Background: Data on Absorb bioresorbable vascular scaffold (BVS) use in patients presenting with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) are limited. Furthermore, Absorb studies including STEMI patients lacked a prespecified implantation technique to optimize BVS deployment. This study examines the 5-year outcomes of BVS in STEMI patients using an optimized implantation strategy and the impact of prolonged dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT).

One of the aims of diagnostic nerve blocks is to identify the overactive muscles that lead to a specific spasticity pattern. However, to date, there is no evidence on how nerve blocks may affect botulinum neurotoxin-A (BoNT-A) dose in patients with spasticity. This case-control study aims to assess the role of diagnostic nerve block in defining BoNT-A starting dose at first treatment.

Background: Spastic equinus (plantar flexed) foot is a common postural pattern in patients who suffer from post-stroke spasticity. To date, some clinicians use the Silfverskiöld Test in their practice to differentiate between gastrocnemius and soleus muscle overactivity in patients with spastic equinus (plantar flexed) foot. This use of the Silfverskiöld Test goes beyond its original aim, which was to distinguish isolated gastrocnemius contracture in patients with equinus deformity.

Background And Aim: Helicobacter pylori infection is one of the most common bacterial infections affecting humans, causing gastroduodenal and extraintestinal diseases. Treatment of the infection remains challenging for the clinicians, and different factors are involved in the failure of the therapeutic approach. The importance of the intensity of acid secretion inhibition remains an unclear issue.

Background: It is well known that laparoscopic liver surgery can offer advantages over open liver surgery in selected patients. However, what type of procedures can benefit most from a laparoscopic approach has been investigated poorly thus far. The aim of this study is thus to define the extent of advantages of laparoscopic over open liver surgery for lesions in the anterolateral (AL) and posterosuperior (PS) segments.

Goals: To perform a systematic review and meta-analysis of endoscopic studies to evaluate an association between diverticulosis and neoplastic lesions in the colon.
Background: Some epidemiological observations suggest an association between diverticulosis and adenoma/cancer in the colon. However, an increased risk of colon neoplastic lesions in diverticulosis subjects was found to be increased in some studies, but not in others, puzzling data interpretation.

The goal-setting process is pivotal in managing patients with disabling spasticity. This case-control study assessed the role of diagnostic nerve blocks in guiding the goal-setting process within goal-targeted treatment of spasticity with botulinum neurotoxin-A. In this case-control study, patients with disabling spasticity underwent either a goal-setting process based on the patient's needs and clinical evaluation (control group) or additional diagnostic nerve block procedures (case group).

Background: Around 40% of stroke survivor develop spasticity. Plantar flexors (PF) muscles are often affected, with severe functional impairment. The treatment of choice is botulinum toxin type A (BoNT-A) combined with adjuvant treatments.

The management of patients with diverticular disease remains challenging. The aim of this national survey was to assess how gastroenterologists and general practitioners use rifaximin to manage diverticulosis and diverticular disease. Members of the Italian Association of Hospital Gastroenterologists and Endoscopists (AIGO) and the Italian Federation of General Practitioners (FIMMG) were invited to complete a 39-item online survey concerning the use of rifaximin in five clinical settings: (1) diverticulosis; (2) reducing symptoms in symptomatic uncomplicated diverticular disease; (3) reducing the occurrence of diverticulitis in patients with symptomatic uncomplicated diverticular disease (primary prevention); (4) reducing the recurrence of diverticulitis in patients with previous attacks of diverticulitis (secondary prevention); (5) treatment of uncomplicated acute diverticulitis.

Liver transplant oncology (TO) represents an area of increasing clinical and scientific interest including a heterogeneous group of clinical-pathological settings. Immunosuppressive management after LT is a key factor relevantly impacting result. However, disease-related guidance is still lacking, and many open questions remain in the field.

Objective: The superior eyelid endoscopic transorbital approach (SETOA) provides a direct and short minimally invasive route to the anterior and middle skull base. Nevertheless, it uses a narrow corridor that limits its angles of attack. The aim of this study was to evaluate the feasibility and potential benefits of an "extended" conservative variant of the "standard" endoscopic transorbital approach-termed "open-door"-to enhance the exposure of lesions affecting the paramedian aspect of the anterior and middle cranial fossae.

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) consists of neurological development disorders that manifest before three years of age and affect social interactions, markedly restricting range of interests and activities, often associated with some degree of intellectual disability. Single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) and positron emission tomography (PET) are non-invasive imaging tools to investigate the function of the brain in vivo. SPECT and PET studies exploring rCBF and brain glucose metabolism in patients with ASD have been performed, providing important insights into the brain regions involved in ASD.

Background And Aim: Gastrointestinal (GI) bleeding or malabsorption represents the most frequent aetiologies of iron deficiency anemia (IDA). The cause of IDA remains undetermined in ~10% to 20% of patients undergoing upper and lower GI endoscopies. In this scenario, a small bowel examination with videocapsule endoscopy (VCE) is recommended.

Background And Aims: International guidelines advise improving esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD) quality in Western countries, where gastric cancer is still diagnosed in advanced stages. This nationwide study investigated some indicators for the quality of EGD performed in endoscopic centers in Italy.
Methods: Clinical, endoscopic, and procedural data of consecutive EGDs performed in one month in the participating centers were reviewed and collected in a specific database.
