Introduction: Complete demineralization of hard tissues with preservation of organic components to retain their tissue architecture and to obtain thin section for histological examination is done by a process known as "decalcification". Tooth decalcification may be achieved by subjecting the tissue to a decalcifying chemical agent and employing heat, vacuum, or electric current to enhance the procedure. Completion of decalcification is adjudged by determination of end-point.

Clinical Validation of Deep Learning for Segmentation of Multiple Dental Features in Periapical Radiographs.

Periapical radiographs are routinely used in dental practice for diagnosis and treatment planning purposes. However, they often suffer from artifacts, distortions, and superimpositions, which can lead to potential misinterpretations. Thus, an automated detection system is required to overcome these challenges.

Automatic feature segmentation in dental panoramic radiographs.

Objective: The purpose of the present study was to verify the diagnostic performance of an AI system for the automatic detection of teeth, caries, implants, restorations, and fixed prosthesis on panoramic radiography.

Methods: This is a cross-sectional study. A dataset comprising 1000 panoramic radiographs collected from 500 adult patients was analyzed by an AI system and compared with annotations provided by two oral and maxillofacial radiologists.

Background: Demonstrating keratin is crucial in diagnosing various epithelial pathologies and is typically done through histological and immunohistochemical (IHC) methods. Revolutionizing Maxillary Rehabilitation: Zygomatic Implants Addressing Severe Alveolar Atrophy.

This case report describes the care given to a 58-year-old male patient with severe upper jaw atrophy. The treatment strategy involved utilizing zygomatic implants in conjunction with endosteal implants to rehabilitate both the maxilla and mandible. Temporary prostheses were used during the healing phase, followed by the fabrication and placement of final prostheses.

Background: Patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) present with a variety of oral manifestations. Therefore, we conducted a systematic review to estimate the prevalence of oral lesions among COVID-19 patients.

Methods: An extensive literature search of several electronic bibliographic databases (PubMed, Scopus, Science Direct, Litcovid) was conducted to retrieve all articles published in the English language from January 1, 2020 to March 31, 2023 that reported the prevalence of oral manifestations among COVID-19 patients.

Analog and Digital Protocols for Functional Prosthetic Rehabilitation of Post-COVID-19 Rhino-Orbito Cerebral Mucormycosis Maxillofacial Defects: A Case Series.

The current study aims to present our clinical observations and experience gathered during the diagnosis, clinical presentation, medical/surgical treatment, and functional prosthetic rehabilitation of cases of rhino-orbital/cerebral Mucormycosis patients. Mucormycosis is an aggressive, life-threatening invasive fungal infection that occurs in people who are immune-compromised. The rise of ROCM during the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic in India suggests a more effective association between Mucormycosis and the SARS-CoV-2 delta variant.

Although there are a number of therapeutic options available, mechanical debridement continues to be the gold standard. Scaling and root planing is the gold standard therapy for periodontitis, but this research aims to examine the efficacy of tetracycline fibers and simvastatin gel as local drug delivery methods.

Immunohistochemical expression of survivin in oral epithelial dysplasia and different grades of oral squamous cell carcinoma.

Background: Survivin, a member of the inhibitor of apoptosis proteins family, is not detectable in most differentiated normal adult tissues but is expressed in a wide range of cancer tissues. Survivin expression in cancer has been associated with poor prognosis, cancer progression, and drug resistance, and the expression levels correlate with more aggressive disease and a poor clinical outcome.

Objective: To evaluate and compare the immunoexpression of survivin in the normal oral epithelium (NOE), oral epithelial dysplasia (OED), and different grades of oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC).

A Case Series of Prosthetic Rehabilitation of Post-COVID Rhinorbitocerebral Mucormycosis Ocular Defects: A Digital and Analog Experience.

Removal of a part of or the entire orbit results in facial defect, causing psychological trauma to the patient, apart from anatomic loss. This case series presents 6 clinical cases of prosthetic rehabilitation of ocular defects related to post-COVID-19 ROCM by both analog and digital workflow. The basic objective of this case series was to achieve a well retained, user-friendly, maxillofacial ocular prosthesis with esthetic accuracy.

Enamel renal syndrome: A case report with review of literature.

Amelogenesis imperfecta (AI) is a developmental, inherited disorder affecting dental enamel. Preterm and low birth weight children are prone to many serious medical problems during the neonatal period, which may affect the development of oral tissues. We report a case of AI presenting with renal disease and thereby highlighting the importance of early diagnosis of this possible association to prevent renal failure and death of the patient.

Adenoid cystic carcinoma: A case report and review of literature.

Adenoid cystic carcinoma (ADCC) is an uncommon tumor of head and neck, whose clinical patterns are characterized by slow growth, perineural invasion and distant metastasis. Cribriform, tubular and solid are the three recognized histopathological patterns which are seen in ADCC. We report a case of ADCC involving palate with an update on the current understanding of its clinical behavior, molecular biology, pathogenesis, histopathological aspect, treatment and prognosis.

Oral Health-related Quality of Life among Psychiatric In- and Outpatients Diagnosed with Different Disorders in Indore, Central India.
