Unlabelled: Oxidative stress (OS) is a relevant intermediate mechanism involved in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2D) development. To date, the interaction between OS parameters and variations in genes related to T2D has not been analyzed.
Aims: To study the genetic interaction of genes potentially related to OS levels (redox homeostasis, renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system, endoplasmic stress response, dyslipidemia, obesity and metal transport) and OS and T2D risk in a general population from Spain (the Hortega Study) in relation to the risk of suffering from T2D.

Brain connectivity networks are usually characterized in terms of properties coming from the complex network theory. Using new measures to summarize the attributes of functional connectivity networks can be an important step for their better understanding and characterization, as well as to comprehend the alterations associated with neuropsychiatric and neurodegenerative disorders. In this context, the main objective of this study was to introduce a novel methodology to evaluate network robustness, which was subsequently applied to characterize the brain activity in the Alzheimer's disease (AD) continuum.

Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a complex autoimmune disease that affects several organs and causes variable clinical symptoms. Early diagnosis is currently the most effective way to save the lives of patients with SLE. But it is very difficult to detect in the early stages of the disease.

Purpose: Recently, hyaluronic acid (HA) was proposed as a promising option for the treatment of acquired lower eyelid cicatricial ectropion. However, this effect was not confirmed by quantitative assessments. This study aimed to assess the effect of hyaluronic acid on the treatment of acquired lower eyelid cicatricial ectropion.

Background: A major limitation in the treatment of upper urinary tract urothelial carcinoma is the limited use of adjuvant therapy due to the drawbacks of current techniques for intracavitary instillation. The aim was to assess, in a large animal model, a biodegradable ureteral stent coated with silk fibroin for mitomycin release, i.e.

The globally accepted surgical strategy in glioblastomas is removing the enhancing tumor. However, the peritumoral region harbors infiltration areas responsible for future tumor recurrence. This study aimed to evaluate a predictive model that identifies areas of future recurrence using a voxel-based radiomics analysis of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) data.

Background: Complete and timely publication of clinical trials ensures that patients and the medical community are fully informed when making treatment decisions. The aim of this study is to assess the publication of phase III and IV clinical trials on multiple sclerosis (MS) drugs that have been carried out between 2010 and 2019 and to identify the factors associated with their publication in peer-reviewed journals.
Methods: An advanced search in ClinicalTrials.

Osteoarthritis frequently results in chronic pain and has a major impact on patients' quality of life. We present a case series of 20 patients with chronic hip pain who received a posterior quadratus lumborum block with the aim of improving their pain and, consequently, their quality of life. The results showed global improvement in pain and quality of life.

In vitro studies have shown that genistein inhibits the CYP240 enzyme, which is involved in the degradation of 1,25-dihydroxycholecalciferol and its precursor 25-hydroxycholecalciferol, and increases their plasma levels. However, no clinical studies have primarily assessed the synergistic effect of isoflavones on vitamin D levels. The aim of this study was to evaluate the possible additive effect of genistein supplementation on vitamin D levels, calcium metabolism and bone remodeling markers in healthy postmenopausal women during the spring-summer months.

Background: Patients increasingly search for dermatological information on YouTube; however, the successful presence of dermatologists on this platform is limited. Audience retention is essential to ensure success, as the YouTube algorithm considers it to rank videos. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study in dermatology that focuses on audience retention on YouTube.

Introduction: Dermatological information on social media is dominated by misleading and potentially harmful content from nonexperts. Literature suggests that, to address this issue, dermatologists should develop an online presence. However, the successful presence of dermatologists on social media has been criticized for focusing on cosmetic dermatology and not representing the broad spectrum of the specialty.

Acute carbon monoxide (CO) intoxication may result in delayed neurological sequelae, which can include amnesia, ataxia, aphasia, emotional lability, disorientation, dysphagia, and other manifestations. A 27-year-old man reported symptoms of aphasia with agraphia and alexia in a review after CO intoxication. The patient received outpatient speech therapy, as well as repeated sessions of hyperbaric oxygen for 15 days, interspersing speech therapy with hyperbaric oxygen therapy for two months.

Pancreatic cancer and biliary tract cancer have a poor prognosis. In recent years, the development of new diagnostic techniques has enabled the identification of the main genetic alterations involved in the development of these tumours. Multiple studies have assessed the ability to predict response to treatment of certain biomarkers, such as BRCA in pancreatic cancer, IDH1 or FGFR2 in biliary tract cancer and microsatellite instability or NTRK fusions in an agnostic tumour fashion.

The probability of carrying two pathogenic variants (PVs) in dominant cancer-predisposing genes for hereditary breast and ovarian cancer and lynch syndromes in the same patient is uncommon, except in populations where founder effects exist. Two breast cancer women that are double heterozygotes (DH) for both , one ovarian cancer case DH for and another breast and colorectal cancer who is DH for were identified in our cohort. Ages at diagnosis and severity of disease in DH resembled single-carrier features.

Automated analysis of the blood oxygen saturation (SpO) signal from nocturnal oximetry has shown usefulness to simplify the diagnosis of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), including the detection of respiratory events. However, the few preceding studies using SpO recordings have focused on the automated detection of respiratory events versus normal respiration, without making any distinction between apneas and hypopneas. In this sense, the characteristics of oxygen desaturations differ between obstructive apnea and hypopnea episodes.

Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a multidimensional disease often underdiagnosed due to the complexity and unavailability of its standard diagnostic method: the polysomnography. Among the alternative abbreviated tests searching for a compromise between simplicity and accurateness, oximetry is probably the most popular. The blood oxygen saturation (SpO) signal is characterized by a near-constant profile in healthy subjects breathing normally, while marked drops (desaturations) are linked to respiratory events.

Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a heterogeneous disease with many physiological implications. OSA is associated with a great diversity of diseases, with which it shares common and very often bidirectional pathophysiological mechanisms, leading to significantly negative implications on morbidity and mortality. In these patients, underdiagnosis of OSA is high.
