The aim of the study was to perform treatment of juniper wood to obtain wood material with a density and mechanical properties comparable to bone, thus producing a potential material for use in osteosynthesis bone implants. In the first step, partial delignification of wood sample was obtained by Kraft cooking. The second step was extraction with ethanol, ethanol-water mixture, saline, and water to prevent the release of soluble compounds and increase biocompatibility.

Background: Only 10-40% of patients with cancer in low-income and middle-income countries were able to access curative or palliative radiotherapy in 2015. We aimed to assess the current status of diagnostic imaging and radiotherapy services in the Baltic countries, eastern Europe, central Asia, and the Caucasus by collecting and analysing local data.
Methods: This Access to Radiotherapy (ART) comprehensive analysis used data from 12 countries: the three Baltic countries (Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania), two countries in eastern Europe (Moldova and Ukraine), four countries in central Asia (Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan), and three countries in the Caucasus (Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Georgia), referred to here as the ART countries.

We study a quantum cone, a novel structure composed of multiple quantum dots with gradually decreasing diameters from the base to the top. The dot distribution leads to a dispersive radiated spectrum. The blue edge of the spectrum is determined by the quantum confinement of excitons on top of the cones, while the red edge is determined by the bandgap of a semiconductor.

In this work, a composite protein and polysaccharide photo-cross-linkable hydrogel was prepared using silk fibroin methacrylate (SFMA) and hyaluronic acid methacrylate (HAMA). Although some studies have been implemented based on the lifecycle assessment of lightweight cement-based materials, very few attempts have been made pertaining to multi-criteria optimization, especially when fly ash cenospheres are used as lightweight aggregates and nano additives are incorporated as modifying admixtures. Octacalcium phosphate (OCP) has excellent bone formation ability and a good resorption rate as compared to the commercial bone substitutes [, Bio-Oss (Geistlich Pharma AG) and MBCP+ (Biomatlante)], as well as synthesized biomaterials (hydroxyapatite and tricalcium phosphate). The synthesis approach to obtain phase-pure OCP possesses a great challenge due to its complex reaction mechanism and narrow synthesis window. A measurement is presented of a ratio observable that provides a measure of the azimuthal correlations among jets with large transverse momentum . This observable is measured in multijet events over the range of - based on data collected by the CMS experiment in proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 , corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 134 . The results are compared with predictions from Monte Carlo parton-shower event generator simulations, as well as with fixed-order perturbative quantum chromodynamics (pQCD) predictions at next-to-leading-order (NLO) accuracy obtained with different parton distribution functions (PDFs) and corrected for nonperturbative and electroweak effects.
