Fanconi anemia (FA) is a rare genetic disorder characterized by bone marrow failure and aplastic anemia. So far, 23 genes are involved in this pathology, and their mutations lead to a defect in DNA repair. In recent years, it has been observed that FA cells also display mitochondrial metabolism defects, causing an accumulation of intracellular lipids and oxidative damage.

Templating plays a key role in surgery that is often underestimated. There is a difference between planning and templating: in the first not only the hip is considered but involves the evaluation of the patient in its entirety. Templating instead consists of calculating the position of the implant in order to place it in the best possible position.

Lamin A is a main constituent of the nuclear lamina and contributes to nuclear shaping, mechano-signaling transduction and gene regulation, thus affecting major cellular processes such as cell cycle progression and entry into senescence, cellular differentiation and stress response. The role of lamin A in stress response is particularly intriguing, yet not fully elucidated, and involves prelamin A post-translational processing. Here, we propose prelamin A as the tool that allows lamin A plasticity during oxidative stress response and permits timely 53BP1 recruitment to DNA damage foci.

The propose of this paper was to review the actual knowledge on the operative techniques, paying particular attention to the evolution of interposition arthroplasties, as an alternative to arthrodesis and prosthesis in the advanced stages of the disease.
Methods: A comprehensive literature PubMed search was performed, and the actual literature regarding hallux rigidus was overviewed.

Regarding osseous tumors of the spine, characteristic morphology is encountered in hemangioma of the vertebral body, osteoid osteoma (OO), osteochondroma, Paget's disease, and bone islands. In these cases, radiologic imaging can make a specific diagnosis and thereby avoid biopsy, especially when the radiologist has chosen the correct imaging modality to establish the diagnosis, such as thin-slice computed tomography in suspected OO. A benign lesion is suggested by a high amount of fat within the lesion, the lack of uptake of the contrast agent, and a homogeneous aspect without solid parts in a cystic tumor.

The facial and submental regions are supplied by complicated neurovascular networks; therefore, facial aesthetic injections may be associated with serious adverse events such as skin necrosis and blindness. Pre-injection localization of neurovascular structures using high-resolution ultrasound can theoretically prevent unexpected complications. Therefore, a systematic protocol that focuses on these facial neurovascular structures is warranted.

Background: In clinical practice, ultrasound assessment of the skin and superficial tissues is progressively becoming a valuable diagnostic tool to support physical examination in the outpatient setting.
Objectives: The aim of this study was to define a standardized sonographic approach to (layer-by-layer) accurately evaluate multiple histological layers of the skin and superficial tissues.
Methods: Using high-frequency ultrasound probes and high-level ultrasound machines, we matched the histological microarchitecture of superficial tissues with multiple sonographic patterns in physiological and pathological conditions.

Medial knee pain is commonplace in clinical practice and ultrasound assessment of the tibial collateral ligament-medial meniscus complex is increasingly becoming a valuable examination tool in the outpatient setting. In the pertinent literature, basic sonographic protocols have been proposed to evaluate the medial compartment of the knee joint. Using high-frequency ultrasound probes and high-level ultrasound machines; we matched the histo-anatomical features of the tibial collateral ligament-medial meniscus complex and its different sonographic patterns in physiological/pathological conditions to define a standardized (layer-by-layer) sonographic approach.

Radiofrequency (RF) is a minimally invasive procedure used to interrupt or alter nociceptive pathways for treating musculoskeletal pain. It seems a useful tool to relieve chronic pain syndromes, even if, to date, solid evidence is still needed about the effectiveness of this therapy. By this systematic review and meta-analysis, we aimed to evaluate the efficacy of RF in treating musculoskeletal pain.

The last two decades have seen a significant increase in the number of spine surgical procedures performed worldwide. This type of surgery includes a wide variety of procedures, from mini-invasive discectomies to multilevel spinal arthrodesis and osteotomies. Moreover, different surgical approaches are described at different spine levels: the anesthesiologist should be aware of the potential benefits and risks for the patients and be prepared for their management.

Purpose: The dorsal component of the scapholunate ligament, is the strongest component, in fact it has a maximum tensile strength of 300 N and mainly controls flexion and extension. In a recent study, the thickness and length of the dorsal component of SLIL was measured using ultrasound image, the length of the dorsal scapholunate ligament was 7.5 mm ± 1.

Background: Neuropathies are commonplace in clinical practice and ultrasound assessment of the peripheral nerves is increasingly becoming a valuable diagnostic tool to support the physical and electrophysiological examinations. In the pertinent literature, several sonographic approaches have been proposed to evaluate the peripheral nerve tissue-mainly based on (semi)-quantitative measures.
Objective: To define a standardized sonographic approach aiming to evaluate the different sono-histological sections of the peripheral nerve also in a qualitative way.

Background: Surf practice contributes to overuse injuries and musculoskeletal pain. Relationship between the type of surfing practiced and the onset of pain is not fully understood as well as the potential role of rehabilitation in preventing it.
Objective: To investigate musculoskeletal pain and to deepen whether the age and the anatomical region involved influenced the pain appearance in relation to four surfing disciplines.

Purpose: Patients affected by moderate to severe hallux rigidus may opt for interposition arthroplasty to avoid the movement restrictions of arthrodesis and the complications related to prosthetic replacement. The propose of this article was to review the current literature about interposition arthroplasty to examine the overall outcomes and to evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of different types of technique, compared with more consolidated procedures.
Methods: A literature PubMed search was performed.

The treatment of trapeziometacarpal (TM) osteoarthritis is still debated, as many surgical options are available, and no technique has proven to be superior. Prosthetic treatment in this context has been described since the early 60s. Recently, the use of pyrolytic carbon-based prosthesis has revolutionized arthroplasty surgery in the hand.

The increasingly cost of health care is a relevant problem as well as prolonged waiting time for admission also in emergencies. Effective cost containment measures and expenditure controls are needed to achieve and maintain clinical and organizational appropriateness. Outpatient management has proven to be the most useful method for lower-cost treatment in less severe pathologies, requiring surgery without hospitalization.

Three-dimensional (3D)-printed titanium cups used in primary total hip arthroplasty (THA) were developed to combine the benefits of a low elastic modulus with a highly porous surface. The aim was to improve local vascularization and bony ingrowth, and at the same time to reduce periprosthetic stress shielding. Additive manufacturing, starting with a titanium alloy powder, allows serial production of devices with large interconnected pores (trabecular titanium), overcoming the drawbacks of tantalum and conventional manufacturing techniques.

The severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus SARS-CoV2 is spreading over millions of people worldwide, leading to thousands of deaths, even among the healthcare providers. Italy has registered the deaths of 337 physicians and more than 200 nurses as of March 14, 2021. Anesthesiologists are at higher risk as they are the care providers in both ICU and operating rooms.
