Background: Osteochondritis dissecans (OCD) is a common cartilage disorder that specifically affects the knees of skeletally immature and young adult patients. There have been a few treatments that have been proposed: fixation of the fragment, drilling, microfractures. The aim of this study was to analyze retrospectively clinical and imaging results obtained by treating it with one-step bone marrow-derived cells Transplantation (BMDCT) technique.

Introduction: Covid-19 infection poses a serious challenge for immune-compromised patients with inflammatory autoimmune systemic diseases. We investigated the clinical-epidemiological findings of 1641 autoimmune systemic disease Italian patients during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Method: This observational multicenter study included 1641 unselected patients with autoimmune systemic diseases from three Italian geographical areas with different prevalence of Covid-19 [high in north (Emilia Romagna), medium in central (Tuscany), and low in south (Calabria)] by means of telephone 6-week survey.

Bone tissue engineering approaches are encouraging for the improvement of conventional bone grafting technique drawbacks. Thanks to their self-renewal and multi-lineage differentiation ability, stem cells are one of the major actors in tissue engineering approaches, and among these adult mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) hold a great promise for regenerative medicine strategies. Bone marrow MSCs (BM-MSCs) are the first- identified and well-recognized stem cell population used in bone tissue engineering.

Staphylococcus aureus and Staphylococcus epidermidis are the leading etiologic agents of implant-related infections. Biofilm formation is the main pathogenetic mechanism leading to the chronicity and irreducibility of infections. The extracellular polymeric substances of staphylococcal biofilms are the polysaccharide intercellular adhesin (PIA), extracellular-DNA, proteins, and amyloid fibrils.

Despite several efforts to find suitable alternatives to autologous bone, no bone substitute currently available provides the same characteristics and properties. Nevertheless, among the wide range of materials proposed as bone substitutes, calcium phosphate materials represent the most promising category and the present study is aimed at improving the knowledge on non-stoichiometric magnesium-doped hydroxyapatite substitutes (Mg-HA), tested in two different formulations: Mg-HA Putty and Mg-HA Granules. These bone substitutes were implanted bilaterally into iliac crest bone defects in healthy sheep and comparative histological, histomorphometric, microhardness and ultrastructural assessments were performed 9, 12, 18 and 24 months after surgery to elucidate bone tissue apposition, mineralization and material degradation in vivo.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate whether low-power laser biostimulation of the osteo-chondral lesions of the knee could by itself reduce repair healing time. Surgery was performed on eighteen rabbits; a bilateral osteo-chondral lesion of 2.5mm in diameter and 2mm depth was created in the femoral medial condyle with a drill.

The aim of this study was to verify the effects of laser therapy performed with Ga-Al-As Diode Lasers (780 nm, 2500 mW) on human cartilage cells in vitro. The cartilage sample used for the biostimulation treatment was taken from the right knee of a 19-year-old patient. After the chondrocytes were isolated and suspended for cultivation, the cultures were incubated for 10 days.
