Background: The development of more potent selective oestrogen receptor antagonists and degraders (SERDs) that can be orally administered could help to address the limitations of current endocrine therapies. We report the primary and final analyses of the coopERA Breast Cancer study, designed to test whether giredestrant, a highly potent, non-steroidal, oral SERD, would show a stronger anti-proliferative effect than anastrozole after 2 weeks for oestrogen receptor-positive, HER2-negative, untreated early breast cancer.

Methods: In this open-label, randomised, controlled, phase 2 study, postmenopausal women were eligible if they were aged 18 years or older; had clinical T stage (cT)1c to cT4a-c (≥1·5 cm within cT1c) oestrogen receptor-positive, HER2-negative, untreated early breast cancer; an Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group performance status of 0-1; and baseline Ki67 score of at least 5%.

Serum Cytokines as Biomarkers in Heart Failure with Preserved Ejection Fraction and Sleep Apnea: A Prospective Cohort Study.

Life (Basel)

February 2023

Laboratory of Clinical Immunopharmacology, Federal State Budgetary Scientific Institution, Research Institute of Fundamental and Clinical Immunology, 6 Zalesskogo Str., 630099 Novosibirsk, Russia.

Heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) and obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) frequently co-occur and this comorbidity represents a separate phenotype of HFpEF. While many research attempts are focused on biomarkers of HFpEF, currently, there is a lack of validated biomarkers of HFpEF and OSA. In this study, we aimed to evaluate prognostic significance of several serum cytokines in patients with HFpEF and OSA.

Laboratory of Molecular Genetic Research of Human Health and Development, Scientific and Educational Center "Biomedical Technologies", Higher Medical and Biological School, South Ural State University, 76, Lenin Prospect, 454080, Chelyabinsk, Russia. Electronic address:

In the present study we measured the concentrations of cortisol, thyroid hormones, testosterone, and GABA (gamma aminobutyric acid) in am blood plasma samples of combatants with an at least 10 year history of military psychological trauma (N = 74) divided in groups that either suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) (N = 37) or are resistant (N = 37) as well as in a control group without traumatic experience in the anamnesis, (N = 34). PTSD symptoms were assessed using the Clinician-Administered PTSD Scale (CAPS). The results show that the am blood cortisol levels of individuals that were exposed to war zone experiences irrespective susceptibility for or resistance to PTSD were significantly higher than the values observed in the controls.

The lack of specific symptoms for the early detection of gastric cancer leads to the fact that it is often diagnosed at a late stage, when the prognosis is unfavorable. The analysis of molecular markers in addition to standard diagnostic procedures is a promising approach for improving the preoperative diagnosis of both gastric cancer and precancerous changes in the mucosa. Therefore, the aim of our study was to analyze the diagnostic significance of using miRNA expression to diagnosis gastric cancer and precancerous conditions (dysplasia) in histological material.

Article Synopsis
  • The article analyzes how changes in blood composition, immune status, and hormonal imbalance relate to different stages of colon adenocarcinoma in patients.
  • Conducted on 60 patients who underwent right-side hemicolectomy, the study found that high levels of cortisol and somatotropic hormone were linked to immune deficiencies and the development of metastases.
  • The findings suggest that monitoring blood levels of certain hormones and immune cells could help diagnose the progression from local to locally advanced adenocarcinoma, especially in cases with non-manifesting metastases.
