Patients who underwent transcatheter edge-to-edge repair (TEER) or transcatheter mitral valve replacement (TMVR) have a transeptal access created by an iatrogenic atrial septal defect (ASD) which leads to significant complications requiring closure. Given limited data, we used the National Inpatient Sample between 2015 and 2020 to evaluate the clinical outcomes of percutaneous closure of ASD (PC-ASD) in TEER/TMVR hospitalizations. A total of 44,065 eligible weighted hospitalizations with either TEER (n = 39,625, 89.

Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the incidence, predictors, and impact of lower gastrointestinal bleeding (LGIB) on inpatient mortality among colorectal cancer patients, due to its clinical significance and potential influence on patient outcomes.
Methods: We conducted a retrospective analysis of data from the National Inpatient Sample database between 2009 and 2019, including 2,598,326 colorectal cancer patients with and without LGIB. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were performed to determine predictors of LGIB and its association with inpatient outcomes.

Background And Aim: Cold snare polypectomy (CSP) has become increasingly utilized to resect colorectal polyps, given its efficacy and safety. This study aims to compare CSP and hot snare polypectomy (HSP) for resecting small (< 10 mm) and large (10-20 mm) colorectal lesions.
Methods: Relevant publications were obtained from Cochrane Library, Embase, Google Scholar, PubMed, and Web of Science databases.

The eyes and kidneys are the targets for end-organ damage in multiple pathologies. Both these organs develop during the same embryonic stage around the fourth to sixth week of gestation, thus sharing a strong correlation between both eye and kidney diseases. Both the eyes and kidneys can be the target of the systemic disease process; however, the eyes can also be affected as a consequence of renal disease or its treatment.

Background: Transcatheter aortic valve intervention (TAVI) can lead to the embolization of debris. Capturing the debris by cerebral embolic protection (CEP) devices may reduce the risk of stroke. New evidence has allowed us to examine the effects of CEP in patients undergoing TAVI.

Background: Chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) is the most common leukemia among adults, and its incidence is higher in elderly individuals. This study aims to examine the burden of CLL in the United States (US) by exploring the incidence-based rates (IBR) and incidence-based mortality (IBMR) across four decades.
Research Design And Methods: CLL incidence data were obtained from the SEER-8 registry, covering 8.

Herpes zoster (HZ) results from the reactivation of dormant varicella zoster virus (VZV) in the posterior dorsal root ganglia manifesting as painful vesicles along the dermatomal distribution as shingles. The risk of reactivation is higher in immunocompromised patients. Herpes zoster lesions can have varied presentations including bullous forms, may induce BP flare, may co-exist in the same lesions, and should be included in the list of differentials for BP flares not responding to the standard of care.

The term COVAN (COVID-19-associated nephropathy) has been used to describe collapsing focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) in individuals who have been infected with the SARS-CoV-2. This helps differentiate it from the majority of cases of acute kidney injury in COVID-19 patients, which are typically caused by acute tubular injury. The exact pathophysiology is unclear but is proposed to involve pro-inflammatory cytokines such as type 1 interferons, which are thought to increase expression of the gene in glomerular epithelial cells.

Background: Chronic pancreatitis is a debilitating condition that can affect women of childbearing age, and its impact on maternal and perinatal outcomes is poorly understood.
Aims: Our findings aim to help healthcare providers counsel pregnant women with chronic pancreatitis and make informed clinical decisions.
Methods: In this study, hospital discharge records from the National Inpatient Sample database between 2009 and 2019 were retrospectively analyzed to investigate maternal primary outcomes and primary perinatal outcomes.

Introduction: We aimed to conduct a systematic review and meta-analysis to assess the impact of chronic opioid exposure on esophageal motility in patients undergoing manometric evaluation.
Methods: Multiple databases were searched through October 2022 for original studies comparing the manometric results of patients who have used chronic opioids (for >90 days) with those who do not. The primary outcomes were esophageal dysmotility disorders.

Background: Atrial fibrillation (AF) is prevalent, especially in patients with heart failure. Their prevalence increases with age and both conditions are interrelated. Electrocardioversion (ECV) is considered a safe and effective procedure and is among one of the recommended therapies to terminate AF back to normal sinus rhythm.

Bacterial lipoproteins are structurally divided into two groups, based on their lipid moieties: diacylated (present in Gram-positive bacteria) and triacylated (present in some Gram-positive and most Gram-negative bacteria). Diacylated and triacylated lipid moieties differ by a single amide-linked fatty acid chain. Lipoproteins induce host innate immune responses by the mammalian Toll-like receptor 2 (TLR2).

Purpose: Data on survival outcomes in patients with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) originating from Nepal are limited. We aim to present the real-world data on treatment outcomes of patients with de novo ALL treated with pediatric ALL-Berlin-Frankfurt-Muenster (BFM)-95 protocol in Nepal.
Patients And Methods: We used the medical records of 103 consecutive patients with ALL treated in our center from 2013 to 2016 to evaluate the overall survival (OS) and relapse-free survival (RFS) and analyzed the effects of clinicopathologic factors on survival outcomes in patients with ALL.

Background: Proton-pump inhibitors (PPIs) are the mainstay of treatment in erosive esophagitis (EE). An alternative to PPIs in EE is Vonoprazan, a potassium competitive acid blocker. We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) comparing vonoprazan to lansoprazole.

Benign metastasizing leiomyoma (BML) is a rare finding of histologically benign smooth muscle tumors in extrauterine locations, most commonly the lungs. We report a case of BML found incidentally on pre-operative imaging in a 42-year-old patient. BML is found in premenopausal women with a history of leiomyoma and, often, hysterectomy.

There is a paucity of data about the sex differences in acute coronary syndrome (ACS) outcomes in patients with prior mediastinal radiation. The National Inpatient Sample database from years 2009 to 2020 were queried for ACS hospitalizations of patients with prior mediastinal radiation. The primary outcome was MACCE (major cardiovascular events), and secondary outcomes included other clinical outcomes.
