function tests to support LN diagnosis and monitoring and to examine the impact of disease progression in LN patients in Europe.
Methods: Data were drawn from the Adelphi Lupus Disease Specific Programme, a cross-sectional survey of nephrologists and their next five consulting patients with LN in France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and the United Kingdom in 2021.

Reference sequences and annotations serve as the foundation for many lines of research today, from organism and sequence identification to providing a core description of the genes, transcripts and proteins found in an organism's genome. Interpretation of data including transcriptomics, proteomics, sequence variation and comparative analyses based on reference gene annotations informs our understanding of gene function and possible disease mechanisms, leading to new biomedical discoveries. The Reference Sequence (RefSeq) resource created at the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) leverages both automatic processes and expert curation to create a robust set of reference sequences of genomic, transcript and protein data spanning the tree of life.

Panel data have generated several insights about changes in kin relationships, yet few studies examine these shifts across multiple dimensions of time simultaneously. In this paper, we use data from the National Social Life, Health, and Aging Project (N=5,269) in classic lexis tables to examine age, period, and cohort differences in the kin-centricity of older adults' core discussion networks. We estimate population averages in discussion network size, range, kin composition, and kin co-residency across ages and periods.

Background: The population structure of the malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum can reveal underlying adaptive evolutionary processes. Selective pressures to maintain complex genetic backgrounds can encourage inbreeding, producing distinct parasite clusters identifiable by population structure analyses.
Methods: We analysed population structure in 3783 P falciparum genomes from 21 countries across Africa, provided by the MalariaGEN Pf7 dataset.

Background & Aims: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) risk stratification is an urgent unmet need for cost-effective HCC screening and early detection in patients with cirrhosis to improve poor HCC prognosis.
Methods: Molecular (prognostic liver secretome signature with α-fetoprotein) and clinical (aMAP [age, male sex, albumin-bilirubin, and platelets] score) variable-based scores were integrated into PAaM (prognostic liver secretome signature with α-fetoprotein plus age, male sex, albumin-bilirubin, and platelets), which was subsequently validated in 2 phase 3 biomarker validation studies: the statewide Texas HCC Consortium and nationwide HCC Early Detection Strategy prospective cohorts, following the prospective specimen collection, retrospective blinded evaluation design. The associations between baseline PAaM and incident HCC were assessed using Fine-Gray regression, with overall death and liver transplantation as competing events.

: Cripto-1 (CR1) is a plurifunctional embryonic protein required for implantation and re-expressed in the adult during wound repair, inflammation, and tumorigenesis. CR1 and its predicted CR1 pseudogene product Cripto-3/CR3 are highly homologous proteins, and given this physical attribute, commercially available antibodies cannot discriminate between CR1 and CR3. : A series of mouse monoclonal antibodies [MoAbs] were developed with a high-affinity binding that can differentiate human CR1/CR3 proteins and showed no measurable cross-reactivity.
