Background: In assisted reproductive technology, prediction of treatment failure remains a great challenge. The development of more sensitive assays for measuring anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) has allowed for the possibility to investigate if a lower threshold of AMH can be established predicting very limited or no response to maximal ovarian stimulation.
Methods: A prospective observational multicenter study of 107 women, < 40 years of age with regular menstrual cycle and serum AMH levels ≤ 12 pmol/L, treated with 300 IU/day of HP-hMG in a GnRH-antagonist protocol.
Background And Aims: Compiling evidence has emerged for the relevance of flow cytometric assessment as a valuable part of the diagnostic work-up of myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS). This study aimed at evaluating the implementation of a simple flow cytometric scoring system (FCSS), the Ogata score, in a routine diagnostic laboratory.
Methods: A total of 35 patient samples with a clinical suspicion of MDS were retrospectively assessed using the FCSS.

Rationale & Objective: Evidence from clinical trials to guide patient preparation for maintenance dialysis therapy is limited. Although anemia is associated with mortality and cardiovascular (CV) disease in individuals initiating maintenance dialysis therapy, it is not known if treatment of anemia before dialysis therapy initiation with erythropoiesis-stimulating agents alters outcomes.
Study Design: Post hoc analysis of a randomized controlled trial.

Full integration of oncology and palliative care relies on the specific knowledge and skills of two modes of care: the tumour-directed approach, the main focus of which is on treating the disease; and the host-directed approach, which focuses on the patient with the disease. This Commission addresses how to combine these two paradigms to achieve the best outcome of patient care. Randomised clinical trials on integration of oncology and palliative care point to health gains: improved survival and symptom control, less anxiety and depression, reduced use of futile chemotherapy at the end of life, improved family satisfaction and quality of life, and improved use of health-care resources.

Breast cancer is a highly heterogeneous disease that can be classified into multiple subtypes based on the tumor transcriptome. Most of the subtyping schemes used in clinics today are derived from analyses of microarray data from thousands of different tumors together with clinical data for the patients from which the tumors were isolated. However, RNA sequencing (RNA-Seq) is gradually replacing microarrays as the preferred transcriptomics platform, and although transcript abundances measured by the two different technologies are largely compatible, subtyping methods developed for probe-based microarray data are incompatible with RNA-Seq as input data.

Human endogenous retroviruses (HERVs) have recently caught increased attention as a potential internal trigger to sensitize tumor cells to immunotherapies. HERVs are remnants of retroviral germline infections that resulted in chromosomal integration into all the cells of the progeny. Today, HERVs constitute ∼8% of the human genome, but most elements are highly degenerated, under strict epigenetic regulation, and rarely expressed in healthy tissues.

Introduction: The objective of this study was to determine the impact of intra-abdominal residual disease size, type (carcinomatosis, tumor mass or both), and location (upper/lower abdominal/both) on overall survival in women with Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) stage IIIB-IIIC vs stage IV epithelial ovarian cancer who underwent primary debulking surgery.
Material And Methods: Altogether 2092 women diagnosed with advanced epithelial ovarian cancer undergoing primary debulking surgery in Denmark during 2005-2016 were identified in the Danish Gynecological Cancer Database. The impact of residual disease size, type, and location were evaluated using univariate and multivariate analyses.

Most studies reporting bleedings in patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) are reports from clinical trials, which may be unrepresentative of incidences in real-life. In this study, we investigated 1-year bleeding and mortality incidences in an unselected STEMI population, and compared participants with nonparticipants of a randomized all-comer clinical trial (The Third DANish Study of Optimal Acute Treatment of Patients with STEMI (DANAMI-3)). Hospital charts were read and bleedings classified according to thrombolysis in myocardial infarction (TIMI) and Bleeding Academic Research Consortium (BARC) criteria in 2,490 consecutive STEMI patients who underwent primary percutaneous coronary intervention in a single, large, and tertiary heart center.

Purpose: Increasing use of tramadol for chronic non-cancer pain is concerning since tramadol users may be at risk of developing recurrent opioid use with increasing opioid consumption and co-medication. Therefore, we investigated a complete national cohort of tramadol users.
Methods: The study population (154 042 adult individuals in Norway, who redeemed ≥ one tramadol prescription in 2012) was stratified into four groups according to their opioid use 2 years before their first tramadol prescription in 2012 and followed until 2016.

Despite numerous guidelines on the management of anaemia in surgical patients, there is no pragmatic guidance for the diagnosis and management of anaemia and iron deficiency in the postoperative period. A number of experienced researchers and clinicians took part in a two-day expert workshop and developed the following consensus statement. After presentation of our own research data and local policies and procedures, appropriate relevant literature was reviewed and discussed.

Respiratory variability of peak velocities (RVPV) in the common femoral vein measured with ultrasound can reveal venous outflow obstruction. Pulse wave (PW) Doppler is the gold standard for venous velocity estimation of the lower extremities. PW Doppler measurements are angle dependent, whereas vector flow imaging (VFI) can yield angle-independent measures.

In vitro expanded adipose-derived stromal cells (ASCs) are a useful resource for tissue regeneration. Translation of small-scale autologous cell production into a large-scale, allogeneic production process for clinical applications necessitates well-chosen raw materials and cell culture platform. We compare the use of clinical-grade human platelet lysate (hPL) and fetal bovine serum (FBS) as growth supplements for ASC expansion in the automated, closed hollow fibre quantum cell expansion system (bioreactor).

Aims: Recurrent hospitalizations are a major part of the disease burden in heart failure (HF), but conventional analyses consider only the first event. We compared the effect of sacubitril/valsartan vs. enalapril on recurrent events, incorporating all HF hospitalizations and cardiovascular (CV) deaths in PARADIGM-HF, using a variety of statistical approaches advocated for this type of analysis.
