Article Synopsis
  • Dihydrofolate reductase (DHFR) is an important enzyme linked to folate metabolism, making it a key target for cancer and antimicrobial treatments.
  • Researchers synthesized a series of 4-pyrrolidine-based thiosemicarbazones and tested their ability to inhibit DHFR, finding that these compounds showed significant inhibitory effects with IC values ranging from 12.37 to 54.10 μM, with compound 5d being the most effective.
  • The study included molecular docking and ADME analysis to explore how these compounds bind to DHFR and to identify those with desirable properties for the development of new therapeutic agents.

Amorphous solid dispersion (ASD) has emerged to be an outstanding strategy among multiple options available for improving solubility and consequently biological activity. Interestingly several binary SD systems continue to exhibit insufficient solubility over time. Therefore, the goal of current research was to design ternary amorphous solid dispersions (ASDs) of hydrophobic model drug curcumin (CUR) to enhance the solubility and dissolution rate in turn, presenting enhanced anti-bacterial, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity.

is a pathogenic bacterial species belonging to the family and it is mainly considered the etiological agent of chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases associated with cystic fibrosis, due to being intrinsic antibiotic resistant making it difficult to treat pulmonary infections. Hence increased rate of antibiotic-resistant bacterial species vaccine development is the priority to tackle this problem. In research work, we designed a multi-epitope-based vaccine construct against using reverse vaccinology immunoinformatics and biophysical approaches.

Sesamol is a lignan of sesame seeds and a natural phenolic molecule that has emerged as a useful medical agent. Sesamol is a non-toxic phytoconstituent, which exerts certain valuable effects in the management of cancer, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, neurodegenerative diseases (NDs), etc. Sesamol is known to depict its neuroprotective role by various mechanisms, such as metabolic regulators, action on oxidative stress, neuroinflammation, etc.

Hypoxia-inducible factor (HIF) prolyl hydroxylase domain (PHD) enzymes are major therapeutic targets of anemia and ischemic/hypoxia diseases. To overcome safety issues, liver failure, and problems associated with on-/off-targets, natural products due to their novel and unique structures offer promising alternatives as drug targets. In the current study, the Marine Natural Products, North African, South African, East African, and North-East African chemical space was explored for HIF-PHD inhibitors discovery through molecular search, and the final hits were validated using molecular simulation and free energy calculation approaches.

The growing prevalence of antibiotic-resistant strains mandates selective susceptibility testing and epidemiological investigations. It also draws attention to an efficient typing strategy. Whole genome sequencing helps in genetic comparison, strain differentiation, and typing; however, it is not that cost-effective.

Department of Health and Biological Sciences, Abasyn University, Peshawar 25000, Pakistan.

Antibiotic resistance is a global public health threat and is associated with high mortality due to antibiotics' inability to treat bacterial infections. is an emerging antibiotic-resistant bacterial pathogen from the Enterobacter genus and has the ability to acquire resistance to multiple antibiotic classes. Currently, there is no effective vaccine against Enterobacter species.

Elevated serum cholesterol is a major risk factor for coronary heart diseases. Some strains with cholesterol-lowering potential have been isolated from artisanal food products. The purpose of this study was to isolate probiotic strains from traditional yoghurt (dahi) and yogurt milk (lassi) and investigate the impact of these strains on the blood lipid profile and anti-obesity effect in a high cholesterol high fat diet model in Wistar rats.

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a metabolic disorder and a significant health problem all over the world. The current study elucidates the inhibitory potentials of the benzothiazine-pyrazole hybrid series against the α-Glucosidase enzyme. The molecular docking was employed to determine the binding affinity of synthetic compounds (ligands) with α-Glucosidase enzyme (receptor) active sites via the molecular operating environment (MOE).
