Background: White matter hyperintensities (WMHs) are frequently observed on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in patients with cerebral amyloid angiopathy (CAA). The neuropathological substrates that underlie WMHs in CAA are unclear, and it remains largely unexplored whether the different WMH distribution patterns associated with CAA (posterior confluent and subcortical multispot) reflect alternative pathophysiological mechanisms.
Methods And Results: We performed a combined in vivo MRI-ex vivo MRI-neuropathological study in patients with definite CAA.

Background: We have previously demonstrated that electrical stimulation of the carotid sinus nerve (CSN) protects the development of periodontitis. In the current study, we evaluated whether periodontitis accelerates the onset of hypertension in spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR); and whether electrical stimulation of the CSN would delay the onset of hypertension.
Methods: Three-week old SHR were implanted with electrodes around the CSN for electrical stimulation for 13 days.

Even though respiratory dysfunctions are the primary symptom associated with SARS-CoV-2 infection, cerebrovascular events, and neurological symptoms are described in many patients. However, the connection between the neuroimmune profile and the lung's inflammatory condition during COVID-19 and its association with the neurological symptoms reported by COVID-19 patients still needs further exploration. The present study characterizes the SARS-CoV-2 infectivity profile in nervous and lung tissue samples of patients who died due to severe COVID-19, and the pro-inflammatory factors present in both nervous and lung tissue samples, via a proteomic profiling array.

Purpose The number of B-lines on lung ultrasound at hospital discharge in patients admitted with acute heart failure (AHF) is associated with poor outcomes. Assessing B-lines can be challenging to execute and replicate, depending on the clinical context. This study aims to determine whether the lung ultrasound score (LUS) at discharge predicts hospital readmission or emergency department (ED) visits in the 30 days after an AHF hospital admission.

Resistance to thyroid hormone beta (RTHβ) is a rare disease resulting from mutations in the gene, characterized by reduced T3 action in tissues with high thyroid hormone receptor β expression. Thyroid hormones regulate body composition and metabolism in general, and increased or decreased hormone levels are associated with insulin resistance. This study evaluated the presence of cardiometabolic risk factors and insulin sensitivity in patients with RTHβ.

Introduction: Lesion size index (LSI) was introduced with the use of Tacticath™ and as a surrogate of lesion quality. The metric used to achieve the predetermined values involves combined information of contact force (CF), power and radiofrequency time. Rapid atrial pacing (RAP) and high-frequency low-tidal volume ventilation (HFLTV) independently or in combination improve catheter stability and CF and quality of lesions.

Following the European Forum for Research and Education in Allergy and Airway Diseases (EUFOREA) treatment algorithm for chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) with nasal polyps (CRSwNP), patients suffering from severe uncontrolled CRSwNP are recommended to receive oral corticosteroids, (revision) sinus surgery, systemic biologicals and/or aspirin treatment after desensitization (ATAD). Given the major differences in indications, outcomes, practical considerations, risks and costs of these key pillars of treatment, there is a growing need to define criteria for each treatment option and list the clinically relevant and major considerations for them. This EUFOREA document therefore provides an expert panel overview of the expected outcomes, specific considerations and (contra)indications of the five major treatment arms of severe uncontrolled CRSwNP: oral corticosteroids, primary and revision sinus surgery, biological treatment and ATAD.

In many infectious diseases, the pathogen-induced inflammatory response could result in protective immunity that should be regulated to prevent tissue damage and death. In fact, in infection, the innate immune and the inflammatory response should be perfectly controlled to avoid significant lesions and death. Here, we investigate the role of Blimp-1 expression in T cells in resistance to infection.

Since glucose reuptake by neurons is mostly independent of insulin, it has been an intriguing question whether insulin has or not any roles in the brain. Consequently, the identification of insulin receptors in the central nervous system has fueled investigations of insulin functions in the brain. It is also already known that insulin can influence glucose reuptake by neurons, mostly during activities that have the highest energy demand.
