Background: Hereditary anemias are a group of genetic diseases prevalent worldwide and pose a significant health burden on patients and societies. The clinical phenotype of hereditary anemias varies from compensated hemolysis to life-threatening anemia. They can be roughly categorized into three broad categories: hemoglobinopathies, membranopathies, and enzymopathies.

Background: Non-pharmacological interventions have the potential to enhance health-related quality of life (HRQoL) through symptom management. This systematic review aims to identify, collate, and assess randomized controlled trials investigating the effect of non-pharmacological interventions on symptoms and HRQoL within hematology.

Methods: MEDLINE/PUBMED, EMBASE, CINAHL, PSYCINFO and COCHRANE were searched up to April 2021.

Impact of para aortic lymph node removal on survival following resection for pancreatic adenocarcinoma.

Introduction: For PDAC patients undergoing resection, it remains unclear whether metastases to the paraaortic lymph nodes (PALN+) have any prognostic significance and whether metastases should lead to the operation not being carried out. Our hypothesis is that PALN + status would be associated with short overall survival (OS) compared with PALN-, but longer OS compared with patients undergoing surgical exploration only (EXP).

Methods: Patients with registered PALN removal from the nationwide Danish Pancreatic Cancer Database (DPCD) from May 1st 2011 to December 31st 2020 were assessed.

State of the art post-cardiac arrest care: evolution and future of post cardiac arrest care.

In the pre-hospital setting, bystander response with cardiopulmonary resuscitation and the use of publicly available automated external defibrillators have been associated with improved survival. Early in-hospital treatment still focuses on emergency coronary angiography for selected patients.

Prospective validation of Sophia observation withdrawal symptoms: A paediatric delirium scale in critically ill children in Denmark.

Background: Paediatric delirium (PD) is increasingly recognised as a common disorder in critically ill children with a reported prevalence ranging from 9% to 66%. We validated the PD component of the Sophia Observation withdrawal Symptoms-Paediatric Delirium (SOS-PD) scale in a Danish setting to provide increased awareness and reliable identification of this critical condition, thereby paving the way for improved pathways to targeted delirium care.

Objective: The objectives of this study were to criterion validate the PD component of the SOS-PD screening tool by comparing blinded psychiatric and nurse assessments and to estimate the prevalence of delirium in critically ill children in a Danish context.

Systematic Review of Pharmacogenetic Factors That Influence High-Dose Methotrexate Pharmacokinetics in Pediatric Malignancies.

Methotrexate (MTX) is a mainstay therapeutic agent administered at high doses for the treatment of pediatric and adult malignancies, such as acute lymphoblastic leukemia, osteosarcoma, and lymphoma. Despite the vast evidence for clinical efficacy, high-dose MTX displays significant inter-individual pharmacokinetic variability. Delayed MTX clearance can lead to prolonged, elevated exposure, causing increased risks for nephrotoxicity, mucositis, seizures, and neutropenia.

There has been a significant increase in the use of short-term percutaneous ventricular assist devices (pVADs) as acute circulatory support in cardiogenic shock and to provide haemodynamic support during interventional procedures, including high-risk percutaneous coronary interventions. Although frequently considered together, pVADs differ in their haemodynamic effects, management, indications, insertion techniques, and monitoring requirements. This consensus document summarizes the views of an expert panel by the European Association of Percutaneous Cardiovascular Interventions (EAPCI) and the Association for Acute Cardiovascular Care (ACVC) and appraises the value of short-term pVAD.

The αβδ-containing GABA receptors are involved in a number of brain diseases. Despite the potential of a δ-selective imaging agent, no PET radioligand is currently available for in vivo imaging. Here, we report the characterization of DS2OMe () as a candidate radiotracer, C-labeling, and subsequent evaluation of [C]DS2OMe in a domestic pig as a PET radioligand for visualization of the δ-containing GABA receptors.

Very intense vigilance can be necessary despite adequate prophylactic measures and certain drugs may exacerbate electrolyte derangements.

Clinical trial allocation in multinational pharmaceutical companies includes country selection and site selection. With emphasis on site selection, the overall aim of this study was to examine which factors pharmaceutical companies value most when allocating clinical trials. The specific aims were (1) to identify key decision makers during country and site selection, respectively, (2) to evaluate by which parameters subsidiaries are primarily assessed by headquarters with regard to conducting clinical trials, and (3) to evaluate which site-related qualities companies value most when selecting trial sites.

Background: International guidelines recommend planned and structured transition programmes for adolescents with chronic illness because inadequate transition may lead to poor disease control and risk of lacking outpatient follow-up.

Methods: We invited 236 adolescents (12-20 years) with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) to participate in a randomised controlled trial (RCT) transition intervention.

Association between biomarkers of endothelial injury and hypocoagulability in patients with severe sepsis: a prospective study.

Introduction: Patients with severe sepsis often present with concurrent coagulopathy, microcirculatory failure and evidence of vascular endothelial activation and damage.
